Chapter 1406: Section 1407: Cerberus

While Angel was deliberating, a thunderous noise came from behind.

Angel turned around.

The dangerous mountain giant that had stayed in the trench was slowly sticking out its head. Across the trench, the hands of the undead no longer flaunted themselves, and all the undead had crawled out from the ground. At a glance, the number of undead gathering densely was beyond count.

Among these undead, Angel also spotted the Red Wraith and the Python Undead hidden among them.

At this moment, all of the undead were looking at Angel with a ghastly gaze.

Angel couldn’t help but smile secretly; was this another round of threats?

Angel paid no attention to the situation behind him and looked forward.

While standing across the chasm earlier, he couldn’t see clearly what was on the other side, seeing only pitch darkness, but he could feel an extremely intense evil intent.

It wasn’t until Angel actually stood on this side of the chasm that he realized the evil intent had almost turned into a tangible mist. It was this very mist, born of evil intent, that blocked all his vision.

Everything around was pitch-black, and he couldn’t see a thing.

Angel thought that another hand of the undead would appear to guide the way, but after waiting in place for a while, nothing appeared.

“It seems this trench is probably the dividing line,” Angel speculated. Perhaps, the time to meet the mastermind behind this was not far off.

Angel summoned a source of light and moved a few steps forward, but the darkness remained unfathomable.

Just then, a strange laugh suddenly echoed from the darkness.

It was a woman’s laugh, initially captivating, but as the laughter continued, it became more shrill, like metal scraping on metal, increasingly grating to the ear.

While the laugh resounded, Angel felt a slight discomfort in his soul. However, it was just discomfort and nothing more.

But this made Angel alert.

His soul was very special, immune to most negative impacts on the soul, so the fact that the laughter made him feel uncomfortable indicated that it was no simple matter. If it had been someone else entering, they might have already suffered misfortune.

With heightened caution, Angel continued to move forward.

After he took a few more steps, the laughter in the darkness abruptly stopped, along with a light “eh” of surprise as if the other party was puzzled as to why the laughter had no effect on Angel.

Following the previous source of the sound, Angel quickly took several steps forward, and then, he saw a tree.

Though the tree was still some distance away from him, obscuring the full view, the glowing light from the Light Spell revealed that the tree seemed to be thriving, not dead.

The source of the sound was coming from this tree.

Angel took out Samsara Overture and cautiously advanced; as he moved forward, the true appearance of the tree finally came into view.

At the same time, Angel also saw the one who had previously laughed… the undead.

It was a Red Wraith perched on the tree branch, looking down at Angel from above, her eyes showing only the whites, filled with madness.

Around the Red Wraith, there were other undead, though they appeared to be ordinary and flickered in and out among the trees. However, it’s worth mentioning that all these undead were male, making it the first time Angel had come across male undead here, besides the mountain giant.

“Why won’t you be with me? Why? Why?” The Red Wraith initially had a calm expression, but as Angel approached, her once delicate face suddenly twisted into a ghastly grimace as she hysterically screamed at Angel.

“Heehee, am I not beautiful?” After her fury, she suddenly calmed down again and spoke in a quiet, eerie tone.

But in an instant, her tone rose again, “Why? Why? Answer me, why?!”

The Red Wraith lunged at Angel, and in the blink of an eye, she was less than a meter away from him; Angel could even see the Soul Force filled with chaos and evil intent coursing under her skin.

“Speak!” The Red Wraith tried to tear at Angel’s clothes, but he dodged her: “Answer me!”

Angel remained silent, but a wave of psychic energy permeated the surrounding space: “In life, a Linguamancer, in death, fallen to a Red Wraith. The mind has vanished, but the actions repeat.”

“Answering her would mean entering the Linguamancer’s trap,” echoed Angel’s psychic energy, spreading to the depths of the darkness.

“The Linguamancer’s influence still aims to control. The previous Infant Spirits failed to control me, so they planned to use the Red Wraith for control?” Angel’s lips curled up: “Why always resort to such cheap tactics? What, in the end, are you after?”

“Is it me?” Angel spun Samsara Overture on his fingertips like a flourish: “Or is it for this?”

After transmitting the spiritual fluctuation, there was no response. Yet Angel was certain that the unseen manipulator behind the scenes must have heard it, because the red-clad fierce spirit who had been incessantly questioning him intensely before had now retreated to the trees, watching Angel with icy cold eyes.

