Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1673: Chapter 1673: Blocking the Doorway

The matter was resolved, and the onlookers dispersed. Some even praised the Bai Family for their kindness, saying the woman from the Dou Family was too anxious and should discuss things properly. Making a scene like that was not a good look.

Bai Ruozhu entered the residence with a smile and went to the Main house to tell her parents about the incident.

”What? She obviously came to take advantage of us, and you just agreed?” Lin Ping’er was clear about her likes and dislikes; she got anxious upon hearing this. In contrast, Bai Yihong, standing beside her, comforted her, saying, ”It’s okay. Our family doesn’t lack that much. It’s better to let it go than to have her cause a scene, which might lead to gossip and affect the children’s reputation outside.”

Bai Ruozhu had mixed feelings about her father’s words. She loved that her father always prioritized the children’s benefits rather than putting the family’s interests first like many other big families. In those families, when personal interests conflicted with family interests, personal interests would be sacrificed without hesitation.

They were much luckier than children from many other big families.

But she hated her father’s way of avoiding conflict. Her father was too easygoing, which was why he was often bullied by those at the old mansion before. Fortunately, they weren’t her biological parents, so she felt relieved when she thought about it.

”Mom, don’t worry. She might not be able to leave with us.” Bai Ruozhu said with a cheeky smile.

Everyone in the Dou Family was used to being parasites, very selfish. The play hasn’t even started yet.

That night, Jiang Yichun returned very late, and Bai Ruozhu was already fast asleep. This time, he was filled with resentment and didn’t bother being gentle. Whether it was undressing or walking to the bed, his movements were intentionally louder. He didn’t believe she wouldn’t wake up from the noise. When she woke up, he needed to have a good talk with her.

He was her husband. Couldn’t she discuss things with him? Why did she have to risk going to see the emperor herself? And how dare she scheme against the emperor!

Also, what was her attitude in the Imperial Garden, just protecting that Chu Hai?

He tugged at his clothes so hard they were nearly torn, but Bai Ruozhu, lying with her back to him in bed, remained motionless as if she were in a deep sleep.

A wave of anger surged to his head. In a few steps, he rushed to the bed and yanked off the quilt covering her.

”You...” His voice abruptly stopped. The room was so silent it seemed a needle drop could be heard, the only sound being her deep, even breathing.

She was indeed in a deep sleep, not pretending. And as he looked at the spots of blood on her snow-white ancient underwear, his anger completely dissipated.

He took a closer look. She was indeed menstruating and had used some kind of sanitary napkin she made, but perhaps the flow was heavy, and it leaked a little.

He gently covered her back with the quilt again, knowing that at times like these, her body was weak and prone to catching a cold. He felt a bit regretful inside. Could he really get mad enough to make her ill?

With this in mind, he quietly climbed into bed, then sighed softly. Was he indebted to her? Even in such anger, he could only suppress it.

The next morning, to see off her parents, Bai Ruozhu got up very early. Jiang Yichun also took leave to see the elders off, so he didn’t leave for the morning court early like usual.

He glanced at Bai Ruozhu’s pale face and, with a dry cough, said, ”Get up and drink something warm, don’t tire yourself out.”

Bai Ruozhu, already upset with him and moody because of ”those days,” didn’t realize he was trying to make peace. She gave him a fierce glare and said, ”No need to trouble yourself, Master Jiang!”

After speaking, she got out of bed, put on her shoes and jacket, and quickly donned an outer garment before leaving the room.

Jiang Yichun stayed sitting on the bed, trying hard not to argue with her. Just as he was about to have a good talk, she had already gone.

Frustrated, he took a few deep breaths to calm himself down.

Since they were temporarily separating from her parents, eldest brother, sister-in-law, and second brother, Bai Ruozhu felt particularly reluctant. The family gathered for breakfast together.

Fang Guizhi had returned home the night before to send off Bai Yihong and the others, but she didn’t intend to go back to the old home with them, lest her mother cling to her again.

”Guizhi, after the New Year when we come back, we should settle your marriage,” Lin Ping’er suddenly said.

Fang Guizhi blushed, ”Godmother, are you getting tired of me?”

Lin Ping’er laughed, ”How could I dislike you? I’m just worried Wei San’s hair will turn grey with worry.”

Everyone laughed, and Bai Ruozhu secretly observed Fang Guizhi’s expression, feeling she had already made up her mind, much less hesitant than before.

Lin Ping’er then reminded Bai Ruozhu to take good care of herself and the child and to handle things early and meet up with them again, without mentioning anything about Jiang Yichun.

”Mom, you’re too biased. Aren’t you going to remind Ruozhu to take care of her brother-in-law?” Bai Zehao teased with a smile.

Lin Ping’er glared at him, ”It’s always Yichun taking care of Ruozhu. Of course, I need to remind Yichun well.”

After saying this, she spoke much to Jiang Yichun, who listened patiently and agreed to everything as if nothing had happened between him and Bai Ruozhu.

Soon after breakfast, no one dared delay any further, and they each got into their respective horse carriage.

At the entrance, Mrs. Dou, whose nose had turned red from the cold, finally saw the Bai Family’s Main Gate open. She hurried forward but didn’t expect to hear Dou Ning’s insults from behind.

”You wretched woman, trying to run off without a word, leaving us behind to eat and drink well? Has your conscience been eaten by dogs? Left your husband and children behind?”

Mrs. Dou’s face turned pale, thinking she had hidden it well from Dou Ning and tricked her younger son into covering for her. How did Dou Ning find out?

Behind him were his two sons, all looking at Mrs. Dou in disappointment, especially the younger son Dou Xingyu, previously fooled by her.

”Mom, you told me you were secretly sending off my sister, but you wanted to leave with her? How could you abandon us?” Nine-year-old Dou Xingyu began to cry.

This attracted attention from many heading to the morning market on the street.

”Where did you get that idea? I was just worried about Dou Yun and wanted to see her off. I didn’t say anything because I was afraid you’d be upset.” Mrs. Dou tried to remain calm, thinking of ways to coax her husband and children home.

”You’re lying to a ghost! The Bai Family just reminded you to bring your Identity Card, saying you’re going back home with them. You can’t go without the card in case of inspections on the way. Are you saying the Bai Family wronged you?” Dou Ning asked through gritted teeth.

Mrs. Dou inwardly cursed Bai Ruozhu. She knew this must be Bai Ruozhu’s doing, but she donned a smile and said softly, ”I’m doing this for our family, aren’t I? Following the Bai Family, there’s always a chance to reap some benefits. Wouldn’t that let you all live a good life when I get back?”
