Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

On the fourth night, the Special Forces, carrying the ”carefully” prepared ”present” for Cyril, began their final plan: to blow up Cyril’s auction hall. Ye Jian was responsible for sniping to create chaos, while her comrades coordinated with each other to leave the scene.

As the last streak of twilight faded from the sky and night fell quietly, Xia Jinyuan led his comrades from the hotel’s underground parking lot, driving a van straight to the auction hall.

The auction house, set in the suburbs, seemed very quiet without the bustle of the city, but it was entirely surrounded by heavily armed guards on patrol. The illegal auction was to begin at nine o’clock that night, and the area would be heavily guarded to prevent any disturbances.

Mr. Will, arriving in the village, was vigilant all the way, noticing the strict security. He couldn’t help but worry, but since he was with Noah, he had no way to immediately inform Xia Jinyuan. All he could do was pray that the mercenaries he had hired would discover any threats beforehand and not be detected by Cyril’s men before they even started.

Looking at Noah, who accompanied him, Mr. Will couldn’t help but sneer coldly at his stern expression.

In order to hook Noah and to temporarily convince Cyril of his defection, he had given Cyril all four famous paintings he had once bought in an underground market in Noah’s country.

The four paintings came from the Gardner Botanical Garden. Ninety years ago, thieves disguised as police officers stole thirteen paintings from the museum in a single theft, including one of the thirty-six known works by a 17th-century master, which had remained undiscovered since the theft. No one knew that he had purchased four of the stolen paintings.

This time, he had given all four to Cyril. Cyril, who had an eye for art, upon seeing the paintings, exhibited a greed like that of a ravenous wolf. Taking possession of the paintings, he let out word the next day, which led to tonight’s auction.

He had spent a large sum of money back then. Six years later, the black market value of the paintings had increased thirty-six fold. Given Cyril’s greed, he would sell them to those insanely passionate and wealthy collectors at even higher prices.

Tonight, Cyril only took out two of the paintings for auction. Depending on tonight’s auction results and the collectors’ frenzy, he would re-determine the prices for the other two.

The greedy but shrewd Cyril regarded this auction highly, and with his goatee, he seemed to already envision piles of money stacking up before his eyes.

Noah, stern-faced, had been seething since learning that four of the thirteen paintings stolen from his country in the nineties had ended up in Cyril’s hands and two were to be auctioned off tonight. His mood was as if he’d been dunked in cold water in the dead of winter, impossible to warm up.

The car slowly entered the village, and Noah, with a dark expression, asked Mr. Will once more, ”Are you sure it’s really in his possession? Are you really sure?”

”I’m very sure. You can personally verify whether my information is accurate. Only two paintings are being auctioned off tonight; Cyril is keeping the other two for another auction. You have plenty of time to confirm the truth,” replied Mr. Will casually, pleased at the thought of using the four famous paintings to rid his family of all troubles.

He spoke lightly, but Noah was anything but relaxed. Hearing this, his expression turned furious, and he growled in a low voice, ”You don’t understand anything! The thirteen paintings have been missing for fifteen years. We’ve been searching all this time without a clue!”

”Now we finally have one, and you’re telling me two of the paintings are being auctioned tonight! Once those vampire-like collectors buy them, they’ll disappear again, who knows where!”
