Yandere Stream

The cursor continued to blink on the screen.

Its steady rhythm seemed louder than it should have been, each pulse echoing through the strange room like the ticking of a clock counting down toward something inevitable. The messages remained unchanged, glowing against the white screen.

THE ORIGINAL STORY HAS BEEN FOUND.

THE FIRST READER HAS AWAKENED.

THE STORY NEEDS A NEW AUTHOR.

Beneath them sat a single line separated by empty space.

EDEN, WRITE THE NEXT PAGE.

Eden stared at those words for a long time.

What unsettled him most was the silence. There were no cryptic voices whispering explanations. No monstrous eyes watching from beyond reality. No mysterious figures emerging from shadows to offer another impossible answer. For the first time since this endless nightmare had begun, nobody was telling him what the words meant.

There was only the computer.

And the blank page waiting beneath it.

Slowly, Eden lowered himself into the chair. The floating pages suspended throughout the room remained motionless, hanging in the air like frozen fragments of time. They seemed to be watching him. The entire story felt paused, holding its breath as it waited for his next move.

Aria remained behind him, saying nothing.

He appreciated that more than he could express.

His fingers hovered above the keyboard.

For years, writing had been the one thing he understood. He had written worlds into existence and erased them just as easily. He had created heroes, villains, lovers, and monsters. He had written deaths that made him cry and reunions that made him smile. Entire universes had lived and died beneath his fingertips.

Yet now, when confronted with a truly blank page, his mind was empty.

The irony almost made him laugh.

”Of course,” he muttered.

Aria tilted her head. ”What?”

Eden stared at the blinking cursor.

”I finally get the chance to write something real.”

His hands remained suspended over the keys.

”And I have absolutely no idea what to say.”

A faint smile touched Aria’s face as she walked around the chair and stood beside him.

”Maybe that’s the point.”

Eden glanced at her.

”You only say things like that when you know something.”

”I usually know something.”

”That isn’t comforting.”

”No,” she admitted. ”It really isn’t.”

Eden looked back at the screen.

The problem wasn’t that he couldn’t write.

The problem was that he could write anything.

Throughout his life, writing had always offered an escape. If reality became unbearable, he could create another one. If someone died, he could resurrect them. If he made a mistake, he could rewrite the Chapter and pretend it never happened.

But this page felt different.

This page wasn’t asking him to invent a world.

It was asking him to make a choice.

And choices carried weight that stories never could.

Stories could survive endless revisions.

Choices could not.

Taking a slow breath, Eden placed his fingers on the keyboard.

”All right.”

The cursor blinked.

He typed.

Eden opened his eyes.

Then he stopped.

Nothing happened.

He frowned.

Aria leaned closer to read the sentence.

”That’s what you came up with?”

”I’m warming up.”

”You’ve written better.”

”I’ve written worse.”

With a sigh, he deleted the line.

The page returned to blank white emptiness.

After another moment, he tried again.

Eden walked toward the door.

Still nothing.

He deleted that as well.

Then he typed a third sentence.

Eden chose to leave.

The lights flickered.

Eden immediately froze.

Beside him, Aria straightened.

The change wasn’t dramatic. There were no explosions or collapsing worlds. No terrible creature emerged from the darkness. Instead, one of the floating pages quietly turned by itself.

Then another.

Then another.

A soft rustling filled the room as thousands of suspended pages began flipping in unison.

Eden slowly looked back toward the monitor.

His sentence remained.

Eden chose to leave.

New words began appearing beneath it.

Not words he typed.

Not words Aria wrote.

Letters formed one by one.

WHERE?

Eden’s stomach tightened.

”I didn’t write that.”

”I know,” Aria said quietly.

Another line appeared.

WHY?

Then another.

WHO ARE YOU LEAVING BEHIND?

Eden swallowed.

The questions felt personal.

Too personal.

They weren’t asking about the story.

They were asking about him.

His thoughts immediately drifted toward Luna. Then Aria. Then every version of himself scattered across countless worlds. He remembered graves, empty houses, failed rescues, impossible resurrections, and every desperate attempt he’d made to undo loss.

A final question appeared.

WHAT WILL YOU DO IF THERE IS NO ONE LEFT TO SAVE?

For a long time, Eden simply stared.

Then he reached toward the keyboard.

Aria caught his wrist before he could type.

”Wait.”

He turned toward her.

Unlike before, she didn’t look afraid.

She looked sad.

”You don’t have to answer everything it asks.”

Eden glanced at the screen.

”Then why give me the page?”

”Maybe it didn’t.”

Her eyes remained fixed on the questions.

”Maybe something wants you to believe it did.”

Understanding settled across Eden’s face.

”The Reader.”

Aria didn’t respond.

She didn’t need to.

Eden gently pulled free of her grip.

”Then let’s find out.”

He placed his hands on the keyboard again.

Instead of answering the questions, he typed:

Eden looked at Aria.

The words remained.

Nothing else happened.

Encouraged, he continued.

