Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1407: Section 1408: Finally Appears

Sersebial’s crimson pupils ceaselessly rotated until finally, they settled on Angel, and a terrifying aura rushed toward him in an instant.

If it had been any other Apprentice, even a peak Apprentice, they probably wouldn’t have been able to move at all.

But Angel’s body was comparable to that of an Official Wizard of the bloodline side, so this kind of pressure was still within his tolerance.

However, although he was not affected, he still did not move.

The appearance of Sersebial was unexpected for Angel. Though he was confident he could leave at any moment, he had come here to observe the situation of the princess of the Gumman Kingdom and to gather experimental data. To prevent her from taking any greater action, Angel pretended to be influenced by Sersebial and became still.

As Angel became quiet and silent, a cold snort came from afar.

“Why aren’t you speaking now?” the cold voice entered Angel’s ears, “For someone who only moves his mouth, if I wanted to kill you, it would be as easy as flipping my hand.”

Angel’s head slightly lifted as his gaze shifted toward the source of the voice.

At the top of Sersebial’s eyeball stood a skeletal throne crafted from human bones, upon which sat a strange figure larger than an ordinary undead.

This figure was peculiar because her body was split down the middle into two halves; one half was black and the other white. The black side was filled with negative chaotic energy formed of extreme confusion and mad hatred, chaotic and sinister, presenting a pitch-black state; the white side looked no different from an ordinary soul, with an expression calm and gentle, appearing to be a finely-crafted and graceful highborn lady.

This was a Semi-Undead state!

Angel didn’t know if there were other Semi-Undead in the world, but in the realm of the Black Castle, there was only one Semi-Undead: the princess of the Gumman Kingdom, known as the “Origin of Chaos” by Wizards of the Black Castle!

Angel didn’t know why she seemed larger than before, but there was no doubt, this was the Semi-Undead he had inadvertently created.

At this moment, the Gumman Kingdom’s princess was sitting high on her skeletal throne, her two mismatched eyes lowered as they looked at Angel with a sense of superiority.

It had to be said, the Semi-Undead state, though peculiar in appearance, carried an unusual beauty due to her high and mighty aura, as if she truly were a Queen of the Dead, standing at the pinnacle of all things, looking down upon all living beings.

Even Angel was surprised by the dramatic changes in the Gumman princess in just a few years.

The Gumman princess raised her eyebrows with the corner of her lips curving into what seemed like a smile, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes, “Oh, I almost forgot, you’re too weak. Under my Army of the Undead, you simply can’t speak.”

Seeing that Angel had become “humble,” not struggling or making any rash movements, the Gumman princess finally allowed Sersebial to relax the pressure.

Angel also timely feigned a “sigh of relief.”

“Such a powerful Army of the Undead is indeed surprising,” Angel smiled while making a gesture of courtesy, “It’s been a long while, the thirteenth daughter of King Gumman.”

The princess’s expression had been quite stable, but when she heard Angel’s address, her eyes flashed with venom, “Shut your mouth!”

“The moment I left Gumman Kingdom, I severed all ties with the Gumman royal family. Once I annihilate the witches from Black Castle, the next one I’ll kill will be the King Gumman, and that woman who framed me!”

Angel listened to her curses with a calm expression. He had heard the princess’s story before her death when she had told him how she was framed by the eldest princess as a culprit after the loss of Crimson Authority, eventually becoming a slave, undergoing tremendous upheaval, brought to the Black Castle, a den of devils, tormented brutally, and finally bled to death.

So, this Queen of the Dead who now seemed to look down on all living beings, had actually lived a life full of misery and humility. And it’s no wonder that, even after death, turning into an undead, her heart was filled with hatred.

However, rather than understanding the story of the princess’s life, Angel was more interested in her current state.

As far as Angel knew, undead were not supposed to have a complete logical thinking process, and their existence in the world was driven by resentment, to kill all the living.

The fact that the Gumman princess could converse with him, and still wholly remember her life memories, was certainly not something an ordinary undead could do.

Moreover, looking at her series of revenge plans against Black Castle, it also showed her cunning and wisdom.

This was a special kind of undead that Angel had never seen before.

What could have caused it? Angel’s mind was filled with interest and curiosity. He dared to face the Gumman princess because he wanted to know the reasons behind it to perfect “The Report of Reincarnation Prelude Experiment.”

Was it because she had been hit by a White Light Bullet once and became a Semi-Undead? Or is it that the soul of the Gumman princess inherently contained some special condition?

As Angel pondered, the Gumman princess had stopped her curses and looked at him with a chilling gaze, and as the air turned silent, that gaze grew colder.

