Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 132: Disassembly and ”Modding” of a Spellbook

”Haha, what are you talking about? It’s not as simple for a normal person to cast a spell as it is for you. For example, a Spirit Vision at the Foresight level doesn’t give you any advantages. Try casting it again without relying on Spirit Vision and see if it’s easy,” Ji Niang said, annoyed.

Sure enough, we were not from the same world; our understanding was on completely different levels.

”Uh... should I try it now?”

I asked tentatively, following Teacher Ji Niang’s suggestion.

I didn’t think I had consciously used Spirit Vision just now.

I looked at the Fireball that was still trapped in the spell.

It was still wildly twisting and spewing heat waves, agitating the air, and dragging a long tail of fire behind it.

Every tiny bit of forward movement took a long time.

Every single moment of it was laid bare before me, with no secrets.

”You can try. I’ll be watching. Even if you fail, there will be no danger to your life,” Ji Niang did not deny my casual request but instead spoke with interest.

”Okay, alright, I’ll try.”

I took a deep breath and adjusted my state.

Casting a Fireball just now had drained one of my Magic Power Sources and consumed a lot of my Mental Power.

But casting another one was no problem.

However, I needed to reflect.

I hadn’t paid much attention to my Mental Power Meditation before, so it hadn’t improved much.

Now it seemed that the amount of Mental Power was indeed very important.

Even if I had many Magic Power Sources, they were external objects.

Mental Power was my own strength.

At this point, I thought of Tan Han.

She had so many Magic Power Sources, but could her Mental Power handle it?

Just as I was preparing to use my Mental Power to connect with the spellbook in my body like last time, Ji Niang spoke.

”Wait, stop for a moment.”

”Huh?”

I opened my eyes and looked at Ji Niang, wondering what was wrong now.

”How does your Mental Power precisely sense the location of the spellbook in your body and use the spell?”

”Huh?”

I looked at Ji Niang, confused.

This question was like asking me how I could accurately pat my own thigh with my hand.

How was I supposed to explain that?

”Uh... my Mental Power threads reached out and touched the spellbook’s location, then I cast the spell?”

I looked at Ji Niang, baffled, while subconsciously pointing to my chest.

”It seems you didn’t understand. I just told you to try again without relying on Spirit Vision. You think you can turn Spirit Vision on and off, right?”

Ji Niang held a hand to her forehead, sighed, and asked.

”Um... pretty much.”

If I couldn’t control the on and off switch for Spirit Vision, then I couldn’t differentiate between the normal world and that strange and terrifying Spirit Vision world.

”In reality, Spirit Vision doesn’t have such a convenient on or off switch.”

”You’re an Innate Spirit Visionary. I can’t imagine what you experienced as a newborn, but you must have unintentionally done something that forced the level of your Spirit Vision to decrease.”

”Perhaps you thought it was ’off,’ but it might just be the world you see after you’ve blocked most of the Spirit Vision information. So maybe the world you’ve seen from the beginning is different from what all of us see.”

”Uh...”

I fell silent.

I really hadn’t considered this possibility.

I was a transmigrator; I had experienced what a normal world was like.

How could I wait?

Maybe it was possible.

When I cast a spell, the perspective I saw when my Mental Power connected with the spellbook.

I had always thought it was Mental Power perception or was this a cognitive error, and it was a way of using Spirit Vision?

”You seem to have figured something out. It’s okay. I didn’t say this to correct you. If you can build a self-consistent worldview, it must be a reasonable way of understanding the world. I’m just offering a possibility, a new perspective you haven’t considered,” Ji Niang quickly came over to comfort me.

But a hint of nervousness flashed across her expression.

From her perspective, Yang Yuehan was a child who had just reached adulthood and had even been sent to a mental hospital as a child.

The fact that he could live a normal life until now must mean he had his own understanding.

If this understanding was broken by a few casual words from her, it might not have been a big deal normally.

But the person in front of her was a Floating World-level Visionary, which could trigger a series of cognitive breakdowns.

A life that had not reached the Transcendent level could not possibly fully comprehend all the possibilities of the Transcendent world at once.

So she might have really caused a serious consequence with her unintentional words.

Her goal was to help Yang Yuehan unleash his Spirit Vision abilities to the maximum extent, not to completely unleash them all at once.

That would turn him into a lunatic just like the other Innate Spirit Visionaries.

It seemed she needed to speed up the process of helping him achieve Transcendent status, even if it was just to elevate his life level first, Ji Niang thought to herself.

Then she gently asked me, who was still in a daze.

”Are you okay, Yang Yuehan, Little Han?”

”Huh? Oh, I’m fine. I just thought of some possibilities. I’m okay.”

I looked at Ji Niang’s fleeting panic and responded with a smile.

Did this Ji Niang think I would have a cognitive breakdown?

She was so concerned about me?

Her tone of voice just now was also very cautious, which was a little unusual.

My cognition was that of an adult.

When I encountered something I couldn’t understand, I would just give up on it.

What cognitive breakdown?

Even if they told me this world was fake and my existence was meaningless, I would ignore it and continue to enjoy myself.

The fact that I could enjoy it was the greatest meaning!

”Um... do you still want me to try casting the spell?”

I asked, pointing to the Fireball still trapped in the spatial spell.

