Chapter 1686: Chapter 1686: New Year’s Eve Assassination

Jiang Yichun’s mouth twitched slightly. What do you mean by ”Mom, don’t die”? Kids are just too dramatic.

He was so panicked that he even forgot he knew medical skills. He lifted her wrist and started examining it carefully.

Quickly, his expression changed from serious to elated, but shortly after, he looked worried again.

”Dad, Mom won’t die, right?” Little Dengdeng looked at his dad with tearful eyes, utterly adorable.

Jiang Yichun couldn’t help rubbing his son’s little head, laughing, ”Your mom’s fine. She’s going to have a baby sister for you!”

Little Dengdeng froze for a moment, then frowned and shouted, ”I don’t want that! I want a brother; I already have Chenxi!”

Jiang Yichun chuckled, ”But your mom wants a daughter. Don’t you care about your mom? If you care, you’ll want a sister.”

Little Dengdeng looked conflicted, and after a while, he said weakly, ”Alright then.”

At this moment, Bai Ruozhu slowly woke up. As soon as her eyes focused, she saw two faces, big and small, leaning close to her.

”Mom, you’re awake, you’re going to have a sister for me!”

Bai Ruozhu felt a bit confused. Facing Jiang Yichun’s mischievous grin, she finally came to realization.

She’s pregnant again!

Does pregnancy spread too? She had just checked Yu Hongxiu’s pulse for pregnancy recently, and Yu Hongxiu jokingly said she should experience some changes by now, and she turned out to be right.

She didn’t want to have a second child so soon, so she had been taking contraceptive pills. She found the post-event pills troublesome and specially crafted a pill to take once a month to prevent pregnancy.

Many things happened lately, especially the arguments between them, she even forgot about the pills.

Jiang Yichun grasped her hand with a smile and said, ”You are expecting now, so we shouldn’t rush our journey. No wonder you’ve been saying you’re tired — now you shouldn’t overexert yourself.”

Bai Ruozhu rolled her eyes at him and gritted her teeth, ”It’s all your fault. You enjoyed yourself and left me suffering.”

Jiang Yichun pursed his lips, ”Who said I enjoyed myself? I suffered too.”

Bai Ruozhu understood what he meant, looked at her clueless son, and pinched him in anger. ”Don’t talk nonsense in front of the kid. If you dare to spoil him, I’ll make you kneel on a washing board every day.”

Jiang Yichun’s smile deepened, ”Alright, we’ll talk about it tonight.”

Little Dengdeng looked at his mom, ”Mom, you will have a baby sister.”

Bai Ruozhu burst into laughter, ”Alright, Dengdeng’s words are always so true; Mom will definitely have a baby sister!”

With their son’s words, she was very happy.

Unexpectedly, the next few days were spent with Bai Ruozhu constantly vomiting; she almost ate to vomit and vomited to eat, losing weight rapidly.

In order to protect the baby, she didn’t want to take medicine randomly, so she had to endure. Jiang Yichun was worried to death, heartbroken beyond measure.

So halfway through the waterway journey, Jiang Yichun changed to the land route regardless of Bai Ruozhu’s objections.

”I said long-term pain is worse than short-term pain. Since it’s uncomfortable anyway, why not get home early? Isn’t it more unbearable to delay more?” Bai Ruozhu was still nauseous and retching while riding a horse, complaining sullenly.

Jiang Yichun touched his nose, ”At least it’s better than being on the boat. I’ll try to have the cart driven more smoothly. Besides, I’ve already sent word to our parents with the good news. It doesn’t matter how slow we go back.”

Little Dengdeng earnestly said, ”Let’s play while we travel. There are so many places I haven’t been.”

The couple was amused by their son’s adorable suggestion, and Bai Ruozhu had to agree.

With this delay, they were less than two-thirds through the journey and welcomed the Lunar New Year.

The family of three stopped at a small town called Qiufeng Town. Despite the town’s size, it was rich in festive atmosphere. The innkeeper even invited them to join for New Year’s Eve dinner, very welcoming.

Jiang Yichun bought some fireworks for Little Dengdeng, and the father and son set off fireworks happily in front of the inn while Bai Ruozhu, afraid of the gunpowder smell, sat in the inn’s main hall, sipping hot soup, waiting for them.

A waiter brought a plate of dried fruits over, with a cheerful tone, ”This is for the madam, wishing you a baby soon!”

It’s customary during New Year to give women red dates, peanuts, dried longan, and melon seeds, signifying wishes for baby arrival.

Unexpectedly, Bai Ruozhu frowned and capriciously said, ”I don’t want another boy — I’m having a girl.”

The waiter probably didn’t expect auspicious words to provoke such a response, but quickly his expression changed, cold light flashed in his eyes as he slammed the tray toward Bai Ruozhu’s face, then swiftly pulled a dagger hidden beneath the tray toward her neck.

”Master!” Jianqi was not standing close, no one expected the waiter to be an assassin, and he moved fast, almost slashing Bai Ruozhu’s neck.

Outside, although Jiang Yichun was accompanying his son setting off fireworks, his gaze constantly fell on Bai Ruozhu. Upon witnessing this scene, his heart raced, and he dropped the fireworks to rush into the main hall.

But how could their speed compare to the nearby waiter? Bai Ruozhu formed a hand seal, seemingly creating a barrier that barely blocked the waiter’s dagger.

Then a flash of white light popped from her shoulder and bit the waiter’s neck.

”You...” the waiter called out, then collapsed onto the ground.

Recently Bai Ruozhu’s health was poor; she used a simple defense magic technique, almost depleting all her essence, and sat powerlessly in the chair, her back soaked from cold sweat.

Jianqi rushed over, skillfully dislocated the waiter’s jaw to prevent him from biting his tongue to commit suicide or taking poison, and pressed his acupoint.

Jiang Yichun reached them, held Bai Ruozhu in his arms, and asked tremblingly, ”Are you okay?”

Bai Ruozhu shook her head, ”I’m fine; he is poisoned by Furball’s poisonous insect; I don’t believe he won’t confess honestly.”

Jiang Yichun kicked the unconscious waiter hard and yelled inside, ”Shopkeeper, what is the meaning of this?”

The shopkeeper was dragged out by Chenxi, shrunk his neck, and said in terror, ”Injustice, I really don’t know; Xiaozhou has been at the store for a long time. He’s usually smart, but he wouldn’t dare to attack your wife without cause or reason.”

Bai Ruozhu, having calmed her breath, slowly stood up and moved beside the fallen waiter.

”Hey, this waiter’s face is not right,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Ignoring the shopkeeper, Jiang Yichun turned to the waiter, ”Don’t move, let me handle this.”

Bai Ruozhu pouted, being treated like a porcelain doll?

Though, when Jiang Yichun discovered the human skin mask on the waiter’s face, she was stunned...
