Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1695: Chapter 1695: Wounded Like This

When Bai Ruozhu returned to the horse carriage again, her steps were already unsteady. She didn’t expect that the nausea would reappear on the later part of the journey, and it was even more severe.

Nanny Zhang was so anxious that blisters appeared at the corners of her mouth. After discussing with Jianqi, they decided to slow down the pace of the convoy to prevent Bai Ruozhu from feeling more uncomfortable.

As a result, the journey that was supposed to take three days turned into five days. Five days later, Bai Ruozhu finally vomited her way to Beiyu City. Even after entering Beiyu City, she vomited a few times in the area she had lived in for a while.

The horse carriage headed towards the Meng Residence. Soon the coachman reduced the speed, excitedly shouting, ”Young Lady, it’s the Young Master, it’s the Young Master!”

Bai Ruozhu hastily opened the curtain of the carriage, and as expected, her elder brother was standing by the roadside, eagerly looking in the direction of the vehicles entering the city, clearly waiting for her.

When the coachman shouted, Bai Zehao recognized them too. He hurried forward, somewhat excitedly asking, ”Why did you change horse carriages? I didn’t recognize it.”

”Uncle, I missed you so much!” Little Dengdeng jumped off the horse carriage like a lively little deer and leapt into Bai Zehao’s arms.

Bai Ruozhu was helped off the horse carriage by Nanny Zhang, ”Elder Brother, how many days have you been waiting here?”

”Not many days. It happened that Second Brother needed to go to the Meng Residence for some affairs, so Father and Mother asked me to wait here for you. We’ve received your letter, Mother was so delighted!” Bai Zehao said, his eyes falling on Bai Ruozhu’s belly that had no sign of pregnancy.

Bai Ruozhu gave her elder brother a playful look and said, ”I wanted a daughter, but my Little Dengdeng insisted on having a brother, saying he already has Sister Chenxi. Elder Brother, this is all your fault!”

Bai Zehao was a bit confused, how was it his fault?

However, he didn’t pay much attention, grinned, and said, ”Your sister-in-law is expecting too. It was discovered during the New Year’s ancestral hall visit, and Grandpa the clan leader says this child has good omens, will be quite something in the future.”

Looking at his elder brother’s proud face, Bai Ruozhu pursed her lips and laughed, ”Congratulations to Elder Brother and Sister-in-law. Just in time for my return, I can check Sister-in-law’s pulse and see if any adjustments are needed.”

”Great, with you here, I’m relieved.” Bai Zehao said with a silly smile.

”Are Father and Mother still in the village?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”Yes, Father and Mother said they didn’t realize before, but after going back once, they felt they missed it dearly and wanted to stay for a few more days.” From Bai Zehao’s tone, it could be seen he was unaware of the palace turmoil.

Bai Ruozhu didn’t want to talk about it on the street, so she pulled her elder brother onto the carriage, ”Accompany me to the Meng Residence first. It’s been a long time since I’ve returned; I ought to visit my adoptive grandmother.”

”Alright, alright, it’s necessary.” Bai Zehao said with a face full of happiness.

Bai Ruozhu brought her elder brother to the Meng Residence. The people there greeted her with joyful expressions, but when Bai Ruozhu saw Mrs. Meng, she still noticed the worry in her eyes.

The dynasty is about to change, no matter how big the joyous occasion is, it won’t feel joyful.

”Ruozhu girl, you know it all, right?” Mrs. Meng asked.

Bai Ruozhu nodded and sighed heavily, ”On the road at the Commerce Association, I saw news that the Empress Dowager has passed...”

She hadn’t finished speaking before she choked up.

Mrs. Meng reached out to embrace Bai Ruozhu, and the two of them held each other and cried.

Beside them, Bai Zehao looked confused, what’s going on? Should he offer comfort?

Fortunately, at that moment, someone outside reported that the master and Second Young Master had arrived.

Soon Meng Liangshen and Bai Zepei walked in. Seeing the frail little sister, Bai Zepei felt a slight sting in his heart.

Bai Ruozhu hurriedly sat up straight, wiped her tears with a handkerchief. Mrs. Meng also quickly regained her composure, yet both were silent, showing just how heavy their hearts were.

”It’s good that Ruozhu is back. I heard you are expecting; try not to overthink things now. Health is most important.” Meng Liangshen said.

”Thank you, adoptive father, for your concern. Ruozhu understands.” Bai Ruozhu performed a courtesy to Meng Liangshen and then looked at her second brother she hadn’t seen for days.

Second Brother had also grown thinner, likely worried about the affairs of state recently.

Bai Zepei’s expression didn’t change, but he asked coldly, ”Where is Jiang Yichun?”

Bai Ruozhu smiled bitterly; Second Brother is always so sharp.

”He learned of the major changes in the capital and went to support His Majesty. Besides, he is worried about his mother’s safety.” Bai Ruozhu softly reminded, ”She is now Lady Wang of Xue County.”

”With Xiaojiang assisting His Majesty, things are more assured.” Meng Liangshen showed joy, then was glared at by Mrs. Meng, whereupon he coughed dryly twice and said, ”It’s just unfortunate for Ruozhu.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”It’s necessary; the country comes first, then family. If the capital is lost, how could we remain unaffected?”

At this moment, even Bai Zehao vaguely understood what was happening, though it took him quite a while to fully accept it.

Subsequently, Meng Liangshen also discussed some of the current situation, and although Bai Ruozhu is a woman, she held an official position, and she immediately expressed that she could organize members of the Medical Alliance to head westward, to bolster the Northwest forces.

”Moreover, I have discussed with Achun, and we will donate our wealth to aid His Majesty in regaining power.” Bai Ruozhu said.

Of course, she meant only her portion of the money; she wouldn’t make decisions for her family’s portion.

Bai Zehao said, ”We will also contribute funds and efforts!”

Mrs. Meng wiped her eyes, ”Good, good, you are all good children. I believe this issue will be resolved soon!”

”Master, something has happened!” The steward hurriedly ran to the door and shouted.

Meng Liangshen frowned, ”What is it, shouting like that?”

He had been devastated by bad news a few days ago, and now he didn’t want to hear any more bad news!

”It’s the Young Master who has suffered severe injuries; he fears, fears he can’t hold on!” The steward spoke, his voice trembling.

Bai Ruozhu’s mind instantly conjured up the image of Meng Hanhong, but unexpectedly, Meng Liangshen nervously asked, ”How did Huilin get hurt? Where is he?”

Only then did she remember that the Meng Family had recognized Xu Huilin, who was now the Young Master of the Meng Family, not Meng Hanhong.

”It is said that the Young Master received a secret letter and went out with people, but upon returning, he was the only one, covered in blood. We’ve had your men carry him back to the yard.” The steward said.

Meng Liangshen rushed out like the wind, and Bai Ruozhu followed hastily, hoping she could offer help.

They quickly reached Xu Huilin’s yard, no, now it should be called Meng Huilin’s yard; but no matter the surname, in Bai Ruozhu’s eyes, he was always that sly Senior Fox.

The yard was in chaos; the servants were in panic, some servants were crying out loudly in the yard.

”Young Master, please wake up, you didn’t let me follow, how did things turn out this way?”

Meng Liangshen charged in, grabbed the crying servant and threw him aside, but then his pupils constricted, his body shook; how did his eldest son get injured like this!
