Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1691: Chapter 1691: A Change in the Weather!

The next morning, Mistress Wu was very ashamed and said she had slept like a log, and hadn’t helped at all.

Bai Ruozhu, in the chaos of last night, had forgotten about Mistress Wu and Tu Bai. Now thinking back, she found it odd and hurriedly checked Mistress Wu’s pulse, then Tu Bai’s on the wheelchair.

”You both were affected by Mystical Fragrance last night,” Bai Ruozhu said, withdrawing her hand.

Mistress Wu was shocked, ”No wonder I slept so soundly, I thought it was just because I was too exhausted from the journey, not realizing we had fallen into someone’s trap!”

Bai Ruozhu saw her anger and quickly said, ”This was unexpected. Nianrong’s father is the famed Ghost Doctor in the Jianghu, and she disguised herself as the waiter yesterday, making it very easy for her to use Mystical Fragrance. Now that we know, we can be more vigilant in the future.”

Mistress Wu nodded, ”You’re right, I’ll be extra alert from now on.”

Tu Bai sat quietly by the side, looking very depressed.

Bai Ruozhu sighed inwardly, knowing this matter couldn’t be rushed. Once Tu Bai’s health improved, he could let go of his mental burden.

The group continued on their journey, being cautious at every step, but surprisingly, no incidents occurred. Nianrong didn’t appear, and none of her accomplices snuck into the group.

The only oddity was encountering Feng Jiu and the woman called Lingdang on the road, seemingly also heading to Beiyu City.

”It’s all because you’re so hot-tempered, otherwise we could have traveled together, and I’d have more company to chat with,” the woman noticed Bai Ruozhu’s group and lamented to Feng Jiu.

Feng Jiu pouted, ”What’s there to say? Can’t you just talk to me?”

The woman rolled her eyes at him, ”Talking to you is even more boring, it’s better not to talk at all!”

”Little Lingdang, are you still mad? They spoiled our plans, wasn’t it natural for me to get angry? Anyone would be angry.”

”Don’t call me Little Lingdang, you called me that since I was young, and now I’m old, you’re still calling me that. Aren’t you afraid people will laugh at you?” she said, giving him a twist, but not with much strength.

Feng Jiu chuckled, ”No matter how old we get, you will always be my Little Lingdang in my heart.”

”You... why do this, I’m not worthy of you at all,” her face clouded with sadness as she thought of something.

”I don’t care about the past, I only know you’re my woman now!” Feng Jiu said dominantly, pulling her into his arms.

...

In the following days, Bai Ruozhu’s morning sickness miraculously disappeared, and she regained her spirit, transforming back into a complete foodie, even eating more than usual. Jiang Yichun was overjoyed, eager to find all the delicious food to feed his wife, hoping to make her plump.

Little Dengdeng recently took up a new hobby; he loved putting his ear to his mother’s belly, claiming he could hear his sister talking, always insisting she wanted this or that, coincidentally making Bai Ruozhu drool whenever he mentioned something, almost making her believe the two little ones could communicate.

”Mom, sister wants to eat grapes!” Little Dengdeng called out again.

Images of plump, fragrant grapes instantly filled Bai Ruozhu’s mind, but where could she get grapes in this winter?

Jiang Yichun, accustomed to their routine, immediately said, ”No grapes? No problem, I’ll find raisins!”

He headed out but soon returned looking grim and empty-handed.

”Dad, where are the raisins?” Little Dengdeng tilted his head and asked.

Bai Ruozhu sensed something was wrong and quickly said, ”Dengdeng, go draw with Nanny Zhang, mommy will come join you later.”

She signaled Nanny Zhang with her eyes, and Nanny Zhang took Little Dengdeng to a carriage behind them.

”What happened?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”News came from upstairs, on New Year’s Eve, there was a sudden coup during the palace banquet, many ministers and noblewomen were killed, and the emperor was injured. Now the palace is in the hands of King Rui’s faction,” Jiang Yichun said through gritted teeth.

”What?” Bai Ruozhu’s eyes widened in shock, memories flooding before her eyes, piecing together the puzzling clues, revealing it was a plan long in the making!

She had suspected Prince Dan but never thought it could be King Rui, especially seeing his cloudy eyes. Yet, he hid his true nature so well!

”King Rui’s eyes weren’t blind, he used medicine to deceive everyone, even orchestrating his disappearance in Chengshui for his own schemes,” Jiang Yichun said, with cold light in his eyes, ”And he is Chiyou!”

Bai Ruozhu shivered, ”He hid so deeply. Wasn’t it said that upstairs supports Tang Yin’s unification? Why did they let King Rui seize power? Isn’t upstairs supposed to be strong? How come there’s no news?”

Jiang Yichun clenched his fists tightly, ”Another faction has been secretly supporting King Rui, even helping him cover up a lot, resulting in our negligence...”

”What about the emperor now? The Empress Dowager, what’s their situation?” Bai Ruozhu worried about her friends in the capital, unsure who attended the palace banquet, or if they survived the coup.

Thinking some of them might have died made her heart ache intensely. It was all her fault; she had so many clues yet chose to stay detached, and if she had reported the foreign people entering the capital and questioned the North Mountain explosion, the coup might not have happened!

”I heard the Shadow Guards rescued the emperor and some important ministers that night, and they are moving westwards, under the protection of Meng Liangshen, a trusted minister,” Jiang Yichun said.

Bai Ruozhu wanted to know who was with the emperor, but a thought flashed in her mind, wondering if there was a large weapon manufacturing site hidden under the North Mountain. With the recent snow affecting the mountain and continuous excavation, a collapse led to the exposure of the secret.

Afraid of exposure before the coup, King Rui’s faction might have relocated the weapons and military force, used kerosene and explosives to collapse the area, temporarily hiding the secret. After all, once the coup succeeded or failed, exposing the secret wouldn’t matter.

Bai Ruozhu struck her head in frustration, ”It’s all my fault, why did I only think of leaving the capital without getting involved? What should we do now? Guizhi, Uncle Zhang, they’re all still in the capital, and what about Diao Bin and Miao An, what will happen to them?”

She began to cry, and Jiang Yichun quickly embraced her, ”It’s not your fault, who would have thought?”
