Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1682: Chapter 1682: Denial

”I rode my horse desperately to catch up, and my legs were blistered with blood.” Bai Qizhi spoke with even more grievance, ”When I reached North Mountain, there was an explosion, scared me to death, thankfully I didn’t go up the mountain, boohoo boohoo, I almost couldn’t see you all.”

Bai Ruozhu saw that she was indeed mentally exhausted, and because of the sudden fainting earlier, her forehead was also scraped a bit, she couldn’t help but feel a bit distressed, but thinking about her father’s lineage, she had to ask cruelly: ”Why are you so urgent to find me?”

Bai Qizhi was still naively unaware of Bai Ruozhu’s coldness, crying and stammering: ”Sister Ruozhu, I know everything now, Grandpa suddenly got sick, in his confusion, he said everything.”

Bai Ruozhu gritted her teeth, she knew Bai Guanghe couldn’t be trusted, that saying is true, only dead men keep secrets.

Fortunately, her father had already left the Capital, otherwise if Bai Qizhi came crying to the door, she might find out something.

”The doctor said Grandpa’s illness is from the heart, heart disease needs to be treated with heart medicine, I know Grandpa owes Uncle, but he’s already old, guilty all his life, can’t he be given a chance?” Bai Qizhi continued.

”So what if he’s old? Can he avoid his mistakes because he’s old? Since you know, you should also know that back then he favored his concubine over his wife, left his own flesh and blood to wander outside, and even harmed my father to not have a good day since childhood.” Bai Ruozhu found herself somewhat agitated, trying to lower her voice so the servants wouldn’t hear.

”If your grandpa had anything reliable about him, when Bai Yuanqing died abroad back then, wouldn’t he rather entrust my father to outsiders, instead of sending him back home? He said if my father couldn’t achieve fame in the future, he’d better not know his own lineage, for fear that without background he’d recognize his ancestors only to be killed!”

Bai Qizhi listening, turned pale, she had rushed back from Jiangnan to see her grandpa Bai Guanghe, but Bai Guanghe had been sick for days, coincidentally when she went, Bai Guanghe was speaking nonsense, revealing Bai Yihong as his eldest son, Bai Ruozhu as his granddaughter.

But because Bai Guanghe was muddled and repeated just those few words, many details were left unsaid, so Bai Ruozhu’s words were also heard by Bai Qizhi for the first time, shocked and shamed.

Bai Ruozhu saw her unclear, simply recounted past events, then explained the hardships her father endured over the years, finally asking Bai Qizhi: ”Do you think if my father knew the truth again, it wouldn’t cause him even greater harm?”

Bai Qizhi’s lips trembled, ”How could this be, the family always thought Grandpa’s original wife Jiao died early, leaving no children, during the annual memorial we would also pay respect to this granny, unaware it was like this.”

”You go back, I won’t yield on this matter, even if your grandpa reconciles with my father, so what? He lacks remorse, does he think he’s justified towards the original wife Jiao Family? Young couples couldn’t accompany each other to old age, even almost killed by his concubine, can his heart disease be cured so quickly?” Bai Ruozhu scoffed, ”I consider you a friend, but I don’t want my father to be hurt again.”

Bai Qizhi couldn’t figure out how she walked out of the Bai Residence, when she returned to her own Bai Residence, suddenly felt extremely ironic, same Bai Residence, yet as distant as the horizon.

Back when she met Bai Ruozhu in Jiangnan, she even joked they both shared the surname Bai, maybe they were family. Turned out she was right, just like this type of family.

Bai Qizhi isn’t young, naturally she could think of the complex relations, her grandma was the second wife, she was originally the eldest son, if her grandpa reconciled with Bai Yihong, then the status of the eldest son would inevitably be affected, hence the matter unintentionally revealed by the old man, the family only had her desperately seeking Bai Ruozhu.

Bai Ruozhu sent someone to secretly follow Bai Qizhi, she said she wouldn’t recognize Bai Guanghe’s family, but still cared for Bai Qizhi, fearing this girl might collapse on the road.

Luckily Bai Qizhi safely returned to Bai Guanghe’s residence, Bai Ruozhu heard the dark guard report back, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

In the evening, Zhang Liliang hurriedly returned, as soon as he saw Bai Ruozhu, he excitedly asked: ”Ruozhu, outside there’s talk your father is Bai Guanghe, the Ministry of Rites assistant minister’s eldest son, do you know about this?”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t sit still, ”Uncle Zhang, where did you hear this? Who’s spreading it?”

Zhang Liliang saw her reaction, knew she was aware of this matter.

”Your father finally found his biological father, why haven’t you told him?” Zhang Liliang asked puzzledly, but after asking, he noticed Bai Ruozhu’s unpleasant expression, constantly running business made him understand.

”Uncle Zhang, my father doesn’t know yet, but it seems the opportunity to tell him has come.” Bai Ruozhu said with a bitter smile.

Zhang Liliang couldn’t probe further, awkwardly added: ”Heard it was a doctor from Fushou Hall who went to see Bai Guanghe, heard him muttering then spread it around.”

Bai Ruozhu rubbed her temples, indeed trouble caused by Bai Guanghe’s nonsense, and that Fushou Hall’s doctor was too incompetent, hearing such during a diagnosis shouldn’t be spread everywhere.

While they were talking, Fusa rushed in like a whirlwind.

”Ruozhu, some madams just came asking, whether your father is Bai Guanghe’s original wife’s eldest son, I said he’s not, they heard it spread all over the Capital, even said Bai Guanghe’s granddaughter came looking for you, even fainted at the Main Gate...” Fusa rapid-fire said.

Bai Ruozhu took a deep breath, said: ”If anyone asks again, just say unclear, this matter isn’t urgent, I don’t plan to recognize Bai Guanghe, their family favored the concubine over the wife, almost killed my grandma and father, better not recognize this kinship.”

Zhang Liliang and Fusa exchanged a glance, decided not to ask more.

”Alright, we understand, we’ll say unclear if asked,” Fusa replied.

”Well, you’ve just returned, let’s have dinner together.” Bai Ruozhu said smiling.

Unexpectedly, a servant hurriedly ran to the door, said: ”Miss, Eunuch Wang from the Palace is here, says the Emperor summons you.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help frowning again, alright, it must be the family matter with Bai Guanghe reaching the Emperor’s ears, this dinner won’t be comfortable.

”Alright, I’ll go now.” She apologized with a smile to Zhang Liliang and Fusa, said: ”Seems dinner has to wait until next time.”

”Not a problem, you better go quickly, don’t keep the Emperor waiting.” Zhang Liliang said.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, strode outside.

Upon seeing Wang Shun, Wang Shun still smiled: ”Master Bai, your lips are really tight!”
