Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 123 Let’s Start with an Analysis Report to See Your Strength

”Y-yes...”

I awkwardly rubbed my head.

My expression just now was a bit off; I was so nervous talking about this on the spot that my words were all jumbled.

”That’s a predictable answer, but it’s still a bit ambitious for you.”

Ji Niang showed no surprise after hearing my confirmation, but that comment about being ”ambitious” was a considerable blow.

Did I bite off more than I could chew?

”But I approve of this topic.”

Then, Ji Niang made a sudden turn and agreed.

After that, she explained the reason for her decision without any reservations.

”After all, you should know why I chose you to join my group. You’re a new student who has never been exposed to the transcendent world. This will be a long process of cultivation, but I can wait. The first step requires you to completely master your Spirit Vision.”

”Okay.”

I nodded in agreement.

I wasn’t surprised by Ji Niang’s response, just a little astonished that she would be so direct with me.

Since she wasn’t going to beat around the bush, I didn’t want to get sentimental either.

I just hesitated for a moment and then accepted the fact directly.

”I like your straightforwardness. It’s clear that your status as an Innate Spirit Visionary makes you different from others.”

Ji Niang was very satisfied with the attitude I displayed.

Of course, the praise was said in passing.

After all, I didn’t seem to have any other ability that would be valued by a Transcendent Witch.

And just yesterday, she said I was hesitant about something, but now she’s changed her tune, so I could naturally tell she was just being perfunctory.

”Now, let’s start with the first test.”

As Ji Niang spoke, she reached for her chest.

Soon, a cluster of crimson-glowing energy appeared in her hand.

I didn’t even need to use Spirit Vision to see this wondrous sight.

This thing was very familiar; I had seen it more than once.

Because it was a Spellbook.

And it was a piping hot Spellbook just taken from Ji Niang’s body.

”Little Han, you should be no stranger to this, right?”

”Mhm, a Spellbook.”

I nodded.

But I didn’t know what Ji Niang meant by this.

Was she going to give this Spellbook to me?

Or was the analysis of the Spellbook going to start right now?

But I remembered that a Spellbook would gradually dissipate if taken out alone.

If it didn’t have a medium, the spell would self-destruct or something.

”That’s right, this is a Spellbook. It’s the culmination of spell application. Its creation has simplified the tedious process of learning and casting spells...

Of course, it has also restricted the application and extension of spells to a certain extent.”

”But it’s a good thing with more benefits than drawbacks. It’s also a more efficient way of representing a spell than a book record.”

As Ji Niang spoke, she walked over to an experimental table.

She placed her hand on the transparent surface, and soon, a surge of energy rippled, and bright specks of light rose from the tabletop.

This energy felt very familiar.

It was the fluctuation of Earth Vein Energy!

Although I hadn’t specifically studied Earth Vein-related subjects, I had come into actual contact with Earth Vein Energy many times.

I couldn’t possibly forget it.

It seemed this experimental table was an alchemical item that could freely use Earth Vein Energy.

With a wave of Ji Niang’s hand, the Earth Vein Energy formed a semi-transparent panel.

It was obvious that this distinctively artificial panel with its border patterns and UI design was a basic function of the experimental table itself, not something Ji Niang had created with her own means.

At this moment, Ji Niang held the Spellbook in one hand and placed the ball of light in the center of the panel.

The Spellbook was held up by the illusory panel, and from the perspective of Spirit Vision, Earth Vein Energy wrapped around the Spellbook, supporting it and preventing it from falling to the ground.

The tendency of the Spellbook to dissipate into the air was suppressed after being surrounded by the Earth Vein Energy.

It felt as if it had found a medium.

”Curious about what I’m going to do?”

Ji Niang turned to me with a smile.

”Are we going to study this spell?”

”That’s a pretty good guess, but we’re not moving that fast yet. After all, we need to confirm one thing first.”

As Ji Niang spoke, her gaze was fixed on me.

Her gesture was a clear hint, ”And that is, how far can your Spirit Vision go?”

‘’What should I do?”

I was unnerved by Ji Niang’s stare, but I still asked in a low voice.

”It’s simple. Use your Spirit Vision to directly observe this Spellbook, and then write me an analysis report. There’s no word count limit or format restriction. Just record whatever you see. If you can’t describe it, draw it. Use a combination of text and pictures.”

”Huh?”

I opened my eyes in shock.

You want me to write a report right off the bat?

An analysis report, no less?

Although there was no limit on the word count or format, was this something I could even do right now?

After a brief moment of self-doubt, I calmed down.

It was just an analysis report.

This was an opportunity to show Ji Niang my value.

Only by showing sufficient value could I get equal treatment in return!

How could I back down because of something like this?

