Yandere Stream

Eden stood in the middle of the hospital hallway, staring at the words on the wall until they began to blur. The black ink looked wet even though nothing beneath it could have made it so. A thin line slowly crawled downward, slipping between the cracks of the tiles before disappearing beneath the baseboard. His mother’s voice called his name from somewhere behind him, and a nurse was asking what had happened, but both sounded distant, almost underwater.

The only thing Eden could focus on was the message.

YOU CHOSE A LIFE.

NOW PAY FOR IT.

He reached out and touched the wall. The moment his fingers made contact, the words vanished.

His mother caught up to him a second later. ”Eden, what are you doing?”

He turned toward her. She looked terrified, but not because of the message. She couldn’t remember.

”Mom,” he said carefully, ”do you remember Mira?”

His mother frowned. ”Mira who?”

”Mira.”

”I don’t know anyone named Mira.”

Eden swallowed hard. ”Luna?”

Her confusion deepened. ”Eden, there isn’t a Luna.”

”What about Adrian?”

”Who?”

”Finn?”

She stared at him. ”Eden, you’re frightening me.”

He glanced toward the nurse. The nurse looked just as concerned.

”Do you remember me having friends?” he asked.

”Of course.”

”Who?”

His mother hesitated. ”Your school friends.”

”What are their names?”

She looked at the nurse. The nurse looked back at her. Neither answered.

Eden felt his stomach twist. They hadn’t simply forgotten the others. Reality had erased them completely. Somehow, he was the only person left who remembered they had ever existed.

A door opened at the far end of the hallway.

Eden looked up immediately.

Luna stood there.

She was still a child, still wearing the same white dress, her black eyes fixed on him. But something had changed. Before, Luna had always felt warm, even at her angriest. There had always been something fragile and human about her.

Now there was nothing.

She looked empty.

”Luna.”

She didn’t answer.

Eden started toward her. ”Wait.”

She turned and walked away.

”Luna!”

By the time he reached the corner, she was gone.

He pushed through the doors and sprinted down the corridor, ignoring his mother and the nurses behind him. His bare feet slapped against the cold floor as he chased the fading image.

When he reached the corner, there was no Luna.

Only another hallway.

Then he noticed the room numbers.

201. 202. 203.

The same number repeated endlessly down the corridor.

He walked farther. Every door was identical. Every sign displayed the same room.

Eden stopped.

He knew this feeling. He had seen enough impossible places to recognize it immediately.

This hallway wasn’t real.

Someone had built it specifically for him.

”Luna?”

His voice echoed into the distance.

For a moment there was nothing.

Then a child’s voice answered from behind him.

”You shouldn’t have followed me.”

Eden turned.

Luna stood beside an elevator.

She looked sad.

”Why?”

”Because now they know you can remember.”

”Who?”

Luna glanced toward the ceiling.

”The ones who were waiting.”

Eden approached her slowly. ”What did you do?”

She shook her head. ”I didn’t do anything.”

”Then why doesn’t anyone remember you?”

”Because you chose.”

His expression hardened. ”I chose you.”

”Yes.”

”So why are you punishing everyone else?”

”I didn’t.”

She looked directly at him.

”You did.”

Eden stopped walking.

”No.”

”You chose a life where we existed.”

”I didn’t choose for them to disappear.”

”But that’s what happened.”

”Then fix it.”

Luna looked away. ”I can’t.”

”Why?”

”Because I’m not Luna anymore.”

Eden stared at her.

”What?”

She placed a hand against her chest.

”I was the part of you that wanted to love.”

Her voice trembled.

”But you chose me.”

Understanding hit him instantly.

”So now you’re a person.”

Luna nodded.

”And that’s the price.”

”And the others?”

”They became memories.”

Eden clenched his fists. ”That isn’t fair.”

”No.”

”Then change it.”

”I can’t.”

”Why?”

”Because the choice was already made.”

He stepped closer. ”I didn’t agree to that.”

Luna’s eyes filled with tears.

”You agreed when you touched him.”

”The First Eden.”

Eden felt a chill.

”He gave you a life.”

”And what did he take?”

Luna looked away.

Eden’s voice dropped to a whisper.

”What did he take from me?”

”Everyone else.”

The elevator doors opened.

Inside was darkness.

Luna stepped backward into it, and after a moment’s hesitation, Eden followed. The doors slid shut behind them.

There were no buttons. No numbers. No indication of where they were going.

Yet the elevator began descending.

”How far are we going?” Eden asked.

Luna remained silent.

”Luna.”

Nothing.

”Look at me.”

When she finally did, fear filled her eyes.

For the first time, it looked genuine.

”I don’t know.”

”What do you mean?”

”I don’t know where we’re going.”

The elevator stopped.

The doors opened onto a massive room.

Shelves stretched endlessly in every direction. Thousands upon thousands of books filled them.

These weren’t the strange books he’d seen before.

These felt personal.

Each spine carried a name.

Eden walked to the nearest shelf.

Mira.

Adrian.

Finn.

His chest tightened.

He pulled Mira’s book free and opened it.

The first page contained a single sentence.

Mira existed because Eden remembered her.

He turned the page.

A memory appeared.

Mira laughing beneath the tree.

Another page.

Mira sitting beside him in the hospital.

Another.

Mira crying.

Another.

Mira dying.

