Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 131: Successfully Casting Fireball on the First Try is Normal, Okay?

In the afternoon, Ji Niang took me to continue our research on the spellbook.

However, the Fireball spellbook was currently inside my body.

Ji Niang did not take it out, saying that there was no need to remove something she had given me.

Today’s lesson was a combination of theory and practice.

Ji Niang was responsible for explaining the principles of how the spellbook works, while I would attempt to use the spell.

According to Teacher Ji Niang, using a spellbook also required very specialized skills and knowledge to be used ”correctly” and without error.

Spells like my Cleaning Spell, which had no harmful effects, could naturally be used with brute force, simply following the instructions.

After all, its internal structure limited the spell’s damage and power supply.

Because of these limitations, the spell also had a usage method: ”over-limit” usage.

This over-limit usage could exceed the spellbook’s specified damage cap, power supply cap, or both.

However, using a spellbook in this way was very damaging to it.

After all, a spellbook that was separated from its user would naturally be destroyed.

How could over-limit usage not destroy it?

Therefore, no one would risk destroying their own spellbook to use it in an over-limit way, unless they didn’t want the spellbook anymore.

Moreover, a spellbook’s ”over-limit” use wasn’t something just anyone could do.

Most people only used a spellbook, and its structure provided a Mental Power interface for casting spells.

Once they understood the spellbook, they would only know one way to use it.

If you wanted to ”mod” a spell, even if you were a senior student who could control magic power, you wouldn’t be able to do it.

It was like wanting to make an electronic device operate at over-capacity.

Would simply increasing the voltage and current make it over-perform?

Maybe, but it would just break faster.

So if you wanted to ”mod” a spellbook, you couldn’t succeed without understanding some principles.

I was a newbie who had just entered the Transcendent world.

I didn’t understand many theoretical concepts and lacked the necessary knowledge.

It was like an ordinary person wanting to modify their electronic device at home, not understanding Ampère’s law, electromagnetic induction, or other such things.

They would be completely in the dark, not even knowing the precautions or under what circumstances electricity could kill a person.

This was my current situation.

Luckily, I knew that magic power riots could lead to death, but I didn’t know which internal structure of the spellbook to modify, and I might accidentally cause it to explode.

But it didn’t matter.

Some things, even if you don’t understand the principles, you can find patterns.

Most laws are discovered before theorems are formulated.

It was like asking if a mobile phone repair person still remembered the electromagnetic theorems they learned in physics class.

Probably not.

I was in the same boat now.

Ji Niang said she would regularly explain the principles and Transcendent theorems to me, but there was no rush for that.

Those theorems were meant to help ordinary people better use Transcendent power and served as rules to be followed for those who couldn’t see the essence of the Transcendent at a glance.

But I had Spirit Vision.

I could see the essence of the Transcendent at a glance, down to the subtle internal structural information, energy flow, and distribution.

I might not know the ”why,” but I could directly see the patterns.

Discovering phenomena, summarizing patterns, and applying patterns this was what I needed to do.

Those who couldn’t see the essence had to cautiously follow the principles, hoping that the Transcendent-level laws would operate according to the theorems from a macroscopic perspective.

After all that talking, Ji Niang seemed a little tired.

She used to be a substitute teacher and felt very relaxed.

She didn’t even have to care if the students learned anything.

But this was the first time she had taught a one-on-one class, and she was explaining the principles so carefully to someone, caring about whether they understood.

”Did you understand the structures I just explained?”

”Um... I understand some of it, but...”

”Then let’s just do practical work. Practice is the best way to test things,” Ji Niang didn’t listen to the rest of my sentence.

After all, these were things that even she couldn’t explain thoroughly.

Only when a person actually used them would they understand the principles.

Language was a form of communication with a limited amount of information.

It couldn’t perfectly express everything and its internal principles.

People also couldn’t rely on language to build an equal understanding for another person.

Therefore, the ”barrier-free communication” in the Dream State was a form of communication that bypassed the linguistic level.

But using it also had limitations.

Otherwise, Ji Niang would have long since applied this teaching method in her classes.

And if this method could be promoted at a very low cost, Witch Academy probably wouldn’t exist in the real world.

It would be built directly in the Dream State!

”Huh? Just do it now? Where?”

I asked, a little excited.

After being stopped by Senior Tang Yihan that time, I hadn’t dared to use an offensive spell, such as the Solidified Spell on the Badge from the Witch Four-Piece Set.

I was afraid the spell’s power would be too terrifying, causing me to damage things and have to pay for them, so I still didn’t know how powerful a Fireball was that Senior Tang Yihan was so wary of.

”Right here. This is a laboratory. The walls have been reinforced with spells, and besides, I’m here, aren’t I?”

Ji Niang could naturally see my excitement, so she immediately explained.

Then, without waiting for me to ask any more questions, she walked to a deliberately cleared area.

