Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1652: Chapter 1651: I Won’t Be Entangled with Him Anymore

“You really saw Luo Haofeng yesterday.”

Mother Bai’s expression slightly changed.

She initially wasn’t certain that Bai Xiaoxiao had already met with Luo Haofeng.

What she said earlier was just to test the waters.

Given the brother-like relationship between Luo Haofeng and Mo Xiuchen, Mother Bai thought that since it was Ziyi and Momo, and Xin Xin’s birthday, Luo Haofeng would definitely be there.

Seeing Bai Xiaoxiao’s not-so-good expression, Mother Bai spoke more cautiously, “Xiaoxiao, did Luo Haofeng say anything to you?”

Bai Xiaoxiao glanced at Mother Bai, walked over to the sofa not far away, sat down, and said wearily, “Mom, there were so many people at Ranran’s house, not just me and him. If you’re not at ease, I can’t help it.”

“It’s not that Mom doesn’t trust you.”

Mother Bai also walked over and sat next to Bai Xiaoxiao.

Her well-maintained face was filled with deep worry as she looked at Bai Xiaoxiao with concern, “Xiaoxiao, Mom is just looking out for you. Putting other things aside, Luo Haofeng himself is not bad, but his mother is not a good person.”

At that point, Mother Bai paused slightly.

Bai Xiaoxiao’s hands gently intertwined, her previously downcast eyes lifted to look at Mother Bai, “Mom, I know.”

“As long as you know, I’m afraid that if you have any more dealings with Luo Haofeng, given Wu Jingfang’s malicious nature, she might do something to hurt you.”

As Mother Bai spoke, she grabbed Bai Xiaoxiao’s hand, her eyes full of distress, “Xiaoxiao, Mom doesn’t want you to be hurt in any way. Although Meng Ke isn’t as exceptional as Luo Haofeng, he’s a dependable man who will treat you well.”

“Mom, rest assured, I won’t have any unclear entanglements with Luo Haofeng again.”

Bai Xiaoxiao forced a smile.

Ignoring the bitterness in her heart, she didn’t want her mom to worry.

Seeing her assent, Mother Bai finally smiled, “Xiaoxiao, then go visit Meng Ke’s house. Although he’s away on a business trip, it won’t affect you getting close to his parents, especially his mother, who seemed to be unwell recently. Show her more care.”

“Okay, I will.”

Bai Xiaoxiao tried her best to keep her smile bright and cheerful, not to make her mother worry.

**

By the time Bai Xiaoxiao arrived at Meng Ke’s house, it was already eleven o’clock.

Li Shi Yao was waiting for her outside; today, her parents weren’t there, and she was the only one at Meng Ke’s house.

“Aunt, Sister Xiaoxiao is here.”

Li Shi Yao pulled Bai Xiaoxiao into the house and shouted to Meng’s mother, who was busy in the kitchen.

A moment later, Meng’s mother poked her head out of the kitchen, smiling warmly at Bai Xiaoxiao, “Xiaoxiao, have a seat for a while, it’s almost done. Yao Yao, chat with Xiaoxiao for a bit.”

“Aunt, thank you for your hard work.”

Faced with Meng’s mother’s enthusiasm and welcoming smile, Bai Xiaoxiao naturally couldn’t neglect her manners.

She withdrew her arm from Li Shi Yao’s hold and went into the kitchen, “Aunt, is there anything I can help with?”

“No, no, just two more dishes to go. You go to the living room and rest for a bit. Yao Yao, call your uncle to come back and have lunch.”

Meng’s mother shooed Bai Xiaoxiao out to the living room.

Just upon exiting, her phone started ringing.

“Sister Xiaoxiao, is it cousin calling you?”

Li Shi Yao looked at Bai Xiaoxiao expectantly.

Bai Xiaoxiao nodded, her slender fingers pressed the answer button, “Hello.”

“Xiaoxiao, it’s me.”

“How are things over there?”

Across the Pacific Ocean, Bai Xiaoxiao could hear Meng Ke’s voice, faintly tinged with weariness.

Li Shi Yao pointed to the sofa, signaling her to go and sit down.

While listening to Meng Ke’s reply, Bai Xiaoxiao walked over to the sofa and sat down, “Two travelers were seriously injured, and three had minor injuries. Since I got here…”

From Meng Ke’s tone, it seemed he hadn’t rested since he arrived.

Upon arrival, he first went to the hospital to visit the injured travelers and then went to the local government departments.

“Have you returned to the hotel now?”

Bai Xiaoxiao furrowed her brows slightly, asking with concern.

“Yes, I just got back to the hotel. I’m planning to eat something and then rest for a bit. I called to let you know so you wouldn’t worry.”

“I’m at your house right now, Aunt is busy in the kitchen, do you want to say a few words to her?”

Bai Xiaoxiao’s words surprised and delighted Meng Ke, “Xiaoxiao, are you saying you’re at my house now?”

It seemed like the fatigue he felt earlier vanished instantly.

Listening to his joyful voice, Bai Xiaoxiao felt a strange emotion arise in her heart.

“Yes, I just arrived. Hold on, I’ll take the phone to Aunt, so you can say a few words and not let Aunt worry.”

Bai Xiaoxiao’s face broke into a bigger smile as she stood up, holding the phone while heading to the kitchen.

“Xiaoxiao, I didn’t expect you to visit my house even when I’m not around.” Meng Ke was still a bit incredulous.

Laughing, Bai Xiaoxiao said, “Just because you’re not home, doesn’t mean I can’t come. The meals Aunt is cooking smell amazing, too bad you won’t get a taste.”

In the kitchen, Meng’s mother was busy, holding seasoning in one hand and a spatula in the other.

“Aunt, it’s Meng Ke on the phone.”

Bai Xiaoxiao handed the phone over after hearing Meng Ke on the other end calling out ‘Mom.’

Meng’s mother gave her a gentle smile, set down the seasoning spoon, and took the phone.

Whatever Meng Ke said on the phone made Meng’s mother beam at Bai Xiaoxiao before responding, “Yes, Xiaoxiao is at our house today. Handle your business over there worry-free and take care of yourself. Don’t worry about Xiaoxiao, I won’t mistreat my future daughter-in-law.”

Bai Xiaoxiao could only smile, not knowing what expression to put on.

“Xiaoxiao, you go chat with Meng Ke. I’ll finish cooking the dishes here.”

After a few words, Meng’s mother handed the phone back to Bai Xiaoxiao.

“Xiaoxiao, my mom really practiced those dishes for days. Make sure to eat a lot later. My mom always had good culinary skills, but she worked hard to ensure you’d like her dishes.”

“Who told you to say that?”

Bai Xiaoxiao jokingly chided.

She didn’t dare let her future mother-in-law cook for her.

“Rest assured, my mom isn’t the petty type. Since you’re already at my house today, take your time, chat with my mom in the afternoon. Anything you want to know about me, just ask my mom.”

Meng Ke evidently felt a lot better.

Bai Xiaoxiao couldn’t help smiling at his words, “Aren’t you afraid Aunt will only mention your flaws?”

“Not at all, I don’t want you to only see my merits and think I was hiding something on purpose after we get married.”

Meng Ke’s playful voice filled with laughter reached Bai Xiaoxiao’s ears.

She brushed the tufts of hair from her forehead, “I’m done talking, hurry and eat, then get some rest.”

“Xiaoxiao, thank you.”

The phone call went silent for a moment.

A few seconds later, Meng Ke’s voice, filled with emotion and gratitude, came through.

Bai Xiaoxiao was momentarily stunned but quickly understood his meaning, a slight smile forming again at the corner of her lips, “I’m hanging up now.”