Since it had been pointed out that my attempt seemed meaningless and that I couldn’t completely ”turn off” Spirit Vision, there was no need to waste my magic power.

After all, I only had three Magic Power Sources.

At most, I could cast Fireball three times.

”No, there are no longer any barriers for you to cast a normal spell. Let’s try an advanced method of using a spellbook.”

When she said this, a hint of excited smile appeared at the corner of Ji Niang’s mouth.

This showed that even though she had said it so casually just now, what she was about to do was a meaningful experiment for a Transcendent witch like her.

”Okay, so what do I need to do?”

I nodded obediently, agreeing.

After all, I was about to try that so-called advanced method.

What would the effect be?

”Just listen to me.”

Ji Niang was very satisfied with my cooperation.

With a wave of her hand, the slowly flying Fireball in the spell space suddenly extinguished as if it had run out of energy.

Then Ji Niang came to a nearby experimental table and opened the Earth Vein operating system, casually pulling up a large screen.

”Do you still remember the things I explained to you before?”

Ji Niang operated the screen and adjusted it to an analysis diagram.

”Um... I remember some.”

”Then what about this? Do you remember what I said this structure was?”

Ji Niang put the screen in front of me and asked.

”Mmm... I remember.”

I distinguished it and recalled what Teacher Ji Niang had told me just now.

This was a part of the ritual structure inside the Fireball spellbook.

It was also the core of the spellbook’s interior.

Generally, the interior of a spellbook would have a ritual as its core.

The various structures built using Transcendent theories served the internal ritual.

It could be said that a spell’s ritual determined the effect it would produce.

Of course, some spellbooks did not have a ritual inside and were simply spellbooks built with Transcendent theory.

This kind of ritual-less spellbook was also called a Lesser Spell to distinguish it from a spell with a ritual.

And the power or effect of a Lesser Spell was basically at the lowest level of spells of the same tier, but they were also the easiest to use and did not consume much.

”This is part of the ’Formation Ritual’ structure inside the Fireball spell.”

There were many types of rituals, such as the ritual inside this Fireball spell, which was similar to a magic circle, the same magic circle that condensed in front of my hand when I cast the spell just now.

This was abbreviated as a ’Formation Ritual.’

There were also classifications like ’Chant Ritual,’ ’Action Ritual,’ and so on.

If you were to classify them in detail, you could talk about it forever.

”That’s right. Now I’ll teach you how to use Mental Power threads to disassemble the spellbook!”

”Huh? Disassemble? A spellbook?”

I asked in surprise.

Why would we disassemble a perfectly good spellbook?

”Only by disassembling and prying open the outer protective layer of the spellbook can your Mental Power threads enter its interior to modify the ritual. This is ’modding’ the spellbook,” Ji Niang saw my confusion and explained to me thoughtfully.

”Don’t think it sounds so easy. It’s because you have a talent that others can’t match. You can cross a threshold that others can’t reach in their lifetime just by relying on your talent alone.”

This was not the first time Ji Niang had expressed such envy.

Maybe she also felt that she was talking too much, so she quickly stopped mentioning it and moved on.

”Come, let’s try disassembling it. Use the Fireball spellbook I gave you. If it accidentally collapses, I’ll give you another one. Don’t be afraid to be bold just because you’re worried about that happening.”

Ji Niang pulled the screen in front of me and began to explain the steps using images.

Using Mental Power as an external force and Spirit Vision as feedback, as expected, I quickly learned how to disassemble the spellbook’s energy shell.

The spellbook had this energy shell so that it could exist briefly without a medium and remain unharmed.

If you said it was fragile, it could even create a terrifying killing spell.

If you said it was sturdy, it could also collapse on its own when it had no medium.

So, ’modding’ it was a difficult thing to do.

”That’s it, take your time. Just like that. I’ll prepare some experimental records. ’Precise Disassembly of the Fireball Spellbook’s Energy Shell, First Experiment.’”

Ji Niang spoke softly, and then the Earth Vein operating system also began to record the current scene.

Whether it was a success or a failure, this would be a very memorable video.

A non-Transcendent witch, disassembling a spellbook with her bare hands without the aid of any tools!

If this kind of video were uploaded to the video websites of the witch world, it would be liked crazily by witches, who would then start belittling and dissing other witches and them.

But she was too lazy to do such a boring thing.

A spellbook was something that could only be created at the Transcendent level.

That being said, it wasn’t something every Transcendent could do.

It was like how college students all write papers, but not every college student’s paper can pass the plagiarism check.

It’s something like that.

Some people’s content is very professional, while others’ papers are full of fluff.

It was pretty much the same for Transcendent witches creating spellbooks.

Moreover, because of the influx of other races, meaning witches who were converted from other races, they had become the main population of the witch race, which had lowered many of the thresholds for Transcendent witches.

So not all Transcendent witches could create spellbooks.

For example Ji Niang.

She could also create spellbooks, but they were all Lesser Spells that didn’t have a ritual as their core.

If she had to create a spellbook with a ritual, she might need to find a large amount of professional data and specific experimental cases to meticulously follow along.

There was no other way.

Even among Transcendent witches, there were differences.

But many simple-minded Transcendent witches couldn’t even create a spellbook by following an actual case.

So Ji Niang considered herself a genius.

At least she could make one, couldn’t she?
