Chapter 1660: Chapter 1660: The Tricks with the Medicine Bottle

”Your Majesty, I have brought Mr. Yao and the revered Doctor Sage to examine this porcelain bottle. I’ve also invited Master Fan from the Capital Office and Master Li from the Ministry of Rites to bear witness,” Jiang Yichun said after paying his respects upon entering the hall.

Bai Ruozhu watched the scene before her in surprise, almost blurting out, ”Achun, well done!”

In contrast, the Grand Princess did not look pleased.

”What does this mean? Has Minister Jiang now become omnipotent, mobilizing both the Doctor Sage and Mr. Yao?” The Grand Princess’s words were tinged with sarcasm.

The Doctor Sage, who looked very kindly and was quite approachable, chuckled softly, ”I just happened to be back in the Capital, so I came to help take a look. I deeply admire young friend Bai’s medical skills and ethics. How could someone with such virtues commit such acts?”

Bai Ruozhu felt her face heat up. She had indeed done something similar before, making her uncle show his true colors, though she thought deeper, it was simply letting her uncle drunkenly speak the truth, without using poison, hardly a villainous act.

Yao Yuxuan, with a carefree demeanor, said, ”I merely dislike seeing good people wronged.”

The Grand Princess gritted her teeth, making a grinding sound, and said loudly, ”She is jealous because Lord Zheng presented Jiang Yichun with two beautiful dancing girls. She sent them to the reception to perform, and after Jiang Yichun saw the performance, he took pity on them and privately kept them. Her jealousy towards Lord Zheng stemmed from this! As for the fire I set at the Xianle Residence, how could a mere spark set a whole street ablaze? And then she rushed to save people, wasn’t that just to keep a close eye to destroy evidence?”

”Grand Princess, your imagination is indeed impressive, but you must speak with evidence. You accuse me of these crimes, but where is the proof? Just that medicine bottle?” Bai Ruozhu inquired.

Master Li appropriately ordered his subordinates to present the evidence, and the small medicine bottle was revealed to everyone.

”Your Majesty, I have had this bottle examined. It is not made of fireproof material but it could survive a fire if buried underground, where fierce flames couldn’t reach,” Master Li stated.

”She harmed people, so naturally, she buried the evidence,” the Grand Princess argued.

Tang Yin frowned at her; her interruptions only made her seem less confident.

Yao Yuxuan stepped forward and said, ”Let me take a look.”

Master Li handed the medicine bottle to Yao Yuxuan, who opened it, glanced at Bai Ruozhu, and remarked, ”Ruozhu girl, you’re so wealthy, yet you wouldn’t use jade bottles for medicine, how stingy!”

Bai Ruozhu stifled a laugh, saying, ”Where am I stingy? I have long used jade bottles. I only used porcelain bottles back in the days at Beiyu City when I had no money.”

Yao Yuxuan brought the medicine bottle to his nose and sniffed, saying, ”Hmm, this is high-concentration liquor, how could anyone consume this?”

”I probably used it to disinfect and clean wounds for patients,” Bai Ruozhu replied.

”Not only that, but there used to be Qi blood replenishing pills in here. We doctors are never this careless; even if a bottle is reused, it should be thoroughly cleaned and aired out to remove odors to avoid affecting the medication,” Yao Yuxuan added.

The Doctor Sage nodded in agreement, ”Mr. Yao is right. Indeed, before the high-concentration liquor was stored in it, there were Qi blood replenishing pills.”

”My medicine bottles have never been that careless. Back in Beiyu City, Du Zhongshu was poisoned by his family brothers. After I detoxified him, his Qi and blood were deficient, so I gave him a bottle of Qi blood replenishing medicine. Looking at the bottle now, it certainly was from that time,” Bai Ruozhu explained as she pulled out two bottles from her sleeve to show everyone, ”Nowadays, I only use these jade bottles.”

”You say it, and it’s so? Everyone wants to clear themselves of blame,” the Grand Princess said.

The Doctor Sage calmly spoke up, ”Your Majesty, there is nothing but high-concentration liquor in this bottle, not poison, so how can we convict young friend Bai? Even if this liquor were mixed with water and consumed, it would only lead to drunkenness, not death, unless the drinker was severely ill and unable to drink alcohol.”

”She definitely didn’t mix it with water; drinking it would leave a person completely inebriated,” the Grand Princess insisted.

This time Bai Ruozhu spoke, ”This concentration of alcohol cannot be ingested directly; the throat couldn’t handle it. I have another bottle here; if not, perhaps the Grand Princess would like to try it herself?”

”Try what? You’re trying to take the opportunity to harm me, aren’t you?” The Grand Princess lost control completely and suddenly lunged at Bai Ruozhu, her long nails aiming for Bai Ruozhu’s face.

The situation unfolded too quickly; no one expected the Grand Princess to act like a shrew, attacking people right in front of the Emperor. Suddenly, a silver light flashed, and the Grand Princess screamed, her body veering away from Bai Ruozhu’s, falling to the ground.

Bai Ruozhu looked closely and saw that the silver light was her medicine bottle, previously in the Doctor Sage’s hand, which he hastily used to strike the Grand Princess, its mission accomplished as it nobly shattered on the ground into pieces.

”Thank you, esteemed seniors, for helping with the examination and testimonies. Ruozhu is grateful.” Bai Ruozhu ignored the Grand Princess and bowed to the Doctor Sage and Yao Yuxuan

She then turned to the Emperor and said, ”Your Majesty, since it has been proven that Lord Zheng’s death is unrelated to this humble servant, I request permission to leave the Capital.”

Before the Emperor could respond, a pained cry came from the ground, ”My stomach hurts so much, quickly, save my child!”

”Aunt, are you alright? Quick, Doctor Sage, please attend to the Grand Princess.” The Emperor hurried down from his seat and rushed to the Grand Princess’s side.

Bai Ruozhu retreated to the side, reassured that with the presence of Doctor Sage and Mr. Yao, there was no need for her intervention.

Yao Yuxuan leaned closer to her and whispered, ”Ruozhu girl, on such a cold day, you made me sit in the carriage till my hands were numb; you owe me a meal at the reception.”

”Alright, no problem!” Bai Ruozhu winked as she agreed.

Over there, the Doctor Sage remained gently smiling; appearing neither rushed nor worried. After feeling the Grand Princess’s pulse, he said, ”The Grand Princess is fine. She just needs to rest quietly at home.”

”How can there be nothing wrong when my stomach is in pain? It hurts terribly!” The Grand Princess cried out, although Bai Ruozhu quickly noticed her rolling her eyes, clearly cooking up some scheme. The stomachache was likely just a pretense.

Suddenly, the voice of the eunuch outside called out, ”Report to the Emperor, Ning Guoshi seeks an audience!”
