Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 190, Ancient God, Holy Profession

“The secret discovered is this skeleton in the photos?” Lu Fan frowned and asked.

Tu Jing nodded and said, “Yes, this skeleton has quite the background. You can look at the other photos. Besides this skeleton, about five hundred kilometres behind it, they also discovered a bronze temple.”

Lu Fan flipped through the rest of the photos. Indeed, very far from the skeleton, a mountain peak reaching into the clouds could be clearly seen, with a temple situated on top of it.

The temple was shimmering with golden light, making it impossible to see what was inside. The light emanating from the temple also covered the entire area, filling the five hundred kilometres between the skeleton and the temple with dazzling golden light, seeming both holy and bizarre.

“What’s inside this temple?” Lu Fan curiously asked.

Tu Jing shrugged and smiled. “Who knows? The golden light emitted by the temple is very strange. The Moore Family has sent many experts to try to approach the temple, to see if there’s any Secret Realms or Dungeon Instance there, but all these people never returned. Even a Fourth Profession Player from their Family went but never came back.”

“Even a Fourth Profession Player did not manage to come back?” Lu Fan could not help but exclaim.

Fourth Profession Players were undoubtedly among the most powerful people in the world. They could come and go freely in most of the Wilderness, except for some Forbidden Areas.

If even Fourth Profession Players fell in this area, the danger Level of the area covered by this golden light must be comparable to a Forbidden Area. In fact, even without mentioning the bizarre temple, just the enormous skeleton in front of it, that seemed to belong to an angel, was enough to make people fearful.

It had to be noted that Giant Dragons were considered God-like beings, and angels were the same.

Angels, like Giant Dragons, were beings that only existed in mythology. Such a huge skeleton, with signs of resurrection, was very concerning in itself.

Tu Jing nodded and continued. “That’s right, even a Fourth Profession Player fell there. So, the Moore Family had to temporarily stop exploring the area and started researching this huge skeleton instead.”

“My spy mixed in with their people and got a lot of new intelligence about this area.”

“First, the golden light emitted by the bronze temple has caused mutations in the surrounding Monsters. Some Monsters have become stronger and more frenzied, and after being identified with Appraisal Eye, their names all have the suffix ‘Holy Mountain Puppet’.”

Hearing this, Lu Fan’s eyes suddenly widened.

Tu Jing smiled and continued, “Sounds familiar, right? This huge skeleton is very similar to ‘that thing’ in the Extremely Far North Ice Plains. Both can’t be identified using Appraisal Eye, both are changing the surrounding environment and Monsters, turning them into some kind of puppets. Both have created a Forbidden Area that people can’t enter; and both show signs of awakening, as if something terrible is about to return.”

At this point, Tu Jing took a deep breath and solemnly said, “I think this is truly a major discovery. It seems that a small corner of this world’s secrets has been uncovered.”

Lu Fan also immediately felt an invisible pressure coming over him. He remained silent for a long time before asking, “So, what exactly are these things? Is there no one who can explain?”

“No one.” Tu Jing answered very quickly and decisively. After a pause, he continued, “I’ve already sent all the data about ‘that thing’ in the Extremely Far North Ice Plains, as well as all the information from the Moore Family about the Holy Mountain Ruin, to our Dragon Country’s scholars. They’ve already started researching but nothing truly concrete has turned up. Regarding these mysterious beings, the scholars speculate that there must be more than two in this world. In the nine-tenths of unknown territories, there might be even more of such beings. To more easily refer to these beings that might appear in the future, the scholars have given them the name of ‘Ancient Gods’.”

“Ancient Gods…” Lu Fan pondered the meaning of this name and felt it to be quite accurate. No one knows when these huge corpses were laid here, where they came from, or what kind of power they possess.

What was certain was that their existence must date back to a more ancient era.

At the same time, given their enormous bodies, their ability to affect the environment and surrounding Monsters just by existing, and their ability to create a Forbidden Area, it was not exaggerating to call them ‘Gods’.

There was a brief silence here, and Lu Fan began to flip through the other photos, making another discovery.

In the later photos was a scene of devastation, with dozens of corpses laid out. At the same time, in the photos, a figure enveloped in golden light could be seen, with wings made of golden light appearing behind his back, standing in mid-air like a real angel.

However, from the blood stains all over him, it was clear that the many corpses on the scene were likely directly related to him.

“What’s this? A Monster from the Holy Mountain Ruin?” Lu Fan looked at the blurry figure in the photo, feeling that although the figure looked like a person, his aura was clearly different from a Human.

