Yandere Stream

Eden stared at the words carved into the tree: THE STORY WOKE. For a long time, he didn’t say anything. He simply sat there with Aria’s hand in his, listening to the birds singing as if nothing had happened. The sound was almost insulting. The world looked peaceful, the sunlight was warm, and the grass moved gently beneath the morning breeze. Yet Eden could feel something underneath it all—a pulse that wasn’t his heartbeat. It felt larger than anything human, something buried beneath the world itself.

Aria squeezed his hand and quietly warned him not to stare at the words for too long. When Eden asked why, she told him that the story would stare back. He finally looked away from the tree and turned toward her. ”What is the story?” he asked. Aria’s expression became distant as she told him he already knew. Eden immediately denied it, complaining that everyone he met seemed to have a different answer about what he was. Aria almost smiled and said that sounded exactly like him, but Eden wasn’t amused. He insisted he was serious, and Aria assured him she was too.

Looking back at the tree, Aria explained that the story wasn’t a book and it wasn’t a world. When Eden demanded a real answer, she hesitated before saying that it was everything that happened because someone remembered. The explanation only frustrated him further. Aria sighed and explained that he kept imagining the story as something external—a room, a book, or a person writing events down somewhere. Then she tapped his chest and told him the story wasn’t somewhere else. It was him.

Eden looked down at her hand and quietly repeated her words. If the story was him, then why had she said it woke up? Aria looked toward the sky before answering that he was never supposed to become aware of it. His expression hardened immediately. When he demanded to know who decided that, she remained silent until he pressed her again. Finally, she answered. The first readers had decided.

That answer only raised more questions. Eden narrowed his eyes and pointed out that she kept mentioning them. Aria explained that they were still here. When he asked where, she simply replied, ”Everywhere.” A cold wind moved through the trees at that exact moment. Eden rose to his feet and declared that they should find them. Aria’s expression shifted instantly, and she warned him that he didn’t want to do that. She explained that these readers weren’t like Eve. They were older than Eve, people who had been reading long before she ever existed.

A chill crawled up Eden’s spine as he asked how many there were. Aria shook her head and replied that there were enough. When he pointed out that wasn’t actually a number, she quietly admitted there wasn’t one. Eden stared at her and demanded to know what they were. Her voice lowered to almost a whisper as she answered with a single word. Witnesses.

The moment she spoke it, the forest changed. Trees that had been perfectly still began bending away from something invisible, and their leaves rustled despite the lack of wind. The bright morning sunlight dimmed until it felt more like evening. Eden slowly turned and saw someone standing between the trees. Then another appeared. Then another. Within moments, hundreds of people stood scattered throughout the forest.

Men, women, children, and elderly figures watched him silently. Some wore familiar clothing, while others dressed in styles that seemed impossible to place in any period of history. None of them moved. None of them spoke. They simply watched. Eden’s stomach tightened as he asked if these people were the Witnesses. Aria nodded and told him they had been watching him since the beginning.

Scanning the crowd, Eden’s eyes settled on a single man near the front. He looked completely ordinary, wearing a brown coat and glasses. Yet something about him felt familiar. Then Eden realized why. He had seen the man before. He had been sitting in the corner of the hospital room. He had appeared in the background of countless memories. Somehow, Eden had never truly noticed him until now.

Pointing toward the man, Eden asked about him. Aria confirmed that he was one of the first Witnesses. Ignoring her warning to wait, Eden walked directly toward him. The man didn’t move as Eden stopped a few feet away and demanded to know who he was. The stranger smiled and introduced himself as Elias.

The name struck Eden harder than expected. It felt familiar, not because he had heard it recently, but because he had known it before he was capable of remembering. Eden immediately began questioning him. Were you there at the hospital? Yes. At the tree? Yes. In the white room? Yes. During the first story? Yes. The answers came without hesitation.

Eden’s stare hardened as he asked the question that mattered most. Was Elias there when he died? Elias’s smile faded, but he admitted that he had been. Eden pressed further. Had he watched? Yes. Had he done anything? No. Rage tightened Eden’s fists as he demanded to know why. Elias answered calmly that Witnesses were forbidden from interfering.

Eden looked around at the hundreds of silent observers behind him. They had watched a child die and done nothing. When he demanded to know what kind of people they were, Elias answered with unexpected honesty. They were people who were afraid. When Eden asked what they could possibly fear, Elias looked toward the tree and gave an answer that froze him in place. They were afraid of him.

Elias explained that Eden had been the first story to become aware of itself. Before his death, he had been nothing more than another fragile human life. Temporary. Small. Ordinary. But when his heart stopped, something impossible happened. The story refused to end. Eden quietly asked why. Elias answered that it was because Eden refused to let it.

