Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 169, Spies

Translator: Silavin

[Damn it! It’s too late!] Lu Fan didn’t feel the sense of crisis dissipate even though he had retreated in time. Clearly, the range and power of the Fire Mage God’s Ultimate Blaze was extraordinary.

Lu Fan was indeed exceptionally strong, but he was only Level 32. If he were to be hit head-on by a Third Profession Mage’s Skill, he might not be able to withstand it. Moreover, there were so many people present, his Auntie, Qin Qiu, and the others were not far away from here.

Lu Fan immediately wanted to use his spiritual connection to have Xiao Cui transform into her Divine Tree Of Life Form and cast Eternal Guardian to save everyone.

Just at this moment, a pillar of fire suddenly rose from somewhere in the academy.

That pillar of fire turned into a long Dragon across the sky in the blink of an eye, arriving above the Fire Mage God’s head.

This strange phenomenon made Lu Fan squint his eyes as he looked towards that pillar of fire. He suddenly realised it was actually a staff, carrying fierce flames, reaching the sky above the Fire Mage God in an instant.

[That staff. Heaven Incinerator? Is the principal taking action!?] Before Lu Fan could be surprised, Heaven Incinerator thrust downwards, directly piercing through the Fire Mage God’s chest!

Accompanied by a painful howl from the Fire Mage God, the flames on his body seemed to be absorbed by the staff, gradually dimming, while the flames on the staff grew ever more vigorous.

In just a moment, his howling gradually ceased.

The Fire Mage God had now turned into a human-shaped charcoal, smoking all over, with no sign of life.

Although he was not done casting his self-destruct Skill, Ultimate Blaze, his body could not withstand the casting process of the Skill and he was completely burned to ashes. Now, he would crumble at a touch.

After eliminating the crisis, Heaven Incinerator was pulled out of the Fire Mage God’s body and flew back to the sky above Villa No. 1, cleanly absorbing all the flames in the villa.

Even so, the power of Fallen Sun had already levelled the area where Villa No. 1 stood, leaving only a deep pit and charred bricks.

Seeing this, the students who had been frantically trying to flee finally calmed down and stopped panicking.

Heaven Incinerator then flew away from here, presumably returning to the principal’s hand.

After recalling Xiao Ye, Lu Fan returned to Han Ke and the others, confirming they were alright before finally feeling relieved.

At this time, Jian Ying from Villa No. 2 had long since come out of her villa. Seeing Villa No. 1 decimated, she was shocked, and only slightly relieved after seeing Lu Fan and the others safe. She quickly came over to ask what had happened.

Lu Fan did not know why this had suddenly happened either, but he thought that the University should be able to give an explanation soon.

Sure enough, in less than a minute, an electric arc streaked across the nearby sky, and Zhao Shengming, wearing pyjamas, arrived. As for the other University teachers, they had all been awakened and were rushing here.

Seeing Villa No. 1 destroyed, Zhao Shengming’s eyebrows twitched. After scanning around with his eyes and finding Lu Fan and the others nearby, he quickly turned into an electric arc again and came to Lu Fan’s side to inquire about the situation.

Lu Fan briefly recounted what had happened. Zhao Shengming’s eyes widened, his tone in complete disbelief. “Someone dares to assassinate you in Dragon Capital University!? This is simply inconceivable, no wonder the principal was so angry and personally took action… Who is the one who attacked you? Where is his body?”

Lu Fan led Zhao Shengming to the Fire Mage God’s corpse to identify the attacker.

At the same time, Lu Fan also said that this was definitely one of the University leaders, as he had recognised him.

Learning that it was a University leader, Zhao Shengming was even more surprised and angry.

However, the body had been turned to charcoal, and there were three Fire Mage Gods among the University leaders. To determine exactly who it was would require further confirmation.

Zhao Shengming had the teachers who had arrived disperse the students. He continued to dispatch other University teachers to inspect the area around these thirty villas and protect the students’ safety.

He soon used a tool to collect the charred corpse and made an immediate summons to all the University leaders to uncover the attacker’s identity. He needed to find out why this person had attacked Villa No. 1 as soon as possible.

As for Lu Fan and the others, they were invited by Jian Ying to temporarily reside in Villa No. 2.

Because this assisination attempt had alarmed the whole University, basically all the teachers of the University were nearby, so Lu Fan did not need to worry about another attack.

By early morning, this matter had a rough conclusion.

The identity of that Fire Mage God had been discovered. He was an honorary vice principal, who had previously published numerous papers on the Mage Profession in various institutions. He enjoyed great fame in Dragon Country, and had been invited by Dragon Capital University to serve as an honorary vice principal. He had also contributed a lot to the University in his daily work.

His Level and Combat Power were even above Zhao Shengming. He was Level 81, and was one of the strongest in the University.

A Mage God of this Level, once he took action, his Skill Power was comparable to a Forbidden Spell. If not for the fact that few people knew about Lu Fan’s Jade Dragon King, one Skill from him might have really wiped out Lu Fan’s whole group.