Eden slammed the book shut.

His hands were shaking.

He grabbed Adrian’s book.

Then Finn’s.

Finally he found Luna’s.

Her book was different.

There was no name on the cover.

Only one word.

LOVE.

Eden stared at it.

”Why are these here?”

Luna didn’t answer.

He looked around the room.

”Who’s keeping them?”

A voice answered from the darkness.

”I am.”

Eve stepped between the shelves.

Without the mask, she looked exhausted. Her silver hair fell loosely over her shoulders as she approached.

Eden moved toward her immediately.

”You knew this would happen.”

”Yes.”

”You let me choose.”

”Yes.”

”You knew they’d disappear.”

Eve nodded.

”Yes.”

His anger finally broke through.

”You could have warned me!”

”I did.”

”When?”

”Every time you asked me what you were.”

Eden stared at her.

”You wanted to be a person,” Eve said softly.

”I am a person.”

”I know.”

”Then why did you let this happen?”

”Because becoming a person means making choices without knowing the consequences.”

Eden shook his head.

”That’s not an answer.”

”It is the only answer.”

Eve ran her fingers across the books.

”Your old existence was different. Every possibility belonged to you. Every death could be rewritten. Every person could be restored.”

She turned toward him.

”But you were never truly living.”

Eden looked around at the shelves.

”So you made me choose.”

”No.”

Eve shook her head again.

”You chose.”

She pointed toward Luna.

”You chose her.”

Then toward Mira’s book.

”You chose to remember her.”

Then Adrian’s.

”Even after learning you couldn’t save everyone, you still chose to save yourself.”

Eden lowered his eyes.

”I didn’t know.”

”That is what choice means.”

Silence settled between them.

Finally Eden asked the question he had been carrying since the hospital.

”Can I bring them back?”

Eve didn’t answer immediately.

”Eve.”

She met his gaze.

”Yes.”

Hope flashed across his face.

Then she continued.

”But you can’t bring them back and keep what you chose.”

Eden frowned.

”What does that mean?”

”You wanted Luna to become real.”

”Yes.”

”She did.”

”You wanted a life.”

”Yes.”

”You have one.”

”You wanted the others to exist too.”

”Yes.”

Eve’s expression softened.

”You cannot have all three.”

”Why?”

”Because the First Story only has one rule.”

She opened Mira’s book.

Its pages began turning on their own.

”Something must be given for something else to become real.”

Eden looked at the empty space where Luna’s name should have been.

”What if I give myself?”

Eve froze.

Luna stared at him.

”What?”

”If I disappear—”

”No.”

Luna stepped forward.

”Eden, don’t.”

”If my existence is what’s keeping this broken—”

”No.”

”If I give myself back—”

”No!”

Her voice cracked through the room.

The shelves trembled.

Every book fell silent.

Tears streamed down her face.

”You don’t get to do that.”

”Why?”

”Because I already lost you once.”

”You don’t remember.”

”I do.”

Eden froze.

Luna wiped at her eyes.

”I remember everything.”

”You said you didn’t.”

”I lied.”

”Why?”

”Because I knew what you’d do.”

She stepped closer.

”You’d sacrifice yourself.”

Her hand pressed against his chest.

”You always do.”

Eden looked down and finally understood.

The price had never been his life.

The First Eden hadn’t asked him to die.

He had asked him to stop being the person who always sacrificed himself.

And Eden had failed almost immediately.

Luna smiled sadly.

”That’s why they chose you.”

”Who?”

”The ones behind the story.”

Suddenly the lights went out.

Eve looked upward.

”No.”

A book crashed to the floor.

Then another.

Then dozens more.

Something was moving between the shelves.

Luna grabbed Eden’s hand.

Eve stepped backward.

”What’s happening?” Eden asked.

Eve’s voice dropped to a whisper.

”He found us.”

”Who?”

She didn’t answer.

A figure emerged from the darkness.

Tall.

Thin.

Its face hidden behind a black porcelain mask.

The moment Eden saw its posture, his stomach dropped.

It felt familiar.

Too familiar.

The figure raised a hand and slowly removed the mask.

Eden’s heart stopped.

”Cael?”

The face beneath was older. Much older.

White hair.

Scarred skin.

Empty eyes.

Cael smiled.

”Finally.”

Eden took a step forward.

”You’re alive.”

A quiet laugh escaped Cael.

”No.”

He looked around the room.

”I was never alive.”

”What happened to you?”

Cael’s gaze shifted toward Luna.

”She happened.”

Luna immediately stepped in front of Eden.

”Don’t.”

Cael smiled sadly.

”You chose her.”

”Yes.”

”And because you chose her, I disappeared.”

Eden clenched his jaw.

”I didn’t know.”

”I know.”

Cael looked directly at him.

”That’s why I forgive you.”

Eden froze.

Cael lifted his hand.

Every book on every shelf opened at once.

Thousands of voices filled the room.

Mira.

Adrian.

Finn.

Countless others.

All speaking together.

All repeating the same words.

”Remember us.”

Eden’s eyes widened.

Cael smiled.

”You wanted a life.”

The shelves began collapsing around them.

”You got one.”

The floor cracked beneath their feet.

”But now...”

His smile vanished.

”...the dead want theirs.”

Darkness exploded through the room.

And somewhere beneath the floor, something enormous began scratching its way upward.