Tu Jing glanced at the photo and said, “Not really a Monster… This photo was just taken yesterday. It’s actually quite bizarre. The person in this photo is the Fourth Profession Player from the Moore Family, who disappeared in the Forbidden Area of the Holy Mountain Ruin. He had just reappeared yesterday, and his appearance was very different from before. The biggest change was the appearance of those wings behind him.”

“It seems he was invaded by some mysterious power. Besides him, several other people from the Moore Family who went with him were in the same condition. They came out of the Forbidden Area together and started massacring the Moore Family members who were researching the Ancient God’s skeleton. In the end, it took three other Fourth Profession Players from the Moore Family to suppress this man, driving him and the others back into the Forbidden Area near the bronze temple.”

“However, during the fight, the three Fourth Profession Players from the Moore Family, they had discovered that the opponents had completely turned into some kind of Monster. Appraisal Eye could work on them, and their names were now followed by the suffix ‘Holy Mountain Slave’.”

[Holy Mountain Slave? Different from Holy Mountain Puppet?] Lu Fan immediately understood that it seems like the strength of the Ancient God’s invasive power varied, causing different changes in those corrupted by it.

Holy Mountain Slaves knew to escape, so their intelligence must be far above that of Holy Mountain Puppets.

[Wait, if there are Holy Mountain Slaves around the Ancient God that appeared in the Star Strip Country, by the same logic, wouldn’t there be similar beings around the Fallen Corpse Ancient God?] Lu Fan’s expression immediately became more solemn.

Tu Jing also saw that Lu Fan had realised this point, so he said. “That’s right, I thought the same. Actually, Fallen Corpse Puppets aren’t that big of a deal, they’re just walking corpses. But if Fallen Corpse Slaves appear, those exploring the Ancient Gods might run into trouble.”

“Fortunately, the Ancient God on Star Strip Country’s side faced this problem first, which gives us a warning. When you go on exploration Missions with Old Lui again, be extra careful about whether there are any Fallen Corpse Slaves appearing.”

Lu Fan nodded and said, “En, I understand.”

Tu Jing pushed the documents in front of him away and rubbed his temples, saying, “Basically, that’s the situation. I’m telling you all this to make you more careful in your upcoming exploration Missions.”

Suddenly, as if remembering something, Tu Jing added, “Oh, right, one more thing. You need to be extra careful of Charles, the representative from the Star Strip Country.”

“What do you mean?” Lu Fan did not understand, then thought, [Wasn’t Charles called back to the Holy Mountain Ruin? Later when the Holy Mountain Slaves appeared and started a massacre around the Holy Mountain Ruin, what happened to Charles?]

Tu Jing, as if knowing what Lu Fan was thinking, he directly said, “Charles seems to have gained some benefits after being influenced by the Ancient God’s power. After the Holy Mountain Slaves came out of the Forbidden Area, although they killed many people from the Moore Family, when they saw Charles, they chose to spare him. In fact, they had given him something called ‘Holy Land Essence’.”

“With it, Charles’ Profession has changed. Originally he was a Hidden Profession Battle Priest, but now he has become a Holy Type Profession.”

“I heard that he was already incredibly strong before, and now, having changed from a Hidden Profession to another even more powerful Hidden Profession, his strength has increased by several folds!”

“Although the Moore Family has suffered heavy losses due to the Ancient God incident, even losing a Fourth Profession Player who became a Holy Mountain Slave, the entire Moore Family does not regret excavating and exploring the Holy Mountain Ruin. Reason being Charles’ change in Profession.”

“The Moore Family feels that it was worth it, to trade in the lives of a Fourth Profession Player and so many people for Charles’ current Profession. You can imagine just how overpowered his new Profession must be.”

“I originally wanted to dig up more intelligence about Charles’ new Profession for you, but the Moore Family were quick to act, and they kept Charles’ new Profession a closely guarded secret. They found a well hidden Dungeon Instance for him to quickly adapt to the power of his new Profession.”

“My spy could not find out more, so there’s nothing I can do. When you get to the National Trial Secret Realm, you must be careful of Charles. He will definitely be your most troublesome opponent in the National Trial Secret Realm!”

Indeed. He was already a strong fighter from a major country, and now, he had gained power bestowed by this mysterious being, an Ancient God. Charles’ strength should be in a league of his own among the representatives of the 23 countries.

However, Lu Fan just smiled at this and said to Tu Jing, “There’s no such thing as the most troublesome opponent for me. No matter what kind of power the representative from Star Strip Country has gained, I will definitely be number one!”
