Yandere Stream

The world began to move upward. Not forward and not backward, but upward. Eden had no idea how such a thing was possible. There was no sky beneath the endless ocean of pages and no ceiling above them, yet everything around him was being pulled toward something he couldn’t see. Pages tore free from the distance and spiraled into the darkness overhead while books lifted from invisible shelves. Fragments of entire worlds flashed past him—cities he had lived in, forests he had died in, rooms he had forgotten, and faces he hadn’t seen in years. Some existed for only a heartbeat before vanishing.

Aria’s hand tightened around his as the ground beneath them cracked again. A long fracture split through the pages and spread outward like lightning. She told him not to let go, and Eden immediately promised that he wouldn’t. Nearby, the other Eden remained beside the desk, staring upward. For the first time since Eden had met him, he looked completely powerless. That alone was enough to make Eden uneasy.

Eden stepped toward him and demanded answers. The other Eden had claimed to be the Reader, the one who had been reading his story all this time, yet now he stood there in silence. When Eden finally asked who was above them, the man looked at him with an expression Eden had never seen before and admitted that he didn’t know. The answer stopped him cold. When Eden questioned how that was possible, the other Eden confessed that he had spent longer than Eden could imagine trying to discover the truth.

Above them, the enormous hand moved again. One finger pressed against the invisible surface of their reality, and the pressure alone was enough to bend the entire landscape. Aria stumbled as the world groaned beneath them, but Eden caught her before she fell. Her face had gone pale as she stared upward. She explained that a Reader needed a story, something to observe and understand from outside the narrative. Another crushing force descended, shattering the other Eden’s desk into pieces. Aria never looked away from the sky as she spoke. A Reader existed outside the story, she said, but whatever was above them didn’t need a story at all.

Eden felt his stomach tighten and asked what that thing wanted. Aria finally looked at him before quietly giving her answer. It wanted to be real.

The words hung between them long after she said them. Then the hand disappeared. For a brief moment, everything became still. Eden almost believed it was over. Then the sky opened.

It didn’t crack. It opened, as though someone had pulled apart the top layer of reality itself. Beyond it was another room. Eden could see a ceiling, a desk, a lamp, and a person sitting in a chair. The figure held a book in their hands. Even from this impossible distance, Eden recognized it immediately. It was his book, identical to the one that had been sitting on the desk beneath them.

The person slowly turned a page.

Everything stopped.

The wind vanished. The falling pages froze. The trembling floor became still. Even Aria seemed unable to breathe. Eden stared upward as the figure lifted a hand. A pen rested between their fingers. Then they began to write.

Words appeared across the sky.

EDEN LOOKED UP.

Eden’s heart dropped into his stomach. He looked down at his own hands, but the words changed before he could speak.

EDEN REALIZED HE WAS BEING WATCHED.

A chill ran through him. Aria grabbed his arm, but Eden could barely hear her. More words appeared.

EDEN WAS AFRAID.

His jaw tightened immediately. He refused to move.

The sentence remained.

Then another appeared.

EDEN DID NOT WANT TO BE AFRAID.

Something about the writing felt wrong. It wasn’t simply because it described him. It was because it was describing things he hadn’t done yet. He looked toward Aria and asked if she could see the words. She nodded. When he asked if she could read them, she said yes. His eyes widened immediately. If she could read them, then surely she could see who was writing them.

But Aria shook her head.

She explained that whoever was writing wasn’t inside the story.

Eden looked upward again. The person in the distant room turned another page, paused, and then continued writing. A new sentence appeared across the sky.

ARIA LOOKED AT EDEN.

Aria whispered his name. Before she could continue, another line appeared.

ARIA WAS ABOUT TO TELL HIM THE TRUTH.

She immediately stopped speaking.

Eden turned toward her. His heart was pounding now. He demanded to know what truth she was hiding, but she couldn’t answer. The words continued forming above them.

ARIA KNEW SOMETHING EDEN DID NOT.

Eden begged her to tell him, but tears filled her eyes. She looked away and admitted that she couldn’t. When he asked why, her voice broke as she confessed that she wasn’t allowed to.

Almost immediately, another sentence appeared.

ARIA COULD NOT TELL EDEN THE TRUTH.

Eden stared at the sky. Something inside him snapped.

A loose page floated past him, and he grabbed it without thinking. He crumpled it in his fist and threw it upward. The page vanished into the darkness. Then he turned toward the other Eden and reminded him that Readers were supposed to choose. The other Eden nodded cautiously. Eden pointed toward the writing overhead and declared that he was choosing nothing.