The only problem was.

I didn’t know how to use language to describe the perspective under Spirit Vision.

”What? Are you scared?”

Ji Niang frowned slightly.

She was clearly dissatisfied with my tone just now.

After all, backing down before even starting wasn’t a good sign.

”No, I will complete it properly!”

I lowered my head, my tone firm.

I knew that my simple ”Huh?” had already left a bad impression on Ji Niang.

If I didn’t show my determination now, the road ahead would be much harder.

”That’s more like it.”

Ji Niang revealed a satisfied expression.

She didn’t want the person under her to be someone who would back down when faced with difficulty.

No matter how dazzling their talent, she wouldn’t even look at them.

To Ji Niang, the current Little Han was an unpolished gem.

She had the confidence to polish her up, she just hoped that the gem she was so hopeful about wasn’t rotten wood, or it would just dirty her hands.

”Today, you’ll stay here and write the analysis report. Generally, no one will disturb you here. In the meantime, I’ll add some basic lab equipment here. I look forward to your report.”

After Ji Niang finished speaking, she was about to turn and leave.

”Hey! Teacher, there’s no paper and pen here.”

”That is a problem...”

Ji Niang’s steps faltered, and she came back to the side of the experimental table.

”If you can, you should also try to learn how to use the various devices here. This experimental table is equipped with a comprehensive system driven by Earth Veins. The specific principle is very complex, but you can understand it as an Earth Vein Energy-driven computer.”

As Ji Niang spoke, a semi-transparent screen of light appeared on the experimental table.

I have to say, it really looked like a computer.

And this one was manually controlled, which was even more advanced and cooler than a touchscreen.

”Just write it in this log. I’ll read it here and analyze your report for you later.”

After Ji Niang finished adjusting it, she pointed at the blank screen and said, ”Little Han, for people your age who are full of curiosity, it shouldn’t be hard to figure out how to use this on your own, right?”

”It’s not hard.”

My eyes were blazing as I stared at the light screen, my eagerness almost impossible to conceal.

”I’m relieved then. If you have any questions, you can come ask me, or you can directly search on your phone. The Academy System has a data library search function. You can even search for how to use the Earth Vein operating system on this research table. Well... I’ll be heading back now.”

”Mhm, take care, Teacher.”

I said, lowering my head.

I never expected the Academy System to have such a function to be able to search for questions.

Wouldn’t that be just like an external search engine?

You should have told me earlier.

If I had known about this sooner, I could have searched for so many things.

It would be great to just search for anything I don’t understand, right?

I temporarily put that thought aside.

What I needed most right now was to complete the analysis report Ji Niang had asked for.

And I also had to figure out how to use that Earth Vein operating system in a limited amount of time.

I first came to the light screen of the already-opened log.

From the perspective of Spirit Vision, this light screen was composed of Earth Vein Energy.

As I extended my hand, the Earth Vein Energy also had an interactive ”link” feeling with me because of my hand approaching.

As my hand moved, the light screen began to adjust its position.

After several attempts, I gradually became familiar with some of the tricks and also roughly figured out how to operate the information on the screen and how to input text, and so on.

Although the operation was much more complex than using a phone, if I got used to it, I would find that this method of control was very suitable for complex work environments.

This research table was simply a multi-functional desktop.

I really want to have one in my dorm room.

It’s much more interesting than a computer, but...

I don’t think I can install games or anything.

But what’s so great about games?

Just being cool to operate is enough!

After putting down the Earth Vein operating system, I walked over to the Spellbook.

To be honest, while I was getting familiar with the Earth Vein system just now, I had been suppressing my curiosity about this Spellbook.

After all, things had to be done one by one, and important things should only be started after all preparations were complete.

Now that I was familiar with the Earth Vein system, I could start observing the Spellbook.

I could record any discoveries directly in the log.

I gestured toward the light screen of the research table, and that screen floated toward me.

This was a function I had just discovered, display screen following.

I was just trying it out now, but I didn’t expect it could follow me so far, which would make the operation even more convenient.

My gaze once again fell on the Spellbook in front of me.

I had observed Spellbooks closely before, but I hadn’t delved into them, because the cost of delving in was too high.

It would make me involuntarily sink into the perspective of Spirit Vision, seeing too much information that my brain couldn’t understand.

The ultimate result would be a throbbing headache for an entire day, and that was a good situation.

But now was different.

Before, I was cautious.

Now, I can look boldly and confident.

This wasn’t just because my control over Spirit Vision had inexplicably improved during that meditation session with Tan Han, but also because if I encountered any danger from using Spirit Vision, Teacher Ji Niang was right next to me, and she should have noticed in time... well... probably...

In any case, I need to master this ability now.

