Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1668: 1668 Chapter: In the Cold War

”We’ll take Little Dengdeng with us, it’ll be better for you to catch up quickly.” Lin Ping’er suggested, and Bai Yihong agreed, the elderly couple clearly reluctant to part with their beloved grandson.

Bai Ruozhu smiled and said, ”No need, you have many things to worry about on the way, even Ruolan needs you to take good care of her, so I’ll keep Dengdeng with me, and Nanny Zhang can help too.”

At the mention of Bai Ruolan, Lin Ping’er and Bai Yihong both showed some concern, and no longer insisted.

”Xiaosi also claimed he is a descendant of the Bai Family and wants to follow us back home for the ancestor worship ceremony. I think Grandpa, the Patriarch, will definitely welcome him,” Bai Ruozhu continued, ”I asked Elder Xuan Jizi and his wife, and they want to accompany Xiaosi, saying it’s good to get away, which makes me feel much more at ease with their company.”

Lin Ping’er showed her joy, ”That’s wonderful. I was worried about Xiaosi’s Master Mother’s health and didn’t dare trouble them.”

Bai Ruozhu’s smile grew wider, ”They can’t bear to part from Xiaosi.”

”Xiaosi has good fortunes indeed,” Bai Yihong said with emotion.

”Absolutely, he’s found real loving parents,” Lin Ping’er said with a laugh.

Bai Ruozhu went to hold her mom and dad’s hands, saying, ”Aren’t you also loving parents to Xiaosi? He has plenty of good days ahead. Not to mention with the New Year coming, he’ll receive double the red envelopes.”

Everyone laughed together, feeling genuinely happy for Xiaosi.

After chatting with the family for a couple more sentences, Bai Ruozhu said goodbye and went out, with Jianqi mumbling behind her, ”Master, the Master Husband told you not to go out and to rest properly.”

Bai Ruozhu gave him a look, ”Am I your master, or is he your master? You’ve sworn an oath to this, you don’t owe him anything, so stop mentioning him all the time. Or do you want to switch loyalties?”

She was having a spat with Jiang Yichun, and Jianqi mentioning Jiang Yichun at this time was like asking for trouble.

Jianqi shrank his neck and dared not say more, only becoming extra cautious, afraid of not taking proper care.

Bai Ruozhu took the horse carriage and headed straight for the residence of the Medical Sage in the Capital, as she couldn’t feel at ease without finding clarity on this matter.

Upon arrival, she got off the carriage and asked the gatekeeper to pass on a message that she sought the Medical Sage to discuss medical skills.

”Oh, you’re late. My master left the Capital again last night, saying there’s a patient in the south in need of treatment, and he might not return until after the New Year,” the gatekeeper explained.

Bai Ruozhu observed his expression; it seemed honest, not like he was lying. Could it be the Medical Sage truly wasn’t at home?

”I even saw him at the Palace yesterday, how did he leave so quickly again?” Bai Ruozhu grew anxious.

”My master returned from the Palace yesterday, packed a bit, and left. He’s always unpredictable in his movements; why not leave a note, and come visit him next time when he returns?” the gatekeeper suggested politely.

Bai Ruozhu had no choice but to leave a note and depart.

The Medical Sage hurried from the Palace and then quickly left the Capital; he wasn’t deliberately avoiding her, was he?

He must have realized he slipped up!

Bai Ruozhu inwardly sneered, if he’s running even faster now, she doesn’t believe he can hide forever.

”Jianqi, send someone to investigate the whereabouts of the Medical Sage from the Commerce Association, just say I have matters to discuss with him,” Bai Ruozhu instructed Jianqi.

Jianqi looked at her strangely, wondering why specify reasons for seeking the Medical Sage. Master isn’t usually one to explain things, what’s gotten into her today?

When Bai Ruozhu returned home, Jiang Yichun was already waiting with a sullen face in the yard.

”Don’t you know you need to recuperate? Why are you running wild?” Jiang Yichun’s tone was quite unfriendly.

Bai Ruozhu opened her mouth intending to clarify, but suddenly she got temperamental, ”I am an adult and a doctor, how could I not know my own situation? I have my limits, so don’t worry about me!”

”Fine, in your eyes, I am cold-blooded and cruel, having no right to care for you!” Jiang Yichun said, tossing his sleeves as he left.

Bai Ruozhu stared blankly for a while, her eyes even grew sore, yet she didn’t see him return to the room. She felt both angry and wronged, blaming him even more.

After a while, Muyu approached quietly, saying, ”Madam, did you argue with the master?”

Bai Ruozhu glared at him fiercely, ”What do you mean by me arguing with him? Can’t you see it’s him arguing with me?”

Muyu scratched his nose and muttered, ”Does it matter who argues with whom? It’s the same anyway.”

Bai Ruozhu kicked him, feeling Muyu was particularly deserving of a kick.

”Go play elsewhere. Madam is not in the mood to talk to silly people, go away!”

Muyu grinned awkwardly, ”Madam, please let me finish, the master went to teach the young master to practice boxing.”

Bai Ruozhu gave him a blank stare, ”No need to tell me this, I don’t care what he does.”

Muyu pursed his lips, thinking women always say one thing but mean another. But this time, he didn’t dare mutter aloud, otherwise, Madam might kick him again.

”Also, I want to accompany you and the master back home; should we leave Dou Yun behind?” Although Muyu’s tone was inquiring, it was clear he did not want to bring her.

Bai Ruozhu raised her eyebrows and said deliberately, ”Didn’t you plead for her hand in marriage? Why not have her by your side to warm the bed? In this cold weather, without a wife, you must be lonely.”

Muyu’s face flushed, ”Madam, aren’t you being too straightforward?”

Bai Ruozhu’s lips twitched, perhaps she went a bit overboard...

”Why bring an idiot along? It’s just a burden. Anyway, there are people to take care of her at the Residence, so leave her in the Capital,” Muyu added.

”Alright, she’s your wife, you say whether to bring her or not.” Bai Ruozhu didn’t continue to trouble Muyu, as she too didn’t want to bring Dou Yun, a burden.

At night, Jiang Yichun returned to the room, but his wife only afforded him a backside, and he placed his coat aside, lying down with his back facing her.

Thus, the cold war between them continued, and when Bai Ruozhu woke up the next morning, he had gone to the court.

Today, the Grand Princess was publicly escorted out of the city to Jingxin Temple. She cried the whole way, appearing pitiful, causing some resentment among the people to dissipate. With their homes being rebuilt more rapidly, they focused more on construction and had little time to hold grudges against the Grand Princess.

As for Wang Chengen and Du Zhongshu, they received twenty lashes at the Government Office and were immediately escorted out of the Capital, moving towards North Pass.

Neither of them was a physically strong martial artist. After the lashes, they could barely walk, almost being dragged out of the Capital, suffering great humiliation as they were pointed at and discussed along the way.

”I’ve truly been blind, accepting you, a bearer of bad luck. Otherwise, I would have been happily serving as a Commerce Association Elder, avoiding such suffering!” Wang Chengen kept cursing nonstop, and if it weren’t for the shackles, he might have really gone to beat Du Zhongshu.