The other Eden’s expression changed instantly.

Eden continued, insisting that he wasn’t going to do what the words demanded. He refused to look upward and closed his eyes.

The words stopped.

Silence filled the world. ℴ

Slowly, Eden opened his eyes again. Nothing had changed. A faint smile appeared on his face.

For a moment, he thought he had won.

Aria stared at him before suddenly laughing. There was no humor in it. She was terrified. When Eden asked what was wrong, she explained that he still didn’t understand. The story didn’t need him to obey. It only needed him to react.

Eden looked up again.

A new sentence appeared.

EDEN REALIZED THAT ARIA WAS RIGHT.

He froze.

The sentence changed.

EDEN WAS ANGRY.

Then another followed.

EDEN TRIED TO FIGHT THE AUTHOR.

His fists tightened immediately. The other Eden quietly warned him not to do it. Eden demanded to know why. The answer came with a sadness that made his stomach sink.

Because that was exactly what it wanted.

When Eden asked what the Author wanted, the other Eden looked toward the distant room and answered that it wanted a story. Eden stared at him and asked what would happen if he refused to give it one.

The other Eden smiled sadly.

Then it would create one itself.

The world instantly went dark.

A sound echoed behind them.

A door opening.

Eden turned.

A little girl stood there. She looked six years old, with dark hair, small hands, and a painfully familiar face. His breath caught in his throat. For a moment he genuinely thought he was looking at Aria.

The girl smiled and greeted him.

Beside him, the older Aria went completely still.

The child stepped closer and said she had missed him. Eden couldn’t speak. The older Aria immediately told him not to listen. The girl turned toward her and calmly replied that she didn’t get to decide anymore. Then she faced Eden again and revealed something that made his chest tighten.

The woman beside him wasn’t his daughter.

Eden demanded to know who she was. The girl only smiled and claimed that he already knew. He denied it, but she insisted he had seen her before. As Eden studied her face, a memory surfaced.

The First Reader.

The little boy.

The first child who had claimed to be a Reader.

But this wasn’t him.

This was a girl.

She tilted her head and reminded him that she had once told him she was the first Reader. Eden immediately called her a liar. She admitted it without hesitation.

Then he asked who she really was.

The girl smiled.

She was the first character.

The world seemed to fall silent.

Even the other Eden looked shocked.

Eden repeated the words, unable to believe them. The girl calmly explained that she had been the first thing ever written. She stepped closer and told him that she existed before Eden, before the Authors, and before the Readers. Finally, she pointed at herself and declared that she had been the first thing anyone had ever imagined.

Eden stared at her and demanded to know who had imagined her.

The girl smiled.

She didn’t know.

When Eden asked how she could exist without knowing that answer, she explained that she existed because she had been read.

His heart sank.

By who?

The girl slowly looked upward.

At the person sitting in the distant room.

She quietly suggested that he already knew.

Eden followed her gaze. The figure holding the book slowly raised their head. For the first time, he saw their face.

His breath disappeared.

It wasn’t his face. It wasn’t Luna’s, Aria’s, or his father’s. It belonged to a stranger. An ordinary middle-aged man with tired eyes and a faint smile. He looked like someone Eden could have passed on the street without ever remembering.

And yet Eden knew him.

Not from life.

Not from stories.

From somewhere deeper.

Somewhere before memory.

The stranger looked directly at him through the impossible distance and then calmly closed the book.

The entire world began collapsing.

Aria screamed. The other Eden reached desperately for the desk. The little girl smiled. Above them all, the stranger finally spoke.

His voice didn’t echo.

It simply appeared inside Eden’s mind.

He told Eden that he had spent so much time searching for the person holding the book that he had forgotten to ask who wrote the first page.

Reality fractured around him.

The stranger raised the book, and for the first time Eden saw its title.

THE FIRST STORY.

The man opened it and turned page after page until he reached the very beginning. There was only a single sentence written there.

Then he read it aloud.

”The first character opened his eyes.”

The little girl vanished.

Aria vanished.

The other Eden vanished.

The books vanished.

The hospital vanished.

Everything vanished.

Everything except Eden and the stranger holding the book.

The man looked directly at him and calmly explained that he had finally reached the answer he had been seeking. Then he turned the page and told Eden they were about to discover what happened when the first character met the one who created him.

The page turned.

And Eden opened his eyes.