“You guided these undead to lead me here just to see me, didn’t you? Yet why are you now unwilling to show yourself?”

“To be honest, I have no clue what you want from me,” Angel continued. “But I do have some questions that require your answers. In the Wizards’ Realm, there is an unwritten rule known as the principle of equivalent exchange. You answer my questions, and I will satisfy your demands within reason. How does that sound?” Angel knew she must be lurking somewhere in the dark, so he kept talking.

“Still no intention of coming out?”

“Or is it that your wings are not fully grown, that you are too weak, afraid to meet me?”

“After all, all along the way, you have been telling me how weak you are…very weak…”

As Angel was about to continue, a cold sneer emerged from the darkness, filled with mockery.

A glint flashed in Angel’s eyes. Although several years had passed, he hadn’t forgotten how that laughter felt. In Black Castle, he had witnessed King Gumman’s transition from living to dead, from soul to undead, so he was no stranger to King Gumman’s voice. The laughter from just now was definitely hers.

Angel heard the direction from which the laughter came, but he made no move, as if unaware, and went on, “Do you think I’m joking?”

“Not at all.”

“The path formed by the hands of the undead was indeed shocking; the giant serpent undead indeed sent chills down one’s spine, and then there was the Mountain Giant…and so on. All of these are mighty forces, which I will not deny.” Angel’s voice suddenly softened, “But these are not your powers.”

A violent commotion emanated from the darkness, and the ground trembled as if something was approaching Angel.

However, Angel remained indifferent and continued, “I am an Illusion Series wizard. I’m not sure how well you understand wizards, but within the Illusion Series, there is a school known as Heart Illusion. To become a wizard of the Heart Illusion School, one must grasp both behaviorism and psychology.”

“To study the Heart Illusion Technique, I have dabbled in some behaviorism. If I were to analyze, your previous series of actions…were quite interesting.”

The surrounding noise grew deafening, a putrid smell and a dense, almost palpable malevolence surrounded Angel.

It was even, very close by. Angel could now see some undulating contours.

Nonetheless, Angel kept up his verbal onslaught.

“Those who rely on external forces to demonstrate their strength typically possess little power of their own.” Angel smiled radiantly, “Don’t you think it’s very similar to your previous behavior?”

As Angel’s words fell, a chilly wind blew.

Angel lightly tapped his foot and stepped back a few paces.

Where he had been standing moments before, a huge pit had appeared.

As the pit appeared, the surroundings suddenly brightened. This brightness wasn’t the result of Angel’s Light Spell but from countless undead that had gathered from nowhere, their inherent glow faintly illuminating the dark area.

With the glow illuminating the area, Angel could see the surrounding situation.

“It doesn’t look too good,” Angel murmured quietly. While it had been dark, he had already sensed that the nearby shapes were too bulky. Only when it truly lit up and he saw the specific situation did he realize what kind of being he had been verbally sparring with.

Not to mention the countless undead.

Not to mention the Mountain Giant undead and the giant serpent undead had crossed the chasms and were now less than a hundred meters away, glaring at him angrily.

And not to mention the other side, where over a dozen red-clad fierce spirits with sinister eyes looked on from the trees.

Just considering what was in front of Angel, the horrifyingly immense undead creature was enough to make his heart shudder.

To be precise, it was an eyeball, but incredibly large, even dwarfing the Mountain Giant behind.

The oval-shaped eyeball, with a blood-red pupil, rotated eerily within the white of the eye.

Seeing this eye-shaped undead, Angel immediately recognized its origin. Before Angel and Shadow had sneaked into the Garden of Living Souls, they had seen an identical eyeball outside the dome of the middle world.

According to Shadow, the true body of this eyeball was called Sersephilas.

Sersephilas was a super-massive Magical Creature with an enormously huge frame, able to turn the world upside down with a single movement. Out of concern for the life in the middle world, Sersephilas was ordered by wizards not to move, so it usually had to patrol the middle world only with its eyes.

Sersephilas was also very powerful, possessing the strength of a Second Level peak wizard.

Angel couldn’t believe that King Gumman had managed to obtain even the undead form of such a super-massive Magical Creature!

He could only hope that this was just an eyeball, without the true body… If there was a true body, Angel himself wasn’t afraid; he could just walk away if things got too rough, but then he would have to pray for Black Castle.
