Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1666: Chapter 1666: Apologize with Death

No one noticed that Chu Hai had been silently standing there for a long time, and when he finally spoke, his hands were still trembling.

For the first time, he realized that apart from his mother, his sister, and Master Hao Feng, he was actually this nervous about another person, a woman at that.

He finally understood the feelings between Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun—this must be what it’s like to like someone.

He glanced at Princess Yingtong several times. She was crying without any care for her image in front of Bai Ruozhu, but he found her extremely adorable, straightforward about what she liked and disliked.

At the same time, he realized she was far more important to him than he had imagined.

”Your Majesty, I have a request for an imperial decree,” Chu Hai spoke up.

The room fell silent, and Tang Yin looked at Chu Hai, ”You are my cousin, no need for such formalities. Just speak.”

”I request an imperial decree to wed Princess Yingtong, asking for Your Majesty’s blessing for marriage!” Chu Hai blushed, mustering all his courage to speak with a tone full of firmness and sincerity.

”Chu Hai, you...” Princess Yingtong called out his name, her face also turning red.

The two of them had developed feelings in secret, but it had never been fully acknowledged. She didn’t know if Chu Hai was willing to marry her, a princess from the Western Regions, and become idle in Danliang Country.

Unexpectedly, Chu Hai had made up his mind and proposed so directly and openly, making the usually straightforward Yingtong feel shy.

Tang Yin suddenly burst out laughing, ”This matter needs to be asked of Princess Yingtong whether she is willing or not. If she is to marry into our Danliang, we ought to respect her wishes, right?”

Bai Ruozhu winked at Jiang Yichun, as everyone could see that Yingtong was willing, yet the emperor still deliberately asked, which was simply too mischievous.

”Indeed, what does Princess Yingtong mean by this?” The empress dowager echoed.

Yingtong, blushing but straightforwardly answered, ”I am willing.”

Chu Hai broke into a smile and said to Yingtong, ”I will take good care of you.”

Tang Yin stifled his laughter with a light cough and said, ”I approve of this matter, and will issue the decree for marriage tomorrow!”

The two of them bowed in unison, ”Thank you, Your Majesty!”

At that moment, an envoy announced from outside, saying that the young master Ao from the Western Regions requested an audience. Tang Yin granted it, and Ao Qi rushed in with a face full of urgency.

”It’s good that you’re all right. I went to check on some goods and such a major event occurred. It’s indeed my late arrival,” he said apologetically.

Bai Ruozhu smiled with pursed lips, ”Ao Qi, there’s no need to be nervous. Princess Yingtong already has a guardian, your task is complete.”

Ao Qi immediately glanced at Chu Hai, clearly seeing that everyone had noticed the affection between Yingtong and Chu Hai.

Yingtong also candidly said, ”Chu Hai has already requested an imperial decree for marriage from the emperor.”

Ao Qi immediately made a bow to the two, ”Congratulations indeed, so this is turning misfortune into a blessing? We must go out and have a feast to celebrate!”

Everyone laughed along, and after bidding farewell to the emperor and empress dowager, they left Yangxin Hall. Ao Qi again suggested a celebration, but Diao Yao dared not leave the palace, fearing disturbing the empress dowager at Cining Palace. Additionally, Bai Ruozhu needed to rest due to her injuries, so everyone decided to disperse, planning to reunite in a couple of days.

In the horse carriage back, Bai Ruozhu awkwardly smiled and said, ”Don’t hold me after a while, and don’t let my parents know I’m injured, or they won’t sleep well.”

Jiang Yichun glanced at her coldly and said, ”Aren’t you afraid I’ll be the one who can’t sleep well?”

In this matter, Bai Ruozhu was indeed at fault. She lowered her head and said, ”Don’t I still have somewhere to hide? You know how perverted Saihan is. Can I just watch Diao Yao and the others get into trouble?”

”Did you hide? I didn’t see anyone else in trouble, just you pitifully lying on the ground,” Jiang Yichun said with a cold snort.

Bai Ruozhu awkwardly touched her nose, imagining how embarrassing her posture must have been at that time.

”If I had hidden in there, they would have been doomed. I couldn’t take them in there. You know they’re my friends. If your friends were in trouble, wouldn’t you risk your life to save them? Like Senior Fox?” Bai Ruozhu said with a wink.

Jiang Yichun coldly replied, ”I wouldn’t save him. If he’s in danger, it’s his own lack of ability.”

Bai Ruozhu pouted, ”Cold-blooded.”

”If I risked my life to save him, who would be responsible for you and the child?” Jiang Yichun kept a stern face, and although it seemed like he was sulking, there was great certainty in his voice.

Bai Ruozhu was momentarily stunned. She thought of a story she had read before of a man revered as a hero, willing to sacrifice for his country and friends, but his son never respected him, and his wife led a sorrowful life.

Back then, she thought of such a man as a good man, but not a good husband or father. Why was she now questioning her own man with similar issues?

It took her a while to recover, lowering her eyes as she said, ”I know it’s dangerous, and I won’t do it again.”

She was both a wife and a mother and should be a good wife and mother.

People can’t be completely selfless; many things require trade-offs. This doesn’t mean she wouldn’t save friends in similar situations again, but she wouldn’t take risks lightly. She would be more cautious and careful, not for herself, but for Achun, her family, and Dengdeng; she couldn’t afford anything to happen.

Quickly, the horse carriage arrived at the Bai Residence Gate. Jiang Yichun still carried her off the carriage but set her down at the gate, gently holding her hand as they entered.

Seeing that he had taken it in, she pursed her lips and chuckled to herself.

Returning to the Main Courtyard to meet their parents and pay respects, they returned to their own Yard. Little Dengdeng immediately pounced when he saw his father and mother, but Jiang Yichun quickly stepped forward to block his son, picking him up in his arms.

”I want mom to hold me,” Dengdeng complained.

Jiang Yichun rubbed his stubbly chin against his son’s little face. The little stubble on his chin always tickled his son, making him giggle.

”Today it’s dad’s turn to hold you. Don’t you like dad?” Jiang Yichun said with a stern face, pretending to be angry.

Dengdeng laughed and dodged while saying, ”Dengdeng likes dad and also likes mom, both together.”

Bai Ruozhu laughed heartily, ”Little flatterer!”

This son of hers was really a little ghost in a child’s body. Whenever asked if he liked dad or mom better, he would certainly say he liked both together. Bai Ruozhu taught him to say ”both,” but he insisted on saying ”two” to be happy, and would even count to three with his fingers.

”Go rest in the room, I’ll take care of the child,” Jiang Yichun said sternly.

Bai Ruozhu stuck out her tongue and helplessly went to lie down in the room. She was exhausted and too tense today, and as soon as her body hit the bed, she soon fell asleep.

When she woke up, it was already late at night. The yard was quiet, as if everyone had gone to bed.

”I failed my duty and can only beg to apologize with my death!” Jianqi’s voice was very soft, but it drifted into Bai Ruozhu’s ears from outside.
