The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Baking complete.

The kitchen hand took the baked food, plated it, and handed it to the serving staff.

The next second, an electronic notification sounded in Fu Yu’s ear:

[Ding! NPC Godfather Zhao Meng’s long-term chain task: Accomplish all set targets, surpass Che Yuhang, and break through all his achievements one by one, as promised. Set Task (1) Complete 500 times of barbecue cooking, successfully completed, reward received: a culinary vocabulary dictionary.]

Finally got hold of this culinary vocabulary dictionary!

Fu Yu was delighted, just about to flip through the dictionary when Master Chen suddenly said, ”All right, Xiaofu, you’ve been busy all day, the cold dish section should be off work soon, go with Chef Zhang.”

The task was completed, and Fu Yu didn’t decline further. After saying goodbye, he followed Zhang Zhen to the cold dish section, where Zhang Zhen gave some instructions to the night shift kitchen hands to continue cleaning up, while the others headed to the locker room to prepare to clock out.

Fu Yu chatted with Zhang Zhen as they walked and realized he was walking ahead of Chef Liu and Chef Lin, which made him feel a bit uneasy.

He was just a part-time cook, and it wasn’t customary for the cook to walk in front with the chefs following behind in such a situation, was it?

Fu Yu instinctively slowed down, intending to let Chef Liu and Chef Lin go first.

However, as he slowed down, Zhang Zhen also slowed down. Chef Liu and Chef Lin behind them matched their pace and also slowed down.

This...

Fu Yu glanced at Zhang Zhen walking beside him casually, then looked back at Chef Liu and Chef Lin, who appeared calm.

Could it be that Chef Liu and Chef Lin were afraid of the leadership in private?

Didn’t want to walk with Zhang Zhen?

Thinking this way, Fu Yu felt relieved and began to walk at a normal pace again.

It seems, at any time, maintaining a good relationship with the leadership is necessary!

Just like how Zhao Meng treats Yao Shi like a buddy, never having such worries.

It was the evening rush hour.

After politely declining Zhang Zhen’s offer to give him a ride, Fu Yu took a taxi directly back to Qianlima.

Sitting in the taxi, Fu Yu seized the moment to relax and eagerly opened the task reward he just received.

[Culinary Vocabulary Dictionary: Many cooking beginners are confused by vague terms like ”appropriate amount” and ”a little” while learning to cook and can’t grasp the meaning, so a culinary vocabulary dictionary serves as a supplementary reference.]

How incredibly sensible!

Indeed!

When Fu Yu first started learning to cook, he hated the term ”appropriate amount” the most.

Who knows how much an appropriate amount is? This was completely the most difficult term for him to understand.

Now it’s fine!

Although he relied on a good sense of touch and wasn’t afraid of these ambiguous terms while cooking anymore, it’s still beneficial for communication purposes to be able to accurately explain these terms to others.

The first person Fu Yu thought of was Sun Qingning.

He often asked about the meanings of these vague terms, and his limited knowledge was not enough to grasp them well.

With this culinary vocabulary dictionary, he no longer worried about being asked for advice.

During the rest of the ride, Fu Yu was immersed in learning about the culinary terminology.

[Low heat (small fire)]: Refers to the flame not touching the bottom of the pot.

[Medium heat]: Refers to the flame’s tip touching the bottom of the pot.

[Thin slice (cut thin slices)]: Approximately 2mm, no need to measure with a ruler, just feeling about right is enough.

[Stir occasionally]: No need to stir constantly, slow and gentle motion is enough.

[Cook until soft]: The point where a bamboo skewer can be easily inserted.

[Slightly bring to a boil]: After boiling, just wait a moment, and if persisting in perfection, count 30 seconds after boiling.

[Appropriate amount]: Adding as much as you like, remember to taste continuously to see if it suits your preference.

...

This is too comprehensive, too detailed, too convenient!

With such a culinary vocabulary dictionary in hand, no complex terms can stump him in the future.

Fu Yu was very pleased with this reward.

However, on second thought, the goal of this task was to surpass Che Yuhang, and achieve all his achievements one by one.

This meant that Che Yuhang’s barbecuing skills were already at a high level.

So could the culinary vocabulary reward he received also be related to Che Yuhang?

Thinking back carefully about Che Yuhang’s culinary learning path.

Fu Yu was silent.

It’s hard to say whether it’s because of Che Yuhang’s influence.

After all, to surpass someone, one must first learn all their skills and then conquer them one by one.

In the future, he might unlock various skills from Che Yuhang consecutively.

Thinking that these tasks might have possibly been extracted from Che Yuhang, Fu Yu suddenly felt like he was milking a cash cow!

Once this long-term task is successfully completed, he should be able to grasp almost all of Che Yuhang’s skills and surpass them one by one.

Thinking about this, Fu Yu couldn’t help but feel happy.

Returning to Qianlima, it was only just past seven-thirty.

The kitchen was busy with orders.

Fu Yu took the day off and went straight back to the dormitory.

Ever since Fu Yu paid the down payment for the new house, his parents’ main hobby has been collecting and understanding various home decoration topics every day.

From ceiling and wall plastering to waterproofing and floor tiling.

They even followed several public accounts and short video influencers who specialize in explaining various renovation topics.

Lately, Fu Yu often received links forwarded by his parents at odd times:

[Video: Don’t know renovation, living for three years is worse than living in a kennel! (from a TikTok-like app)]

Mr. and Mrs. Fu were diligently immersed in various renovation-related knowledge, eagerly wanting to pull Fu Yu into this sea of learning as well.

So, now every evening during family phone calls, the three of them would have detailed discussions about things like cabinet colors and countertop materials—whether marble or stainless steel.

Across the phone, Fu Yu listened to his parents enthusiastically discussing all their ideas about the new house, cooperating with them by occasionally putting forth his own suggestions.

Because of the distance, he couldn’t be with his parents all the time, so chatting on the phone like this gave him a strong sense of warmth and happiness.

After chatting with his parents for nearly half an hour, Fu Yu hadn’t had enough when his mother urged him to end the call.

The old lady learned from some short video that phone calls supposedly emit some radiation, not severe, but it’s better not to talk too long on the phone, especially not over half an hour.

For Fu Yu’s health, Mrs. Fu has always strictly followed this time limit.

Fu Yu found it both amusing and endearing.