”This is it. I’ll solidify a spell here.”

Ji Niang bent down, and some materials appeared in her hand.

With a series of operations I didn’t understand, an exquisite-looking magic circle appeared on the floor.

”It’s a temporary Solidified Spell. It’ll do for now. I’ll get some more materials later to reinforce the stability of this spell.”

Ji Niang clapped her hands and turned to look at me.

”What? Are you curious about what this spell is?”

”Mmm, mmm.”

I nodded immediately.

I really couldn’t understand this spell that was solidified on the ground, and it didn’t seem to have any effect, but through Spirit Vision, I could still see that the spell enveloped this area.

”It’s a spatial type spell, I guess. You probably won’t be able to understand the specific principles for now. If you have to understand it, just imagine that this spell increases the resistance within this space.”

”The effect of this is to delay all sorts of reactions inside, like a Fireball explosion, just like a slow-motion scene in a movie. That’s all the explanation for now, let’s begin.”

Ji Niang didn’t say any more.

After all, this spell involved space, and the principles alone would take who knows how long to explain, let alone make the other person understand.

So Ji Niang came directly to my side, pushed me, and stopped me next to this Solidified Spell.

”Want to try and test the effect of this spell with your hand?”

”I can try?”

I tilted my head and asked.

”Of course. Just put one hand in and you’ll know. This spell is not dangerous in essence.”

”Okay.”

I nodded and extended my hand, slowly reaching toward that area.

And soon my hand felt like it had sunk into a very viscous liquid, while to my normal sight, there was nothing in front of me.

In the Spirit Vision perspective, I could clearly see my fingers passing through the area covered by the spell.

The feeling was very strange.

There was a sense of stagnation like being in a viscous liquid, but without any squeezing sensation.

When I moved my hand, it was like moving through gelatin.

After I pulled my hand back, everything felt as if nothing had happened.

”It’s pretty amazing, isn’t it?”

”Yeah.”

”Then try to cast Fireball here,” Ji Niang said, pointing to the spot.

”Just a simple Fireball?”

I subconsciously asked, but my hand was already extended.

I didn’t use a Magic Wand, since a Magic Wand was also part of casting and might add unnecessary interference to a simple experiment.

My Mental Power connected with the Fireball spellbook.

I had a very clear understanding of its internal structure, but not a thorough comprehension.

However, using it wasn’t that complicated.

I could feel the spellbook begin to actively draw magic power from my Magic Power Source after my Mental Power connected with it.

The amount it drew was even greater than what the Cleaning Spell took!

In fact, after this Fireball spell was cast, it might even drain a Magic Power Source completely!

Why did it consume so much?

I didn’t even use up this much when casting a wide-range Cleaning Spell all at once!

”Is this your first time casting a spell? Don’t be so nervous. This is a normal consumption. Activate your Spirit Vision and see how the spellbook draws magic power and converts it into regular elemental energy internally.”

”Okay...”

With Teacher Ji Niang’s words, I felt at ease and tried to cast it boldly.

Magic power was drawn into the spellbook and, under the spellbook’s guidance, was converted into terrifying fire elemental energy.

The scorching heat rushed toward me.

In front of my outstretched palm, a beautiful ”magic circle” constructed from crimson energy appeared.

Mental Power seemed to be draining rapidly.

The one-time consumption was so great that it made me feel mentally dazed for a moment.

After all, it was the first time, and I wasn’t prepared.

But I could already feel the heat in front of me.

The spell was condensing!

The spellbook’s ritual was activated, which was the magic circle in front of me.

The fire element was highly condensed, forming a scorching Fireball in front of me.

This wasn’t just a simple flame.

From the fire snakes constantly rolling and coiling on the outside of the Fireball, it looked like this Fireball had taken a powerful explosive, creating terrifying ripples that made my heart palpitate.

When the Fireball reached its limit, I knew I needed to launch it.

As the Fireball left the front of my palm, the magic circle ritual in front of me also shattered.

The fire element inside seemed to have been completely drained by the Fireball, giving the Fireball one final push before dissipating.

And after the Fireball rapidly crashed into the Solidified Spell’s space, everything seemed to be paused.

The Fireball solidified in mid-air.

Only the heatwave in front of me proved its power from just a moment ago.

”Not bad. You succeeded in casting Fireball on your first try,” Ji Niang praised from the side.

”Can you even fail when casting a spell from a spellbook?”

I asked, tilting my head.

After all, a spellbook was like a firearm.

You look at the manual, learn how to disengage the safety, load the bullet, and chamber it, then casting the spell is as simple as pulling the trigger.

Now that Ji Niang was praising me, saying ”Not bad, you fired a bullet on your first try,” I found it difficult to tell if she was being sarcastic.

At this moment, Ji Niang was also looking at me with a strange expression, as if she were looking at a humblebrag...
