The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 597: Chapter 596: Blood Test for Kinship

Xia Wanqing couldn’t understand, so he couldn’t help thinking more. He looked at Xia Xiaozhe, then at Xia Xinxin, and finally his gaze fell on Xia Xinxin.

Xia Xiaozhe was older and certainly already married.

But it was Xia Xinxin, whose age was similar.

He thought to himself, could it be that this one also harbors feelings for Wenjin?

A daughter knows her father best. Seeing Xia Wanqing’s scrutinizing gaze, Xia Wenjin was speechless. She said, ”Father, the word ’Xia’ cannot be written without two strokes. We share the same surname, so 500 years ago we were one family. Otherwise, why would Uncle Xia help us?”

Xia Wanqing detected the reproach in his daughter’s words and came to his senses. Wenjin didn’t even fancy Huangfu Yuxuan, so she must have already had a crush on that young lad she met before.

He smiled and said, ”Well said, the word ’Xia’ cannot be written without two strokes.” He turned to Huangfu Yuxuan and said, ”Young Master Yuxuan, my apologies! Thank you for your kindness, but today I must first thank the father of these two brothers. They helped Wenjin so much. It’s also because of my matter, and it would be ungrateful if I didn’t go. Another day, I’ll host and we two shall have a good drink together!”

Although Huangfu Yuxuan was displeased in his heart, his face showed no sign of it. He even smiled and said, ”Uncle Xia, your loyalty and righteousness only earn my admiration! Please go ahead, Uncle Xia, we’ll gather again next time!”

Xia Wanqing saw Huangfu Yuxuan was straightforward and pleasant in words, so he nodded with a smile.

Huangfu Yuxuan said, ”Then I shall take my leave now!”

Xia Wenjin helped Xia Wanqing and said, ”Father, get on the carriage first!”

Xia Xiaozhe said, ”My carriage is quite spacious. Chief Xia, why not sit with us brothers?”

Xia Wanqing understood immediately that these two brothers had something to discuss with him. He glanced at Xia Wenjin, saw her nodding with a smile, and figured she already knew what was going to be discussed.

Xia Wanqing was straightforward himself, and he was curious, so he laughed and said, ”That’s nice, but the carriage of these young masters is clean and nice, and I’ve been in a cell for a few days. I must smell awful!”

Xia Xiaozhe said, ”Chief Xia, what are you saying? You’ve been wronged, but now the truth is out. For gentlemen, sincerity matters more than minor details!”

Xia Xinxin, listening to them, was quite impatient. His brother was vague, seemingly mindful of someone present. Instead of calling him third uncle, they had to call him Chief. Such trouble.

He said directly, ”Chief Xia, just sit with us. Since you feel uncomfortable for not having bathed for days, it’s even more so you shouldn’t sit with Wenjin. What if she finds it smelly? She’s a girl and isn’t like us boys who don’t mind these things.”

Xia Wanqing chuckled but sensed Xia Xinxin’s intention to be close, so he didn’t refuse and boarded the Xia brothers’ carriage.

Xia Wenjin smiled, thinking whether this kinship is real or not, she would leave it to her father to figure out.

However, the Xia brothers had helped her a lot today. Otherwise, even if her father didn’t leave with Huangfu Yuxuan, he would surely have invited him home. Cook for him? She wouldn’t like that at all!

It wasn’t clear what the Xia brothers told Xia Wanqing, but upon arriving at the Right Minister’s Mansion and getting off the carriage, Xia Wenjin noticed her father looked bewildered.

Obviously, this matter shook him a bit.

However, the Xia brothers were enthusiastic, welcoming the father and daughter inside. Prime Minister Xia couldn’t come out to greet them, but he was at the entrance.

Judging from the scene, it was clear that Prime Minister Xia valued this. Whether it was due to sincerity or eagerness for family reunion, the Right Minister’s Mansion showed its genuine intent.

Upon seeing Xia Wanqing, Xia Shi’en exclaimed excitedly, ”Third brother!”

Xia Wanqing was still quite puzzled, scratching his head awkwardly and said, ”Well, Brother Xia, thank you for your righteous help. Without you, I wouldn’t have been free from injustice. However, my apologies, I might not be your third brother. Though we share the same surname, this is too unbelievable!”

Xia Shi’en didn’t mind and said, ”Brother Xia, do you remember things from your childhood? When you were five or six?”

Xia Wanqing shook his head: ”Not a trace!”

”Well, do you know your father’s name?”

Xia Wanqing shook his head and said, ”I don’t know this. I grew up with my master. According to him, I should be an orphan with no knowledge of my parents!”

Xia Xiaozhe said, ”Third uncle, perhaps back then, you got separated from my father when you were too young, or some events caused your memory gaps! Actually, it’s easy to verify if it’s true. We should do a blood verification!”

Everyone agreed with this suggestion.

On the other side, Xia Shi’en ordered people to prepare. Xia Wanqing thought it unlikely and quietly told Xia Wenjin, ”Jin’er, I think this Prime Minister Xia might be yearning for his brother and mistook me for it because we share the same name. After the blood verification, if we’re not related, it might be awkward. It’s really unexpected!”

Xia Wenjin smiled, ”Uncle Xia, as a Right Minister, has a broad heart. Even if it’s not true, he won’t make things difficult for us. If it is true, you gain another family member, don’t you, Father?”

Xia Wanqing sighed, ”I’m a wanderer of Jianghu, how could I have connections to high court officials? I’m also not patient with those complexities; life’s more comfortable at Haotian Village!”

Xia Wenjin’s eyes brightened, ”Father, you finally figured it out. Are you planning to return to Haotian Village?”

Xia Wanqing sighed, ”How can I return now? Your father owes so many favors, I need to repay one by one before I can leave!”

Xia Wenjin said, ”Actually, you don’t need to, let me help you repay them. You just need to return to the village at ease!”

Xia Wanqing glanced at Xia Wenjin, saying, ”Jin’er, your two uncles cannot leave either. Since the three of us came together, I can’t leave them behind! This matter, let’s talk about it later!”

Xia Wenjin wasn’t disappointed, or rather, she was prepared. If her father could easily change his mind, she wouldn’t need to run from marriage.

The preparation for the blood verification wasn’t complicated, and it didn’t take long.

A servant brought in a tray with a small, white porcelain bowl, which was filled with clear water.

Xia Shi’en first cut a small slit on his fingertip and let a drop of blood fall into the bowl.

With water in the bowl, the drop of blood fell with a dingle sound, like a red gem falling onto a jade plate, its red strikingly visible.

Xia Wanqing also cut his fingertip and let a drop of blood fall in too.

In front of Xia Wenjin, he seemed calm and indifferent about this kinship verification, but inside, he also had a bit of hope.

Ever since he was taken in by his master, he had lived for years without knowing his origins. Even though he was already a father, if there were brothers in this world, it would ultimately be a fortunate thing.

Several pairs of eyes were fixed on the white porcelain bowl.
