Chapter 1692: Chapter 1692: Wishing You Peace

Jiang Yichun gently patted her back, speaking softly, ”The loss of power in the Capital City is only temporary; the situation happened too suddenly. Most of the military force is in the hands of the emperor’s trusted aides, so there won’t be major issues. Moreover, King Rui needs the support of officials and the citizens in the Capital City to ascend to the throne; he won’t easily kill officials’ families.”

Bai Ruozhu wiped her eyes, trying to calm herself down. She was too shocked. As a modern person, she had never witnessed a change of dynasty; life was always peaceful, unlike in ancient times where talk of rebellion and usurping power happened so casually.

”You’re right. King Rui won’t act recklessly; otherwise, he wouldn’t have endured and plotted for so long.” Bai Ruozhu’s eyes regained their sparkle. ”I will immediately send secret orders for my subordinates in the Capital to relocate to the Northwest. I will support the Imperial Court with money and medicine in my possession!”

Jiang Yichun hesitated. He didn’t want Bai Ruozhu to act so heroically. Most women, and even the officials of the Imperial Court, along with those reputable merchants, could hardly make such a decision as giving all their wealth to support the Imperial Court. Bai Ruozhu, however, made her decision instantly.

Bai Ruozhu smiled at him, ”There’s a country before there’s a home. If King Rui gains control, none of us—our family, friends—will have peaceful days anymore. Without stability, what’s the use of keeping that money?”

Jiang Yichun reached out to rub her head, ”You are indeed different from others, dear wife. Add my portion to yours.”

Bai Ruozhu gave him a big eye roll, ”Aren’t you mine? Or do you have some secret stash of money?”

”I don’t.”

Through their joking banter, their moods improved significantly. Jiang Yichun sent people to deliver messages and gather news.

By evening, Jiang Yichun returned to the room at the Inn, speaking hesitantly, with a look of indecision.

Bai Ruozhu thought for a moment and asked him directly, ”Achun, is there something you find difficult to say?”

”Huh?” This question left Jiang Yichun even more unsure of how to respond.

Bai Ruozhu sighed, ”I know. You want to join the emperor and see your mother’s situation. But have you thought it through? If your mother hasn’t left the Capital City, do you plan to go in and rescue her?”

Jiang Yichun hung his head and didn’t say anything for a long time. It appeared he really had such thoughts.

Bai Ruozhu was somewhat angry, ”I am not against rescuing your mother, but if you plan to return alone to a Capital City occupied by King Rui’s faction, it’s almost equivalent to sending yourself to death. Let alone your secret faction ’Lou Shang Lou,’ you said yourself that another faction within ’Lou Shang Lou’ is already supporting King Rui. Who knows which of your hidden pawn is actually their person?”

”If anything happens to you, what about me and the kids? I’m about to have another child now, do you want our daughter to be unable to see her father upon birth?” Bai Ruozhu spoke emotionally, her body trembling slightly.

Afraid of her harming herself in anger, Jiang Yichun quickly embraced her, saying, ”Don’t worry. I won’t act impulsively. I’ll join the emperor, and if there’s a need to rescue officials’ families, I’ll volunteer to lead a group over. I won’t act recklessly. I promised to take care of you for a lifetime; I won’t eat my words, nor will I leave the children fatherless.”

Bai Ruozhu noticed his determination and felt somewhat suffocated, biting her lip, ”Fine, if anything happens to you, I’ll immediately find a stepfather for the child, letting them call another person ’dad!’”

”Who will you find?” Jiang Yichun, worried, asked immediately.

”There are many choices. Sangta’s not bad. I believe he would treat my children well.” Bai Ruozhu lifted her chin challengingly.

”You dare! I will definitely return before our daughter is born; you are not allowed to think about others!” After speaking, he kissed her firmly as if punishing her for nonsense, holding the kiss powerfully, so much that her lips turned red and swollen.

Bai Ruozhu was feeling down but didn’t stop him anymore. In such crisis times, one can’t linger on romantic feelings. After all, there are more than just their family in this world; many relatives and friends exist. If her own family were in trouble, she would also risk everything to rescue them.

Jiang Yichun awkwardly embraced her, trying to move a certain part of himself aside, making his posture slightly awkward, not only looking odd but also making his body more stiff.

God knows how much he wanted her; that kiss meant to punish her ended up tormenting himself instead.

But his wife’s pregnancy was still unstable; how could he act like a beast and mistreat her?

The next morning, Jiang Yichun left with Flash and a few personal guards, leaving most of the military force with Bai Ruozhu and their son.

Before leaving, he held Bai Ruozhu tightly, his voice somewhat choked, ”Dear wife, I’m sorry. I’ll hurry back to accompany you and the child as soon as possible.”

Bai Ruozhu’s nose felt a bit sour. How long this journey would take, what would happen was unknown, perhaps even full of dangers.

”Go without worry, I’ll look after the children and family. You must return safely,” she said, tears already streaming. Afraid he would feel worse seeing this, she quickly buried her face in his shoulder, surreptitiously wiping the tears away.

Jiang Yichun didn’t speak for a long time, only uttering softly before leaving, ”I only have one mother left.”

Bai Ruozhu shivered, feeling a bit more guilt. Yes, his father died unjustly; he only had one mother left in the world.

After Jiang Yichun left, she let tears flow freely, silently praying for his safety and quick return.

Little Dengdeng woke up and found his father gone, immediately crying loudly.

”I don’t want Dad to leave, I want Dad to play with me!” He cried loudly, throwing a tantrum, kicking his legs while lying on the ground.

Bai Ruozhu rarely saw Little Dengdeng act so spoiled and unreasonable, momentarily stunned. Only when Nanny Zhang worried he’d catch a cold and went to lift him did Bai Ruozhu return to herself.

Children, after all, no matter how sensible, couldn’t control their emotions properly.

”Dengdeng, be good. If bad people captured Mom, would you not care?” Bai Ruozhu asked softly.

Upon hearing the word ’bad people,’ Dengdeng’s attention was instantly captured, and his fuss became less severe.

”I would rescue Mom, asking Dad to join me!” He then cried again, ”I want Dad. Where did my dad go? Does he not want me?”

These words were so heartfelt, even Nanny Zhang couldn’t help but wipe her eyes, and Bai Ruozhu shed more tears.

”If Mom were taken by bad people, you would surely rescue her. Now your Dad’s mother is in trouble; can he ignore her?” Bai Ruozhu guided him gently.

Little Dengdeng pouted, ”Then Dad can take me too.”

Bai Ruozhu came over to hug him, saying, ”Your dad was in a rush and didn’t have time to say goodbye. He asked me to tell you to stay to help look after Mom and baby sister. With you beside Mom, he’ll truly be at ease. Can our Dengdeng protect Mom?”
