Yandere Stream

There was no pain. That was the first thing Eden noticed. He had expected something—a burning sensation, the crushing pressure of being pulled apart, maybe even the same suffocating darkness he had experienced the first time he died. Instead, there was nothing. No body, no ground, no sky, and no sound. Eden couldn’t even tell whether his eyes were open. For several seconds, he simply existed.

Then he heard breathing. Not his own. Someone was breathing beside him, slowly and calmly. Eden turned toward the sound, though he wasn’t sure he actually had a body to turn with. ”Hello?” His voice echoed through the emptiness. A long pause followed before someone finally answered, telling him not to be afraid. Eden immediately recognized the voice. It was Aria.

He tried to move toward her and asked where she was. Aria replied that she was behind him. When Eden turned, he found her standing there. She no longer looked like the little girl he had seen beneath the tree or the ghostly figure who had followed him through the collapsing story. This Aria looked older, perhaps twenty years old. Her black hair reached her waist, and she wore a simple white dress that seemed to disappear into the endless whiteness surrounding them.

Eden stared at her and said she was alive. Aria smiled and gently corrected him. When he asked what she was instead, she told him she was his memory of her. Looking around at the endless white space, Eden demanded to know where they were. Aria answered with a single word: before. When he pressed her for clarification, she explained that they were before everything. Eden immediately rejected the idea as impossible, but Aria merely shrugged and reminded him that neither was he.

Looking down, Eden finally realized he could see his hands. They looked completely normal, but there was still no ground beneath his feet. He seemed to be standing inside an endless white void. Wanting answers, he asked what had happened. Aria explained that he had reached the end. Eden remembered the white-eyed figure saying the same thing and demanded to know why he was still here if the story had ended. Aria answered that he remained because he had not accepted it.

The explanation only frustrated him further. If he truly was the story, then the ending should have erased him. Aria agreed that it should have, but pointed out that it hadn’t. When he asked why, her expression became serious. She explained that he had finally done something the story couldn’t predict. Throughout his existence he had been offered countless choices—save Luna, save Mira, save Cael, live, die, remember, forget—but at the very end he had chosen none of them. He had refused. According to Aria, that refusal was the first thing that had never been written, and by doing so he had stepped outside the story itself.

A sound echoed through the white space. It was the unmistakable sound of a page turning. Eden immediately looked around, but Aria showed no reaction. When he asked if she had heard it, she confirmed that she had. Eden demanded to know who was making the sound, but Aria insisted he already knew. Frustrated, he pointed out that everyone kept telling him that. Aria only smiled and remarked that he was beginning to sound like her.

Another page turned. This time the white space trembled. A black line appeared beneath Eden’s feet, stretching across the emptiness. More lines followed, eventually forming words. Eden watched as his own name appeared before him. Beneath it were several details: his age, listed as six, and his status, listed as deceased. Before he could react, the status changed to continuing. More lines appeared, listing memories in order. Aria was the first. Death was the second. Luna, Cael, Mira, and countless others followed.

The list grew longer and longer, containing hundreds and then thousands of names. Eden watched every person he had met, forgotten, imagined, or become scroll past his eyes. Eventually the list stopped, ending with a final line that read: ORIGINAL MEMORY: UNKNOWN. Eden immediately demanded an explanation. Aria claimed she didn’t know, but he accused her of lying. When he insisted that someone had to know the truth, Aria silently looked behind him.

Eden slowly turned and found the white-eyed version of himself standing there. He looked exactly as he had before—tall, still, and expressionless—but this time he wasn’t smiling. Instead, he looked exhausted. Eden demanded to know who he really was. The figure answered simply that he was Eden. Rejecting the answer, Eden reminded him that he had previously claimed to be what remained after the ending. The figure agreed but added that there had never truly been a beginning.

When Eden demanded an explanation, the figure calmly walked closer and explained that stories do not begin; they are remembered. Eden immediately focused on the important part and asked whether the figure remembered the ending. The answer was yes. He then asked if he died. The figure again answered yes. However, when Eden asked when, the figure explained that he already had.

Confused and frustrated, Eden pointed out that they were still speaking. The figure gestured toward the words floating in the white space and explained that Eden wasn’t alive. When asked what he was instead, the answer came immediately. He was continuation. According to the figure, Eden represented what happened when something refused to end.

Eden noticed Aria looking away and realized she had known this all along. He confronted both of them, demanding to know why they had let him believe he was human. The white-eyed Eden answered that he had needed to believe it. If he had known the truth, he would have stopped caring. Eden immediately rejected the idea, insisting that the people in his life were real. Luna was real. Mira was real. Cael, Finn, and Adrian were real too.

