Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

Her fingers gently traced across his back, this enigmatic man...

”It doesn’t hurt.” The storm of blood and tears in his past, he wouldn’t let her know. Some things are too cruel, and she’s like a well-protected naive child. Someday, she will realize the harshness of this world, but he silently prays for that day to come slower, a little slower.

”How could such a big scar not hurt?” He comforted her, Avery Jane’s eyes looking at the scar, slowly growing moist.

”Avery, quit your job.” Joshua Hughes’s low voice hovered in the steam-filled space, though his words seemed like a suggestion, they always felt like an irresistible command, perhaps that’s innate for this man.

Avery Jane paused: ”Why?”

”Those tasks are too complicated and very dull. Recently I noticed you don’t look well and get tired easily, simply rest at home, alright?” He slightly furrowed his brow, naturally calculating in his mind. Continuing at the company would be like walking into a trap that would cause trouble, and Luis Hughes wouldn’t just let it go.

And if he handed over the Hughes Clan position to him, with his current mindset, it’s impossible to handle such a big company.

Moreover, he has some unresolved matters, now is not the time to retreat.

If Luis Hughes didn’t have so many thoughts, if his mother weren’t his mother, relinquishing this position wouldn’t be impossible. But all of this seems predetermined, just as he would encounter Avery Jane by chance, it’s an inescapable destiny.

She looked at him, lowered her head, stopped the massaging motions, and sighed. She was so young, does that mean she has to live such a boring life at home all the time?

”There’s nothing wrong with staying at home. We can live at the Hughes Family’s old estate; you’ve been there before and liked it. It’s fun there, you can ride horses, garden, and play with hawks. I’ll leave the entire Hughes Family for you to manage, it’s busier than the company.” Joshua Hughes actually kept Avery Jane from returning to the old estate to prevent any possible triggers. But some things can’t be avoided; someday she would truly take the position of Mrs. Hughes and manage the entire Hughes Family. It’s better to let her adapt now; evading once more isn’t a long-term plan.

”You always supported my working outside, why have you changed now? Is it because I’m not doing well, or has someone been gossiping?” Avery Jane suddenly reacted, wondering if her frequent leave requests recently had caused him trouble.

”No, of course not.” She was indeed overthinking it, Joshua Hughes held her hand and gently kissed the back of her fair hand.

”Hughes Clan is mine, which means it’s yours too, you can do whatever you like. I’m just a bit worried.” Joshua Hughes smiled faintly, and Avery Jane’s heart skipped a beat. He rarely smiles, but when he does, it has the power to enchant.

She couldn’t remember how things were before the marriage, but falling in love with someone after marriage, wouldn’t that be a bit strange?

Joshua Hughes looked at her appearance, feeling a pang of heartache. He naturally knew that returning to the Hughes Family’s old estate wasn’t as enjoyable as the office with her daily chirping girlfriends, yet it was a tumultuous time now, he didn’t want her in any danger.

”I won’t. I still want to keep working, and in the future, I won’t take leave anymore.” Avery Jane firmly stated, wanting her own work and a bit of personal space. Even if she loves this man dearly, revolving around him all the time would not only exhaust her, but one day he would tire of it too.

”Avery, what should I do with you?” Joshua Hughes didn’t utter the words, only sighed inwardly. What should he do with her, as too many unknowns steadily approached, each carrying unfathomable power. This might indeed be called fate.

But where does fate intend to take them? Joshua Hughes held her hand, placing one hand on his shoulder, the other over his heart, the strong, rhythmic heartbeat...
