Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

Nora Thompson grabbed Avery Jane’s hand and rushed outside; this was probably the most reckless act of her life.

Emma White finished the check-in process and turned around, but where was she? How could she have vanished when she was here just ten minutes ago?

In the vast hotel lobby, even with people coming and going, it wasn’t impossible to find someone. Yet, Emma White just couldn’t spot Avery Jane, and she let out an anguished scream inside her heart—had she lost her?

A jet-black luxurious car was driving down the road. The handsome, tall man in the back seat had his eyes closed, his thick eyelashes emanating a cold and calm lethal vibe. His fingers elegantly pressed against his brows as if unable to bear the turmoil within his heart. The bodyguard in the front, wearing an earpiece, turned around to quickly report the news to Joshua Hughes.

”Miss White has completed the check-in, but she’s alone. Miss Jane is not with her,” the bodyguard glanced through his sunglasses worriedly at the man in the back seat.

His ink-like eyes seemed to harbor snow accumulated over a thousand years, his pale face taut. Joshua Hughes’ heart began to ache slowly, as if someone had clenched it, causing spasms of pain. He repeatedly told himself that nothing would happen, yet the frigid aura uncontrollably spread from his soles, coursing through his blood, seeping through every pore towards his heart...

Emma White was experiencing a presidential suite for the first time. The legendary top-tier suite, costing over a hundred thousand dollars a night, was indeed luxurious and exquisite, leaving one speechless.

But she had no heart to admire it. In front of her sat her big boss, Joshua Hughes.

This man was like a legendary figure, elusive even within the company. But now she sat across from him, and guessed right, Avery Jane’s sponsor was her—Avery Jane was his lover.

The news was truly explosive, but such sensational news couldn’t be spread around, which was utterly frustrating.

”Where’s Avery Jane?” Joshua Hughes suppressed his urge to dismember this woman and throw her into the sea for the sharks. After all, Avery Jane quite enjoyed playing with her, but if anything happened to Avery Jane this time, he would ensure she never forgets this trip to Sydney.

”President Hughes, I really don’t know. I went to register, and she was waiting at the lobby, but how did she disappear when I turned around? I really don’t know,” Emma White’s heart began to panic; she seemed to have caused trouble.

All personnel had been dispatched to search everywhere, hoping to find her before dark. Joshua Hughes tightly closed his eyes, not knowing what exactly happened. She had forgotten many things now; she had never been to Sydney. Here, she was like a newborn baby, knowing nothing, recognizing no one. Where did she go? What happened?

In one of Sydney’s ubiquitous street parks, Nora Thompson looked at the bewildered Avery Jane. Did she really not have any impression of her?

”Avery Jane, how much can you remember about the past?” She asked hopefully. If she retained any memory, at least she wouldn’t be seen as insane. ”I... I just fell, and I can’t remember many things now. The doctor said it would slowly get better,”

Avery Jane said softly, her intuition telling her she seemed to know this girl because the tone of her voice was familiar, though she couldn’t recall where they had met.

In such a bustling yet strange city, she unexpectedly encountered someone who knew her. In the park, children were playing, their laughter ringing in her ears. Yet her heart felt like a stone sinking into an icy pond, cold and suffocating...

”Avery Jane, I’m not entirely clear about your past, because after graduation I went abroad for university, traveling for several years. But I can confidently tell you your husband is definitely not Joshua Hughes. Your husband died in a car accident over a year ago; his name was Lucas Yates. He was an excellent and compassionate individual whom I greatly respected.” Nora Thompson looked at Avery Jane, her beautiful features seemed to rapidly lose color, even her lips turned bloodless.

”What’s wrong?” Seeing Avery Jane in a trance, as if time had frozen around her, her eyes devoid of the past or future.

”You’re joking with me, aren’t you? Is it...” Avery Jane trembled, her tone changing as she spoke, her world seemed to collapse instantly. Joshua Hughes was her heaven, her earth, the mountain she relied on behind her, but it crumbled in an instant with the few words spoken by this girl, and her world began to fall apart, even the most steadfast mountain behind her wavered.

”Death belongs to life, just as birth does. Lifting your foot is walking, as is putting it down. Avery Jane, as long as this man loves you and you love him, whoever is your husband, whether he is your husband, is happiness for you. But Joshua Hughes, I don’t know if he loves you. I’m not someone who likes to gossip, but Joshua Hughes chose Evelyn Yates, Lucas Yates’ sister, as his fiancée, they’re even about to have a child. Avery Jane, we are friends. In my life, my friends are few, barely countable. We are kindred spirits, so I want to tell you the truth, because no one can erase the truth of events.”

Nora Thompson held Avery Jane’s hand, she didn’t want to say too much, like the things that happened at Hughes Manor, like the means Joshua Hughes used to force her to become his lover, because many truths must be uncovered by herself, and saying too much might overwhelm Avery Jane.
