Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

Avery Jane was wondering if it was because she had taken a few more days off last month, causing someone to criticize her behind her back and making it difficult for Joshua Hughes, which led to him asking her to resign. If that was the case, she could overcome it, just as long as Joshua cooperated a bit.

”From now on, you, um, we...” Avery suddenly blushed a little; she didn’t know how to say it out loud.

”What do you want to say, Avery?” Her words were hesitant and stuttering. Joshua found it quite amusing as he lay there with his eyes closed, enjoying the beautiful time they spent together.

Perhaps because of the heat, the scent of their bodies was slowly intensifying, intertwining, and blending into a unique fragrance, like the strongest masculine scent mixed with the most alluring feminine aroma, ambiguous and seductive...

”I mean we shouldn’t always do that, I...” Avery’s face grew even redder. Although it was his right too, it was actually a bit overwhelming for her. She always thought it was because her body wasn’t good enough, but after hearing Emma White and the office girls’ talks, she felt it wasn’t her fault; he was exceptionally gifted and had frightening stamina, which made it really hard for her to keep up.

Joshua turned his head around, looked at her rosy little face, and suddenly realized what she was pondering over. It was truly amusing...

”So how does Avery think it’s more appropriate?” His smile deepened, carrying a hint of charm and elegance.

”I think Friday or Saturday.” Today, he was particularly patient and didn’t rush to refute her immediately. Had he really changed? He didn’t have any objections on this matter? Avery found it quite unbelievable.

”Oh...” Joshua looked at her with a meaningful gaze. Her idea was quite simple; if being worn out on Friday or Saturday meant she could sleep the whole day justifiably, without needing to take leave.

”Anything else?” Avery tried to pull her hand back, not sure whether it was because of the water temperature or some other reason, but his body temperature was rising. Yet he wouldn’t let go, holding her hand in his big palm and playing with it delicately.

Avery listened to his words with a perplexed face. Anything else? What else could there be?

”Avery, do you not love me enough? If you love me enough, how could you want to refuse something so wonderful?” His words carried a note of helplessness. In the balance of love, the one who loves more is always at a disadvantage. If she loved him enough, how could she have such thoughts?

Avery paused for a moment. She had never thought about whether she loved him enough. She did like him, and more and more. It’s just that women’s natural inclination is not to boldly speak of love. That bliss always brought her an overwhelming sense of ecstasy quite close to dying. It’s not that she didn’t like it; it’s just... just, she couldn’t quite explain it. She had brought up the issue merely to resolve her recent lateness problem, with no other intention.

”I-I just don’t want to be late...” Avery muttered, lowering her head. Today Joshua was truly strange, unlike his usual self, making her a bit puzzled. Or perhaps she never really understood him at all.

”Do you think it’s because I love you too much that you make such a request, hmm?” He forced her to look at him, his deep eyes resembling a sky devoid of starlight. She subconsciously licked her lips: ”I-I...”

”Avery, I’m really tired...” He sighed lowly; he had never felt so powerless before. Not everything can be changed or reversed, such as time. He pinched her chin, staring at her unwaveringly with his dark eyes. Loving was exhausting, yet he couldn’t give it up; giving up would bring him a pain akin to death. It wasn’t Avery’s fault; it was his own, which only made him feel more tired.

Avery was shocked by the kind of helplessness and sadness in his eyes that had never been present before. He had never shown such a gaze.

His eyes were captivating. Looking into them always made one feel like they were the strongest whirlpool, drawing you in such that you couldn’t muster the strength to escape. But today, his eyes were like a sea of sorrow, boundless, making her heart palpitate...