Angel didn’t know what the Gumman princess was thinking, but he wasn’t yet planning to confront her physically, so he broke the silence first, “First and foremost, I am sympathetic to your plight.”

Angel was brief and did not pass judgment on whether her actions were right or wrong, as these were difficult to determine. Depending on the standpoint, right and wrong could be different.

“Second, since you do not identify with your identity from before your death, I am not sure how I should address you.”

King Gumman’s daughter replied with a cold expression, “You don’t need to know, because you won’t be leaving here alive.”

“Even in death, shouldn’t I become a ghost with understanding?” However, the response from King Gumman’s daughter was merely a cold smile, and the malice in her eyes grew more intense.

“Very well, let’s not speak of it then. Finally, I am quite curious about one thing. It seems that you have intentionally brought me here. May I know why?”

To this question, King Gumman’s daughter did not remain silent as she did before.

Her gaze gently shifted before finally resting on the Samsara Overture in Angel’s hand. A hint of fear flashed in her eyes, but at the same time, there was a certain anticipation.

Her target was this gun, but for the gun’s operation, she needed Angel to provide an explanation.

“How exactly did I end up in this state?” King Gumman’s daughter asked Angel, looking him straight in the eye.

Angel thought to himself, as expected.

He had wondered why King Gumman’s daughter had specifically sought him out. The only things that could connect him to King Gumman’s daughter were two matters: first, he had hastened her death and even helped her accumulate resentment before she died, so that she became an undead immediately upon dying; second, when he had obtained the first White Light Bullet, he fired it casually to test its effects, and King Gumman’s daughter, caught in the crossfire, became the first test subject of the White Light Bullet.

Of these two matters, Angel didn’t think King Gumman’s daughter would particularly remember the first one, or rather, having become undead, she would only remember negative emotions like hatred and anger, and not gratitude… Moreover, the favor Angel had done for King Gumman’s daughter back then wasn’t particularly great.

So, there was only the second possibility; King Gumman’s daughter must have sought him out because of the Samsara Overture and her being struck by the White Light Bullet.

And indeed, it was so.

“Don’t you already have the answer in your heart? By having me appear here, don’t you already know it’s related to it?” Angel replied as he waved the Samsara Overture.

As Angel responded, he was also secretly pondering what kind of change had the White Light Bullet brought to King Gumman’s daughter? Why hadn’t she vanished? Moreover, did she merely want to know the answer, or was she coveting the Samsara Overture as well?

If he could get answers to these questions, “The Report of Reincarnation Prelude Experiment” could reach a more detailed conclusion.

“What does it do? What state am I in now?” King Gumman’s daughter asked again.

Angel lowered his gaze and said, “I have said before, there is an unwritten rule in the Wizards’ Realm called equivalent exchange. I can tell you the answer, but I also want to know something. How about we make a trade?”

King Gumman’s daughter sneered, “Do you think you are in a position to negotiate with me?”

“It’s not a negotiation, I just want to die with understanding. As I said before, if I am to die, I at least shouldn’t die in ignorance, right?” Angel showed a helpless, bitter smile.

King Gumman’s daughter listened, but her eyes betrayed some skepticism; she felt that Angel was too calm, and his answer seemed to have an aspect of retreating in order to advance.

Did Angel have another trick up his sleeve?

King Gumman’s daughter sensed the outside world. The people from Black Castle were kept outside and had not discovered this place; it should be safe.

Even if the people from Black Castle really came in, and they wanted to save Angel… She glanced around.

Giant serpent undead, bizarre undead, red-robed fierce spirits, perilous mountain giants, and more, with Cerberus as the crowning touch—should the people from Black Castle really come to save Angel, he likely wouldn’t escape her grasp.

With the Army of the Undead as her confidence, King Gumman’s daughter cast aside the sliver of doubt in her heart and told Angel, “I can allow you to die with understanding, on one condition: every word you say must be the truth!”

The corners of Angel’s mouth turned up slightly in a quiet smile, then he quickly resumed a serious demeanor, “Of course, surrounded by so many powerful undead, do you think I would dare to tell lies?”

King Gumman’s daughter just snorted, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

Angel paused, then said, “Now, I can answer your previous question.”

Only then did King Gumman’s daughter shift her attention to him.

“This gun is called the Samsara Overture, and its function…”

Angel did not lie, for the function of the Samsara Overture had already been demonstrated before, and even the effect of the White Light Bullet—he estimated that King Gumman’s daughter had guessed it roughly.

So, he did not specifically conceal anything.

However, when it came to the restrictions of being Semi-Undead, he did hold back slightly in his explanation.