I closed my eyes, and when I opened them again, the world in front of me had changed.

Even the Spellbook in front of me was no longer as mysterious and unknown as before.

I had actively opened and delved into the information of the Spirit Vision.

The shock this gave me was even more terrifying than I had imagined, but I slowly adapted to it.

My hands rested on the edge of the table, and my sight was focused on the Spellbook.

At this moment, my ”vision” was a bit blurry from the impact of the terrifying information feedback, but I was still trying to tease it out slowly.

The outermost layer of the Spellbook was a layer of energy that enveloped it, while the inside was a terrifyingly complex and highly integrated structure.

At this moment, I understood that if I didn’t have the corresponding cognition, I could only describe its simplest information and couldn’t describe the operation of its internal structure, even if I could see the connections within this structure very clearly.

After holding on for a little longer, my right hand pressed against my forehead and then slowly moved to my eyes.

Enduring such deep information feedback from Spirit Vision, even for this short amount of time, was too much for me.

I sat down on the ground with a thump.

Thankfully, I had cleaned the floor beforehand.

I leaned against the side of the table, and the light screen of the Earth Vein system was still by my side, which I found to be very convenient.

I needed to quickly record the content I had just seen.

I could feel that the information was too cluttered.

If I didn’t record it quickly, my brain would force itself to forget so much information as a self-protection measure.

As I rapidly recorded the fragmented information in the log, the log was quickly filled with text.

Although what I wrote was very fragmented and even incoherent, for me, this was just a fast way to record, a keyword recording method.

Write down as much information as possible in the fastest way.

Then, in the second round, I would use my remaining memory and the keywords to supplement and complete the memory.

Fortunately, the log had an information sorting function.

After sorting it out, the initial observation record of the analysis report was almost complete.

After just a bit more work on the sentence order and paragraphing, this would be what I considered a perfect start to a report.

But having finished writing, I also felt the limitations of language.

The feedback from that information far exceeded what language could express.

Ji Niang telling me to combine text and pictures was not to make things difficult for me but to provide me with a way to better express what I saw.

But even with a combination of text and pictures, the limitations of language and images were still too great.

Fortunately, there were simple ways to draw images, such as the ability to do 3D modeling and 2D export.

And creating models on this kind of three-dimensional modeling system was even simpler, to the point of being dummy-proof.

”Hmm? What’s wrong? Starting to slack off?”

Just as I was resting, a voice came over, making me jump.

It was Ji Niang’s voice!

Darn, I was caught being lazy.

But I was just trying to adjust my state to prepare for the next deep Spirit Vision observation.

”N-no, it’s just that using Spirit Vision is too strenuous...”

I quickly explained.

”Oh? That strenuous? Let me see your results.”

A hint of surprise flashed in Ji Niang’s eyes.

She then walked over to me, and with a wave of her hand, the light screen in front of me floated to her.

”That I haven’t...”

”I know. I just came to see how you were progressing.”

Ji Niang interrupted me with a smile, and then her attention was completely focused on my records.

”Hmm... I’m very surprised. Other than your language expression being a bit poor, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong. Wait... you even completed the 3D model of the Spellbook’s energy shell? And you even marked the internal energy?”

”Um... I haven’t finished this model yet...”

I explained in a low voice.

”You can see more things?”

Ji Niang looked up at me again.

”Mhm... it’s just... I don’t know how to express it in words, and drawing and modeling don’t seem to be able to perfectly convey the information feedback I receive from my Spirit Vision...”

”Is that so? Don’t worry, that’s normal.”

Ji Niang just thought for a moment before comforting me, and her tone became gentle.

It seemed she was quite satisfied with my performance.

”Then... What should I do? That information can no longer be recorded in words or images. If it can’t be recorded, then that information is meaningless.”

”That is indeed a problem, but for you right now, there’s no way to solve it. Some information truly cannot be expressed in ordinary language. Language is a medium for carrying information, but it’s not the only one.”

Ji Niang slid the light screen to the side.

”I imagine you also can’t understand a lot of the information that Spirit Vision brings, right?”

”Mhm.”

I nodded immediately.

”This is a cognitive limitation. Information is information, and cognition is cognition. A life form cannot imagine something it has never seen. Without a comparison, information cannot be converted into something the life form can understand.”

As Ji Niang spoke, she walked toward the door again.

”But don’t worry about this for now. We’ll talk about it this afternoon. I told you I’d treat you to lunch. Let’s go.”

”Huh? It’s already

noon?”

I subconsciously looked at the time on my phone and confirmed it.

I didn’t expect time to pass so quickly.

”Yeah. If you don’t have a good lunch, you won’t have the energy for the afternoon. Let’s go.”
