Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 3863  Speedy Journey

”I want you to act as bait.”

Davis waved his hand, ”You know Iʼm here to save my friends, so I need you to distract the Heavenʼs Warriors and the realm officials with your presence as much as possible. I know there are big risks involved without this treasure to aid you, so feel free to decline. I wonʼt hold you against your will, but if you do help me, I will compensate you for your actions in the future.”

”…”

Rokushi Mirai narrowed her eyes.

There was even compensation involved? However, she didnʼt like this proposal, as her chances of survival were very low without the treasure.

She actually wanted to demand it back but knew there was no way he was returning it.

Her mood wasnʼt great already, as she was constantly hunted, but now she was caught, just by someone who wanted to kill her for no reason. But the fact remained: she was caught, making her mood plummet more. She just didnʼt have the heart to listen.

Then again, the foremost thing she wanted to look out for now was for her to get out of this situation and also get rid of these chains. It was highly uncomfortable.

”What should I do?” Rokushi Mirai asked.

”You just need to be on the run and reveal your presence in a delayed time frame a day before the execution begins. Of course, the Heavenly Blight Hall should also help you if they are genuinely sincere in wanting to recruit me. Iʼm sure a few Empyrean and Autarch level assassins are gathering near the execution site as we speak.”

Davis offered a plan and shrugged, ”Well, you donʼt need to answer it quickly. We have some time until we near the Azure Tree Lower Realm. So, take your time.”

”No need. I agree with your condition. Take these chains off of me.”

Rokushi Mirai uttered.

”…”

Davisʼs surprise at the prompt response caused him to blink.

Her face was expressionless and her voice cold, but her squirming body relayed the heavy discomfort she was feeling.

Davis raised his hand, looking like he wanted to say something, but shook his head.

”Fine. Iʼm warning you for the last time. Do something funny, and youʼll be dead before you know it. If you think Iʼm playing, feel free to try.”

He walked towards her and reached out his hand, removing the firm knots of the chains that bound her body. He tied her in an efficient way so that her legs stretched back and her arms were pinned behind her back. After removing those linkages, Davis then stepped back, his eyes never leaving her as he waited for her next move.

Rokushi Mirai glared at him.

He basically manhandled her when removing the chains, but there was no other way to remove them, so she didnʼt bother. The last of the chains were simply wrapped around her body. With her hands freed, she removed them herself and stood up, casting a glance at him before she walked away and stretched.

ʼHe really released me…?ʼ

While stretching, Rokushi Mirai checked her soul and other areas, but she couldnʼt find anything of concern.

She looked back and saw the chains disappear.

Davis inwardly heaved a sigh of relief.

In fact, he wanted to remove these chains as fast as possible and throw them back into his soul sea.

After all, the more time these chains were outside, the more chances the Reincarnation Dimension would be on his tail. He wanted to avoid them for the time being, at all costs. He wouldnʼt even have time to cry if some terrifying entity took him away. Those ghosts devoid of any semblance of belonging to the living world might appear out of nowhere.

Davis turned to look at her and saw her gray pupils change shape as she viewed him with reptilian eyes.

It made Davis wonder if she was a fey, but she seemed human from what he could tell, although it was possible she was on the brink of becoming a fey. The blood of a Grand Saint Magical Beast couldnʼt be easily suppressed.

”Whatʼs your magical beast bloodline? For you to be able to use death energy, I wonder what magical beast is capable of it. Itʼs definitely not your initial bloodline. Itʼs a variant beast of divergence, isnʼt it?”

”…”

Rokushi Mirai stared at him.

His tone was as though nothing had happened between them, and he was a curious acquaintance, asking questions.

She just couldnʼt understand how his brain worked.

In her perspective, if strangers displayed hostility, it was usually the end of it.

She heaved a breath, ”As you may have heard from rumors, Iʼm from the Thorn-Vine Serpent Clan. You are also correct, as the magical beast I hunted down and absorbed its blood turned out to be not just an ordinary variant beast but a variant beast of divergence, greatly changing the course of my life.”

She looked away, her gray pupils returning to normalcy but seeming unfocused as she remembered the past.

