Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1699: Chapter 1699: Bad News

”Dad. I’m really fine, but you need to be careful of Wu Yunfeng, he’s after that.” Xu Huilin whispered.

Bai Ruozhu quickly glanced at the father and son, it seems Wu Yunfeng is after something of the Meng Family.

Not bothering to figure out what it is, she never had an interest in probing others’ secrets.

Seeing Meng Liangshen’s face change several times, Bai Ruozhu, taking the opportunity to tidy up medicinal materials, left the room to the father and son.

In the following days, Xu Huilin’s condition improved each day, proving himself to be less pessimistic than imagined. But in the absence of others, he silently dazed with a distraught expression, yet whenever someone approached, he’d immediately put away all emotions, presenting himself as a sunny and positive person.

Bai Ruozhu had felt heartache for Senior Fox and shed tears for him, but later she realized Senior Fox didn’t want to rely on others’ sympathy to live his days, nor did he want those around him constantly worried. In fact, he was much stronger than Bai Ruozhu imagined.

Understanding this, Bai Ruozhu calmed down completely, no longer dwelling on the pessimistic side, choosing instead to think of the positives, such as despite the perilous situation, Senior Fox escaped alive, still able to breathe the world’s air, enjoy various cuisines, and live with loved ones.

”Senior Fox, when we find my brother Ning Yu, let him create a mechanical arm for you. It might not be exactly like your original, but it will certainly allow you to handle things easily and freely.” Bai Ruozhu contemplated for days before deciding to voice this thought.

”Mechanical arm?” Xu Huilin’s eyes lit up, although he pretended to be nonchalant, how could he not care?

Bai Ruozhu nodded, saying, ”I once saved a girl in the Western Regions who had her leg chopped off. I designed a prosthetic limb for her but found it wasn’t particularly nimble. Coincidentally, my brother Ning Yu specializes in mechanical techniques, so I asked him to create a mechanical leg for Zhanna, though it’s not yet completed, it is definitely feasible.”

She didn’t know where Ning Yu went, but she believed Ning Yu surely lived.

”Alright, alright, then I’ll trouble your National Master.” Although Xu Huilin appeared calm, the excitement in his voice betrayed him.

Seeing Xu Huilin’s mood indeed improved, Bai Ruozhu also felt much better.

With Xu Huilin’s situation stabilized, Bai Ruozhu bid farewell to Madam Meng, needing to return home to see her relatives, planning to visit Beiyu City in a few days.

Madam Meng knew Bai Ruozhu had been delayed at the Meng Residence for quite some time, readily agreed and had someone prepare a cartload of gifts for her, which included several boxes of nourishing bird’s nest.

Just as Bai Ruozhu and her family were about to leave the Meng Residence, a message suddenly arrived from the east!

The message was delivered via pigeon messenger, revealing the current situation in the Capital City.

The faction of King Rui issued a battle declaration, using the same tactic as Prince Duan, claiming the Empress Dowager had an affair with the unspeakably skilled Yao Yuxuan before entering the Palace, and Emperor Wuning Tang Yin was not of the imperial orthodox bloodline. King Rui’s actions were merely to protect the imperial orthodox, not letting traitors succeed.

”How shameless, who would believe this?” Lin Ping’er spat in disdain.

Bai Ruozhu’s face darkened, saying, ”Mother, I’m afraid quite a few will believe it, the common people are easily swayed, especially when a rebellious Prince Duan says so, and then a rebellious King Rui says the same, it raises suspicions. The common people even prefer to believe such sensational gossip, and with some manipulation, public opinion could easily swing.”

She herself had leveraged the advantage of public opinion before, she could wield public opinion, so how could someone as cunning as King Rui not think of that?

”Could it be, that they actually succeed? The Empress Dowager is gone, yet they still vilify people.” Lin Ping’er said, choked up, having only visited the Palace a few times, but the Empress Dowager was so amiable and unpretentious, she genuinely liked the Empress Dowager.

Bai Ruozhu took a deep breath, suppressing the bitter feeling in her heart, saying, ”Once His Majesty regains control of Datong, such rumors will be dispelled on their own.”

The secret message was directly delivered to Meng Liangshen, who was discussing in the study room with his aides, thereby having his subordinates relay the content of the message to Madam Meng. Bai Ruozhu and her folks were bidding farewell to Madam Meng at that time, thus overhearing it.

But the person delivering the message seemed somewhat hesitant, casting glances at Bai Ruozhu and others, Madam Meng understood and said, ”The Bai Family are our own people, say whatever it is directly, there’s no need to be reserved.”

The messenger remained hesitant, but under Madam Meng’s stern gaze, he had no choice but to speak boldly, ”The secret message also states that King Rui has chosen the eldest miss as his consort, and once he ascends the throne, she’ll be made empress.”

”What?” Madam Meng wobbled, nearly falling to the ground, but Bai Ruozhu and Lin Ping’er quickly supported her.

”Didn’t arrangements in the Capital have people bring her back? Was she captured by King Rui? How many days has this news been on the way, how is Jinse now?” Madam Meng asked several anxious questions, but the messenger was merely an errand boy, unable to know the circumstances hundreds of miles away.

Bai Ruozhu felt a chill in her heart, King Rui was utterly insidious!

Meng Liangshen was the emperor’s trusted minister and currently the staunchest supporter backing the emperor in retreating to the Northwest, and King Rui was Tang Yin’s bitter rival, yet he deliberately chose Meng Liangshen’s legitimate daughter Meng Jinse as his consort and intended to bestow her the position of empress, how maliciously calculated!

Meng Jinse traveled thousands of miles to the Capital intending to find a good marriage, now becoming King Rui’s possession, likely the marriage might have been completed while the news traveled.

Thinking of the scene she once saw of the masked man entangled with the woman, Bai Ruozhu felt nauseous, Jinse being forced to marry such a man, truly a fate worse than death.

Madam Meng suddenly slammed her hand onto the nearby tea table, exclaiming sternly, ”A wolf’s ambition, a wolf’s ambition! Jinse is a good child, she’d rather die than marry that beast!”

Bai Ruozhu’s heart wrenched, in death, everything ends, yet she instead hoped Meng Jinse could grit her teeth and survive, as long as there’s a chance of rescue someday, she could live on with a new identity.

But as a member of the Meng Family, she is prideful, likely she wouldn’t endure and live as Bai Ruozhu imagined.

After saying this, Madam Meng suddenly rolled her eyes and fainted completely, prompting Bai Ruozhu to urgently instruct others to support her onto the bed, making her hesitant to leave, thereby discussing with her parents, deciding to stay at the Meng Residence for a few more days, at least ensuring Madam Meng is fine before leaving.

Fortunately, Madam Meng was even stronger than Bai Ruozhu imagined, upon waking, she didn’t cry or make a fuss, only stating her belief that Jinse wouldn’t bring shame upon the Meng Family.

Bai Ruozhu accompanied Madam Meng for three days, in which news arrived from outside of the emperor’s arrival.