Eden stared at his own hands, insisting he hadn’t known what he was doing. Elias agreed. That ignorance was exactly what made him dangerous. Aria stepped beside Eden and claimed that the story had chosen him. Elias immediately shook his head. Looking directly at her, he said she still didn’t understand. The story had never chosen Eden. Eden had chosen the story.

Something clicked inside him. Memories began aligning in ways they never had before. The first choice. The first death. Luna. Cael. Mira. Every impossible event. Every time reality bent around him because he remembered something. Suddenly, he understood. He had never been surviving the story. The story had been surviving him.

Looking back at Elias, Eden asked what exactly he remembered when he died. Elias shook his head when Eden guessed everything. It had only been one thing. As Elias looked toward Aria’s pale face, he quietly revealed the truth. Eden had remembered that he didn’t want the story to end.

Eden turned toward Aria. She looked away before finally admitting that she had known. She had remembered eventually. When Eden demanded to know why she never told him, she answered honestly. Because she knew exactly what he would do. He would try to save everyone. Eden laughed bitterly and pointed out that he had already done that. Aria simply asked him to look at where it had gotten him.

Elias stepped closer and warned him that he had already broken the first rule. Confused, Eden asked what rule he meant. Elias explained that every story was supposed to have only one ending. Beginnings could have countless possibilities. Middles could contain millions more. But every story eventually reached an ending. Eden had refused every single one.

The implication settled over the forest like a storm cloud. When Eden challenged him, Elias looked directly into his eyes and explained the consequence. The story no longer knew how to finish itself.

A deep rumble rolled beneath the ground. Every Witness looked down at once. Aria grabbed Eden’s arm and told him it was happening. Before he could ask what she meant, the earth split apart. A massive crack tore across the forest floor, stretching farther than the eye could see. Trees toppled into the darkness below while Witnesses scattered in panic. Only Elias remained where he stood.

Eden approached the crack and looked into it. There was no bottom. Only darkness. Then something moved far below. Before he could make sense of it, a voice emerged—not from the creature beneath, but from the crack itself. A single word echoed across reality. End.

The word shook the entire world. Eden stumbled backward, and in that moment he heard a familiar voice inside his head. Luna. When he called her name, she answered. She was still there. He could feel her as a warmth beneath his ribs, a heartbeat that wasn’t his own. Luna told him he didn’t need to bring her back. Eden promised that he wouldn’t.

Her voice weakened, but before fading she told him there was something he needed to know. She wasn’t the only one inside him. The moment she said it, another heartbeat appeared. Then another. Then another. Soon there were dozens. Hundreds. Thousands. Eden staggered backward as the realization crashed into him.

Elias’s expression transformed into horror. Aria demanded to know what was wrong, but Elias could barely speak. He whispered that she had been wrong. Eden hadn’t merely remembered the forgotten. He had remembered everyone.

The Witnesses began screaming. Not because of the crack, but because they could hear the voices too. Every dead character. Every erased possibility. Every discarded world. Every forgotten person. They were all inside Eden. Not trapped. Waiting.

Falling to his knees, Eden pressed his hands against his temples as thousands of voices flooded his mind. Some cried. Some laughed. Some begged. Others simply wanted to be remembered. He shouted for them to stop, but they only grew louder. The forest shook beneath the force of their voices. Elias covered his ears while Aria grabbed Eden and told him to stop fighting.

When he demanded what he was supposed to do instead, she gave a single answer. Listen. Eden insisted he couldn’t, but Aria told him he had to. Then, without warning, every voice vanished.

Silence filled the forest.

Slowly, Eden lifted his head. One voice remained. It was his own voice, yet older than anything human should have been. The voice simply said, ”Finally.”

A figure appeared behind the Witnesses. Tall and thin, dressed in a black coat, the stranger’s face remained hidden beneath a hood. The moment Elias saw him, he dropped to his knees. Every Witness followed. Beside Eden, Aria whispered a terrified ”No.”

Eden stood frozen as the figure removed his hood. The face underneath was his own. Not older. Not younger. Not another possibility. Exactly his. Only the eyes were different. They were completely white.

The figure smiled and said he had been waiting. Eden’s voice was barely audible as he asked who he was. Looking around at the collapsing world, the stranger answered that he was what remained when the story reached its ending.

Eden’s heart stopped. The figure stepped forward and smiled again. Unfortunately, he had already seen Eden’s ending.

Behind him, the sky split open. Something vast moved beyond the tear in reality. The figure raised one hand, and every Witness vanished. Elias disappeared. Aria screamed. Eden reached for her, but he was too late.

The world turned completely white.

As the light swallowed everything, the figure whispered one final sentence.

”Chapter One was never your beginning.”

Then the light consumed Eden completely, and somewhere beyond the world, a page turned.

Chapter 159.

THE END.