”I donʼt know its true name, but Iʼve named it Dreadcoil Necrofang Viper because itʼs the variant of the Great Saint Magical Beast, Dreadcoil Shadowfang Viper. Its venom is a death-attributed venom, far more powerful and elusive than the darkness-attributed venom of the Dreadcoil Shadowfang Viper. As long as the venom successfully penetrates, it could even harm cultivators an entire stage above. Even you wouldnʼt survive.”

”Haha.”

Davis couldnʼt help but chuckle.

”It would probably succeed if I refused to do anything against it.”

”…”

Rokushi Miraiʼs gaze flickered.

He was actually stating that even a death-attributed poison wouldnʼt work on him. Did this have anything to do with how he robbed her of her treasure in an instant?

As far as she knew, that was definitely a feat incapable of any humans or lifeforms, unless he actually possessed a higher grade version of that same treasure. Otherwise, she couldnʼt understand exactly how he instantly split the connection between the treasure and her.

Even if he were the previous owner who held some control over it, the severance definitely wouldnʼt be instantaneous. There wasnʼt a spirit for it to side with him either.

It was a great mystery and, by far, the most incredulous defeat in her life. She didnʼt even see it coming and was given a resounding blow at her gut, although now that she was released, it was starting to heal naturally. Nonetheless, it had her thinking there were some encounters that couldnʼt be won, no matter what.

”Well, you can stay in another cabin for the time being. Iʼll let you know when you need to leave.”

”…”

Rokushi Mirai continued to stare at him.

No words came out of her. Finally, she didnʼt say anything and left.

Davis watched her leave before he also followed after her. However, he didnʼt follow her all the way and entered another empty cabin, making himself comfortable.

He felt a bit tired as he had overused the black-white stone in Fallen Heaven. However, if he slept, thereʼs a good chance that Rokushi Mirai would assassinate him if she had any strange ideas, so he kept himself awake and continued to familiarize himself with the treasure, forming a bond as he bound it with his soul.

His entire actions would depend on its usage, so he couldnʼt be ignorant about it. However, testing it was also dangerous, so he planned to ask Rokushi Mirai about it, wanting to know if its usage was raw or if there were any unique abilities to it.

That said— it hadnʼt been that long since Rokushi Mirai obtained this treasure, so he wondered if she was even knowledgeable about it.

Days passed.

He eventually arrived in the Azure Tree Lower Realm after crossing the Whispering Wildlands Lower Realm and the Lightning Kirin Lower Realm without much trouble. He still had three days to spare. Such was the speed of traveling on an Empyrean Grade Flying Ship.

Nonetheless, he still had to reach the Obsidian Crystal Turtle Minor Realm, but it seemed that the security near the realm edges was entirely tight. Even with the hundreds of billions of people heading to see the execution, they were thoroughly checked before being allowed to enter. However, it was impossible to cover all the areas.

Only the edges were covered, not the space above.

The realmʼs decree made it so that exit was nearly impossible by traversing above. However, he had an Empyrean Grade Treasure, so he was able to break the restriction and enter space.

Within a day, he reached the Obsidian Crystal Turtle Minor Realm.

The assassins had the route planned, so they were able to get into the realm without any trouble despite the blaring security. During the whole time, Rokushi Mirai stayed put.

There was only one time she came to his room, and that was to demand her storage rings back. He told her he would give it to her once they landed in the Obsidian Crystal Turtle Minor Realm. He wasnʼt holding her back, as she was free to leave. However, he didnʼt promise he would give her things back.

Without putting up a fight and remaining expressionless, Rokushi Mirai left.

It was unknown what she was thinking, which made Davis sigh for her as he wondered what kind of life she lived. She seemed turtled up in her own world, afraid to get hurt, but since she had tremendous willpower enough to withstand extreme fear, he doubted she carried trauma or perhaps, already came out of it.

Soon after reaching the Obsidian Crystal Turtle Minor Realm, Davis finally came into the presence of a higher up of the Heavenly Blight Hall. It was as he expected. They planned to attack the execution site, but that was to show their willingness to recruit him. Now that he was here, it was unknown if they would help him or kidnap him to serve their purpose.

Standing before him was a uniquely dressed white-robed man who had his eyes closed for such a long time that Davis had to guess that he was blind.

”It is a pleasure to meet you, Divine Emperor of Death.”

He cupped his hands, and his voice was gentle, which made Davis narrow his brows more than necessary because he felt danger from this person.
