Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1693: Chapter 1693: People Hiding in the Car

Little Dengdeng jumped up from the ground, puffed out his small chest, and said, ”I can protect mother!” But after saying that, his little face fell, and he cried, ”But I really want a brother, I don’t want a sister!”

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched, and she hugged him, saying, ”Alright, then a brother. You can protect mother and your brother, okay?”

”Okay!” This time Dengdeng finally stopped crying, though his little face still had glistening tears, and he was still sobbing a little from crying so hard earlier.

Bai Ruozhu breathed a big sigh of relief, immediately gave Nanny Zhang a look, and hurriedly took Dengdeng to have a simple breakfast, then the convoy continued moving forward.

This time Bai Ruozhu dared not delay a bit, ordering everyone to speed up, so she could feel at ease once they reached the Northwest early.

At lunchtime, Lady Wu sensed that something was wrong and came over to ask where Jiang Yichun had gone.

Bai Ruozhu knew she couldn’t hide it from her, so she lowered her voice and said, ”He received a secret report yesterday that there was a coup at the New Year’s Eve palace banquet, and King Rui’s faction has taken over the Capital City.”

”What?” Lady Wu exclaimed, but she knew it was not the time for chaos, so she quickly asked in a low voice, ”What about the Emperor?”

”It’s said the Emperor got injured and was escorted towards Beiyu City, and Achun went to join up with them,” Bai Ruozhu added.

Lady Wu nodded, pondered silently for a while before saying, ”I never expected it to be King Rui. We always said Prince Duan would rebel, but never imagined King Rui was hiding so deeply.”

Bai Ruozhu gritted her teeth, ”I once saw King Rui on the street; his eyes were gray, looking like a severe eye disease. I never considered him a formidable figure, but who would’ve thought he was so cunning that even I misjudged him.”

”Perhaps it was because you were far away, and since King Rui rarely went out, maybe if you were closer, you might have noticed something,” Lady Wu comforted her.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, just because King Rui always claimed to have eye disease and stayed in the Residence for health, he deceived everyone!

As they were talking, a woman rushed in like the wind, sat by a window table, and shouted to the waiter, ”Two plates of the Signature Dish, two Steamed Buns!”

Bai Ruozhu’s attention was drawn over, wasn’t that the woman called ”Lingdang” by someone named Fen Jiu?

The woman looked over at Bai Ruozhu, recognized her, and immediately gave a friendly smile.

They say you don’t hit a smiling face, so Bai Ruozhu nodded politely at her, then shifted her gaze away.

She didn’t dislike the woman, but how could she be friendly with them when Fen Jiu had injured her Achun?

She glanced quickly at the woman again, feeling puzzled; wasn’t Fen Jiu known to be henpecked? Why was he separated from the woman?

Just as she was thinking this, Fen Jiu rushed in like the wind, grabbed the woman’s arm, and said, ”Don’t run around. It’s fine you want to fulfill your mother’s last wishes, but why get involved with him? The Capital is in such chaos, I won’t let you risk it.”

The woman shook off Fen Jiu’s hand, saying, ”I’m just going to take a look, otherwise I can’t get over it in my heart.”

”Jiao Ling! Your mother wouldn’t forgive him, why are you going? Aren’t you worried about disappointing her?” Fen Jiu cried, ”Besides, maybe he escaped with the Danliang Emperor to the Northwest, we can wait for them in Beiyu City.”

The two of them argued as if no one else were around, and the waiter was unsure if he should approach with the food until the woman noticed him and said, ”Put the food down.”

The waiter quickly set the food down and hurried away.

The woman ignored Fen Jiu and started eating on her own. Fen Jiu, seemingly sulking, grabbed another steamed bun and stuffed it into his mouth, not touching the dishes. Bai Ruozhu thought, can’t he choke himself?

”The bun is mine; if you want to eat, order your own!” the woman said angrily.

Fen Jiu quickly stuffed more into his mouth and said with a full mouth, ”I won’t let you run around.”

In frustration, the woman threw down her chopsticks, ”I insist on heading to the Capital. If I meet him on the way, fine. If he’s not with the Danliang Emperor, I must enter the Capital!”

Bai Ruozhu listened intently and figured these two were definitely not from Danliang. Otherwise, they would just call him ”the Emperor.” Referring to him as ”Danliang Emperor” means they aren’t from Danliang Country.

As she speculated, the woman suddenly leaped up, used her qinggong to run outside, and it was incredibly proficient. Bai Ruozhu knew she couldn’t catch up.

Having spent so much effort on her qinggong even though her Martial Arts weren’t advanced, her inner strength wasn’t great, but compared to those dark guards, she wasn’t lacking.

Squinting, she concluded these two were indeed formidable.

Fen Jiu called out and chased after the woman, but the waiter ran after them, yelling, ”You didn’t pay for your meal!”

Fen Jiu paused, pulled out a silver ingot, tossed it over, and then swiftly chased after the woman.

The waiter was excited upon seeing the silver ingot but didn’t expect it to hit him on the forehead, drawing blood immediately.

This made Bai Ruozhu dislike Fen Jiu even more; even if you’re in a bad mood, you shouldn’t take it out on a waiter. Isn’t paying for your meal the bare minimum?

The shopkeeper hurried over to inquire about the waiter’s injury, and the waiter, holding his forehead, said, ”It’s nothing, it’s nothing. That hero must be an expert; just a light force was enough to hurt me, truly admirable.”

”Alright, alright, you go rest. No need to work today, go to the accounts room and get some silver for your injury,” the shopkeeper said.

Bai Ruozhu glanced at the waiter, finding his composure genuinely broad-minded, and tossed over a box of ointment.

”Young brother, apply this ointment, and the wound will heal quickly,” Bai Ruozhu said.

The waiter watched as the medicine box landed securely in his hand, with just the right amount of force to let him catch it. He was stunned for a moment and quickly thanked Bai Ruozhu, ”Thank you, madam, for the medicine.”

A customer nearby muttered, ”That madam tossed it so steadily while that man was careless; no wonder he can’t find a wife; what woman can tolerate that temper?”

Amid everyone’s chatter, Bai Ruozhu and her group quickly finished their meal and got back on the horse carriage to continue their journey.

But as soon as Bai Ruozhu got into the carriage, she was startled. How could there be someone hiding inside! She instinctively called Little Furball to attack, thinking there was an assassin inside.

”No, I mean no harm, just borrowing this place to hide for a while,” the woman crouched in the corner, raising her head to look at Bai Ruozhu with a somewhat pitiful expression.

Bai Ruozhu paused, telling Little Furball not to attack. For some reason, looking into the woman’s eyes made her feel at ease and she instinctively felt the woman meant no harm.

Afterwards, Little Dengdeng and Nanny Zhang were also getting into the carriage. Bai Ruozhu made room for them and then gestured to them to keep quiet.