The figure agreed. In fact, he explained that believing they were real was exactly why Eden survived. Had he known they were merely memories, he would have treated them like memories. Instead, he treated them like people. Looking down, Eden felt the familiar warmth still beating inside his chest. Luna was there—not as a person standing beside him, but as a memory and a choice. The figure explained that this had been enough to make them real.

Hope immediately appeared in Eden’s mind. If they were real, then perhaps he could bring them back. The figure immediately shut down the idea. Real, he explained, did not mean alive. That distinction was the mistake Eden had been making all along. Mira could be real without a body. Cael could be real without returning. Luna could be real without speaking. The people he had lost could continue existing within the story without being dragged back into the world.

The realization settled over him slowly. He didn’t need to resurrect them. He only needed to remember them. Looking at Aria, he realized the same rule applied to her. He had remembered her, which made her real, even though she remained dead. For the first time, Eden felt like he understood.

The white-eyed figure immediately told him that he didn’t. Before Eden could argue, the figure pointed upward. There was no sky, yet something enormous appeared above them. A massive black book materialized, so large that its edges disappeared beyond the white horizon. The cover slowly opened. Eden stared in awe, assuming it was the story. The figure corrected him. It was only one story.

Another book appeared. Then another. Then hundreds. Then thousands. Soon the white space was filled with books containing countless worlds, beginnings, endings, and lives. Staring at the impossible sight, Eden asked how many stories existed. The answer was simple: enough to make infinity look small.

One by one, Eden began connecting the pieces. The Witnesses read the stories. The Readers consumed them. Eve had been a Reader who became part of one. The Forgotten was a story that had refused to disappear. Finally, Eden asked what he was. The figure smiled and delivered the answer that hit harder than anything else. Eden had not been written. He had been remembered.

Silence followed. Eden immediately looked at Aria, who lowered her eyes. She quietly explained that he had been the first memory. Before the story, before the characters, before the Witnesses and the Readers, there had only been a memory. Eden struggled to process the implication and demanded to know whose memory it had been.

Tears filled Aria’s eyes. She admitted she couldn’t answer. If she told him the truth, he would remember the original memory. And if that happened, he would stop being Eden. The white-eyed figure agreed. When Eden asked what he would become instead, the answer chilled him. He would become the thing that existed before the story needed a name.

Before Eden could ask more questions, the figure reached into his coat and produced a familiar photograph. It was the picture beneath the tree. But something had changed. There were no longer six children. There were seven. Eden stared at the image and saw Aria, himself, Mira, Cael, Finn, Adrian, and Luna. Yet another figure stood behind them beneath the tree.

The figure had no face.

Eden’s hands began trembling as he asked who it was. Aria answered quietly. It was him. He immediately denied it, but she insisted it was true. According to her, he had been standing behind himself all along. As Eden stared, the faceless figure inside the photograph slowly turned its head. Even though it was only an image, it somehow looked directly at him.

He dropped the photograph. Instead of falling, it remained suspended in the white space. Then the faceless figure inside it raised one hand and pointed directly at him. The white-eyed Eden stepped backward immediately. Aria covered her mouth. Before anyone could react further, reality itself split open through the center of the image.

A black crack appeared, and something began crawling out. First a hand emerged, then an arm, then a shoulder. Finally the faceless being stepped fully into the white space. Eden immediately recognized it. He had seen it throughout his life—in his first memory, in the hospital, in the forest, and behind the children beneath the tree. It had always been there.

The creature looked at him and spoke in his own voice. It told him that he had finally remembered. Aria whispered a horrified protest, but the creature ignored her. Instead, it stepped closer and urged Eden to remember why he had created everything.

His vision blurred. Images flooded his mind. He saw Aria’s death, his own grief, the first tree, the first blank page, the first story, the first choice, and the first lie. Beneath all of them was a single memory he had never been allowed to see. A little boy sat beneath the tree. He wasn’t crying or afraid. He was smiling. Someone sat beside him.

The boy told the stranger that he didn’t want to be alone. The stranger promised that he wouldn’t be. Then the stranger placed a hand against the boy’s chest and promised to give him a world.

The memory vanished.

Eden stared at the faceless creature and realized the truth. It had been the one who gave him the world. When he demanded to know why, the creature answered simply. Because he had asked. Eden swallowed hard and asked what exactly he had requested. The creature leaned closer and explained that he had wanted a story where nobody would ever have to leave him.

Then it delivered one final revelation.

To create that story, he had been willing to become its villain.

The white space cracked apart. Books began falling from the sky. Aria screamed while the white-eyed Eden grabbed his shoulder and shouted for him to wake up. Eden demanded to know where. The figure answered that he needed to wake up in his world—the one he thought he had been living in.

Darkness swallowed everything. The last thing Eden heard before losing consciousness was the faceless creature whispering a single sentence.

Chapter One begins now.