Clearly, he was aiming to kill Lu Fan, and the reason behind this was worth investigating.

However, this Fire Mage God had obviously hidden himself very well. Otherwise, he would not have been able to lurk in Dragon Capital University for five years without anyone noticing anything unusual.

Currently, the reason why he wanted to assassinate Lu Fan, and under whose orders he was following, remained unknown. Even though Zhao Shengming had led people to thoroughly search his residence, not a single clue appeared.

However, what they were certain of was his target, which had to be none other than Lu Fan.

Lu Fan had just been selected as Dragon Country’s representative, and in the blink of an eye, there was an attempt at his life. This could not be a coincidence.

Previously, there had been examples of representatives from other countries being assassinated before the National Trial Secret Realm, but the assassin this time was in Dragon Capital University! This was something no one could have anticipated!

The investigation of this matter reached this point but all clues had been cut off. Nothing further could be found. Whether this Fire Mage God had any accomplices remained unknown to everyone.

However, since there was one assassin, there might inevitably be a second one.

This matter also gave the University leaders quite a headache.

The next morning, sunlight fell, shining through the windows into the principal’s office.

The principal stood by the window, like a stone statue, pondering how to prevent future assassination attempts like the one that had occurred last night.

“In the coming month, more assassins might come. This failure might make their next assassination attempt even more dangerous. Although the entire Dragon Capital University is being covered under my skills, if I act a step too late, the consequences will be unimaginable… That is unless I personally closely protect Lu Fan. But, I’m entangled with other trivial matters and can’t guarantee my attention will be on him at all times…”

“Haaaaa, I thought Dragon Capital University was a safe haven, but even this place has been infiltrated. We have trouble with both internal and external…” The principal let out a long sigh. Just at this moment, a Transport Array suddenly opened up in the principal’s office.

Cold air gushed out of the Transport Array, mixed with frost, allowing the principal to know where the other end was connected to without turning their head. Still, the principal turned around, sat back in their seat, and watched as a short-haired, muscular man stepped out and closed the Transport Array behind him.

“Long time no see.” Tu Jing stretched his body, then sat down on the leather sofa in the office in a commanding posture. He was partially lying down in a comfortable position, looking very content.

“It’s great to be back… That godforsaken Extremely Far North Ice Plains is so cold and dry. We have no other form of entertainment there. Staying there is truly worse than being in prison. I really want to switch places with you. Why don’t you go watch over the Extremely Far North Ice Plains for me, and I’ll be the principal for a few days, how about that?” Tu Jing spoke to the principal in a very familiar tone, clearly showing they were old friends who had known each other for many years.

The principal seemed quite displeased with Tu Jing’s sudden visit and grumpily said, “Did you get my consent before setting the Transport Array coordinates directly to my office?”

“Get your consent?” Tu Jing was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter, “Was I too abrupt in coming here? Alright, I’ll be more mindful next time and have someone notify you in advance.”

Hearing this, the principal’s tone softened a bit. “By the way, why have you returned to Dragon Capital University? I heard that the Extremely Far North Ice Plains isn’t very peaceful now, shouldn’t you be unable to leave?”

“Indeed, I shouldn’t be able to leave!” Tu Jing replied while looking around the principal’s office, “I’ve wanted to come back personally for a while to see you and that Dragon Tamer. But you know about the messy affairs in the Extremely Far North Ice Plains. They’re getting more and more bizarre. Yesterday, I was originally going to have one of my subordinates deliver a gift to our Dragon Tamer, but that’s beside the point.”

After a pause, Tu Jing said with great interest, “However, I heard that something happened at Dragon Capital University yesterday. Our Dragon Tamer’s residence got blown up by one of your vice principals. How interesting.”

The principal remained silent for a long time before saying in a low voice, “It was due to my lack of oversight.”

“What does this have to do with you?” Tu Jing laughed aloud, “That person was already in the University when you became its principal. At most, this could be considered a problem left over by the previous principal. But then again, this can’t really be blamed on the previous principal either. This must be the doing of the other countries. They’re schemes run quite deep, planting chess pieces in Dragon Capital University early on, all in preparation for this National Trial. I believe it’s not just Dragon Capital University. Spies might be found in the other top ten Universities as well.”

The principal nodded slightly and said. “I understand what you’re saying. I’ve already had Zhao Shengming investigate. We’ll dig out all the problematic individuals.”

Tu Jing added. “Not only you will act. Those from the other Universities will take action after learning about last night’s events. But, it will not be easy to dig out all their spies. At least, no one can purge all suspicious personnel from the University in just a year or two.”

“So?” The principal knew that Tu Jing’s personal visit was not just to discuss this matter.

Tu Jing smiled and said, “Why don’t I help you share some of your worries? How about letting me take care of that Dragon Tamer kid for a month?”
