Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 116: The Limitations of a Spellbook

An hour passed quickly, and I didn’t pay to extend the time.

After all, it was a complete waste of money; I might as well have given it to Dongli Yiren as a tip.

When I left, I made sure to give Dongli Yiren a five-star review, and only after getting a photo of her in a private maid outfit with her autograph did I leave in satisfaction.

I looked back at the maids who were still bidding me farewell.

Indeed, this money wasn’t spent in vain.

It was quite a wondrous experience.

It was also an unexpected gain.

After all, you never know how wild your roommates can get behind your back.

Speaking of which, what was Guan Qiuling doing right now?

She said she was going to find a senior.

She’s probably practicing some high-difficulty moves again.

I hope I don’t stumble upon such things.

Just now in the cafe, I didn’t just deal with the class group chat issue; I also asked Dongli Yiren about her class situation.

Dongli Yiren was assigned to Class 105.

The difference in class numbers was truly huge, and they might not even have classes in the same building.

However, classes didn’t have fixed classrooms anyway, so no one could say for sure.

But at this stage, she hadn’t received a group invitation from her class president.

She didn’t even know what her counselor looked like, let alone who the class president was.

It seemed my situation was a special case.

The position of class president was probably not that easy to select, so the establishment of a class group chat probably wasn’t urgent either, right?

After all, not everyone in the class had arrived yet.

For the remaining time in the cafe, I continued reading the book Analysis of Spellbook Construction.

Although it was a popular science book, the content inside was all common knowledge I urgently needed to understand.

For example, the existence of spellbooks.

The threshold for creating a spellbook was the level of a Transcendent witch, so I would put aside the matter of developing and creating a spellbook myself for now.

If you were to break down a spellbook, you would find that this non-physical existence with one-click, user-friendly operation was a comprehensive entity of spells and rituals.

And it explained what spells were, and what rituals were.

A spell is a means of causing a phenomenon that transcends nature through a series of operations.

It requires corresponding transcendent knowledge and mystical knowledge to master this means more ”effectively” and ”scientifically.”

A ritual, on the other hand, is an action that enhances the effect of a spell.

Any operation that is part of a spell and cannot be explained by existing transcendent knowledge and mystical principles is called a ”ritual.”

This was a relatively ”scientific” summary, or rather, a one-sided explanation of ”rituals.”

After all, this was a popular science book.

It would be a huge problem if the explanations in it were incomprehensible.

Of course, a spellbook naturally included more than just this.

There were many more functions inside.

For example, the Cleaning Spell the shopkeeper gave me had a ”user manual” for the spell, which was also a type of information that could be added.

What surprised me even more was that a spellbook could be transferred.

It was just that I couldn’t do such a thing at my current stage, but it was enough to explain many things.

Also, the human body was just a good carrier for the existence of a spellbook, not the only one.

Thus, situations arose where a spellbook was carried by a non-human body.

This situation was classified as a magical tool, its function somewhat overlapping with methods like solidified spell, but if a tool with good carrying capacity was found, it was also a very good medium for storing spellbooks.

Most spellbooks were collected in this form, just like how Xia Li had many such spellbooks in her little private stash.

And precisely because the carrying capacity of spellbooks varied across different carriers, there were differences when different people used the same spell.

The so-called fact that the constitutions of people cannot be generalized was probably this.

The effect of a spell was not only related to personal constitution but also had a lot to do with the mobilized mental power.

Take me, for example; my mental power was tested to be of a pan-affinity attribute back then.

Basically, it’s a jack-of-all-trades, the kind with no bonuses for any effect.

Fortunately, it wasn’t weakened, which was already very good.

If someone’s mental power was inclined towards elemental fire affinity, then when she used the Fireball spellbook, the power might be even greater.

This was probably about the relationship between a spellbook and its user.

And spellbooks themselves also had many usage rules and limitations, which was the main content explained in this popular science book.

To put it bluntly, a spellbook could be classified as a ”tool” to help people use spells.

Therefore, looking at it from this perspective, many parameters would naturally appear, such as casting time, locking ability, error rate, burst potential, stability, durability, cooldown time, and so on.

Even with the same spellbook, there could be subtle differences.

After roughly reading through these, I had only one thought: if a person were to detach from a spellbook, could they cast spells independently?

If a person were powerful enough, they wouldn’t be restricted by these parameters of the spellbook.

Things like cooldown time and casting speed would all be useless.

Could a person become that powerful perhaps not, but what about a Transcendent witch who had reached the Transcendent level?

That should be feasible, right?

Even my current mental power was enough to disturb the energy in the air, but I couldn’t use spells.

It was as if I was in water, my mental power was my hand, and the water was the transcendent elements in the air.

My hand could easily stir the water, but I couldn’t freely control the water to do what I wanted.

And the spellbook, at this moment, was like a water gun.

Holding it, I could make fixed use of the water.

If one day I became a master of playing with water, forming a wall of water with a wave of my hand, and flinging a ball of water with a raise of my hand, that would be truly desirable, even more freeing than using a water gun.

But this was not something that could be achieved overnight.

Right now, if I wanted to master power, then I should master more ”water guns.”

If I wanted to break free from the limitations of the water guns, then I should disassemble them and see what principles they used to manipulate the ”water.”

As for how to disassemble a spellbook, isn’t Spirit Vision my best tool?

Spirit Vision was another perspective for observing the transcendent world.

It would present everything before me in meticulous detail, but I couldn’t read it, nor could I understand it.

What I needed now was to learn how to use Spirit Vision well.

Looks like it’s time to go to the library and find a book on Spirit Vision.

Before I came into contact with a Transcendent Academy, the explanations and speculations about Spirit Vision from those ordinary people were just for novelty’s sake, performing their self-consistent logical views to gain likes.

It would be a joke to take them seriously.

Of course, I don’t deny that their ”pseudo-science popularization” did build up my yearning for the transcendent for a period of time.

Sometimes, people just want an answer, regardless of whether it’s right or wrong; they just need to decide whether to believe it or not.

As long as the derivation process is embellished to make it convincing, then it is meaningful.

It’s like how people view the world, emotionally or rationally, materialistically or idealistically.

I should also find a way I approve of to understand this world that possesses the transcendent.