He wanted to ask her what she thought he should write.

The cursor moved to the next line.

Then stopped.

Waiting.

Eden suddenly understood something.

The story wasn’t asking for action.

It was waiting for intention.

He turned away from the monitor.

”What would you write?”

Aria stared at him for several seconds before answering.

”I don’t know.”

”You’re the Reader.”

”I was.”

”What’s the difference?”

Her eyes drifted toward the blank space beneath his unfinished sentence.

”A Reader waits to see what happens,” she said quietly.

Then she looked back at him.

”An Author decides what happens.”

Eden considered those words.

”And what are you now?”

A small smile touched her lips.

”That’s what I’m trying to figure out.”

Before either of them could continue, another voice interrupted.

”You shouldn’t write her.”

Both of them spun around.

The little girl stood among the floating pages.

Barefoot.

Silent.

Unmoving.

She looked exactly as she always had.

Eden slowly rose from his chair.

”You.”

The girl nodded.

”I remembered.”

Aria’s expression changed instantly.

”You’re the first Reader.”

The girl shook her head.

”No.”

Her eyes settled on Eden.

”I was the first thing that looked.”

A chill crawled through Eden.

”That’s different.”

”Very different.”

The girl walked toward them. The pages drifted aside as if making room for her.

”Looking isn’t reading.”

Eden frowned.

”Then what did you do?”

The girl smiled.

”I noticed.”

The answer sounded absurdly simple.

Yet something about it felt important.

She pointed toward the computer.

”That was enough.”

Eden looked at the blank page.

”So the story became real because someone noticed it?”

”No.”

The girl shook her head.

”The story existed because it could exist.”

Then she pointed directly at him.

”You made it real because you chose.”

Eden felt his pulse quicken.

”But now,” she continued, ”you’re trying to write something that already wants to happen.”

His face went cold.

”What does that mean?”

The girl’s smile faded.

”It means you’re not the first Author.”

Silence filled the room.

Even the floating pages seemed to stop moving.

Aria stepped forward.

”Then who is?”

The little girl looked upward.

For the first time, fear appeared on her face.

”I don’t know.”

A sound echoed above them.

Not a voice.

A heartbeat.

Thump.

Every page trembled.

Thump.

The computer screen went black.

Thump.

Every source of light vanished.

Darkness swallowed the room.

Instinctively, Eden reached out and found Aria’s hand. Her fingers tightened around his.

For several long seconds, nothing existed except darkness and that distant heartbeat.

Then the monitor suddenly flashed back to life.

A message filled the entire screen.

YOU ARE WRITING TOO EARLY.

Eden stared.

Another sentence appeared.

THE FIRST PAGE HAS NOT BEEN WRITTEN YET.

Aria’s voice trembled.

”That’s impossible.”

Eden looked at her.

”Why?”

”Because we found it.”

The little girl slowly shook her head.

”No.”

She sounded frightened.

”You found the place where it remembers being found.”

Cold dread settled into Eden’s chest.

The screen changed again.

A new document opened.

At the top appeared a title.

THE FIRST PAGE

Beneath it sat a single sentence.

Eden immediately recognized it.

He had seen it countless times before.

In notebooks.

In forgotten memories.

In the deepest layers of the story.

The words appeared exactly as he remembered.

A character opened his eyes before the author knew there was a story.

”That’s it,” Eden whispered. ”That’s the first page.”

The girl shook her head.

”No.”

The sentence began changing.

Letters shifted and rearranged themselves.

A reader opened her eyes before the author knew there was a story.

The screen flickered.

Then again.

A world opened its eyes before anyone knew there was a story.

The room became deathly silent.

One final change occurred.

The words settled into their final form.

Something opened its eyes before there was anyone to call it a story.

Eden couldn’t breathe.

Beside him, Aria squeezed his hand.

”What is that?”

He didn’t answer.

Because somewhere deep beneath every memory, beneath every death, every resurrection, every impossible world and broken reality, something stirred.

A memory.

Not a person.

Not a place.

Not a book.

A sound.

Breathing.

The first breath.

A breath that existed before Eden.

Before Luna.

Before Aria.

Before Readers.

Before Authors.

Before stories.

His eyes widened.

”I remember.”

The little girl stared at him.

”What?”

Eden couldn’t look away from the screen.

”I wasn’t the first character.”

His voice barely rose above a whisper.

”I wasn’t the first Reader either.”

The computer immediately began typing on its own.

A final sentence appeared.

EDEN WAS THE FIRST ONE TO REMEMBER.

The screen exploded into pure white light.

Somewhere beyond the room, beyond the pages, beyond every layer of reality they had crossed, laughter echoed through the darkness.

Not mocking.

Not cruel.

Relieved.

As if something had been waiting an impossibly long time for this moment.

Eden stood frozen as understanding slowly began to dawn.

The story had never been asking who wrote the first page.

It had never been asking who the first character was.

It had never even been asking who the first Reader might be.

From the very beginning, there had only been one question.

Who opened their eyes first?
