The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 565: Chapter 565: Of Course We’re Close

Xia Wenjin forced a smile through gritted teeth: ”Young Master Xuan is truly noble and righteous, I am deeply grateful. I was just overwhelmed with gratitude earlier, so I spoke rather bluntly. I hope young master won’t hold it against me!”

Huangfu Yuxuan smiled slightly: ”It’s nothing, really. We have an engagement, and Uncle Xia is my future father-in-law. Uncles Hua and Gu are like family to me as well. I’ll do my best!”

Xia Wenjin said: ”Then thank you very much!”

When it comes to shamelessness, Huangfu Yuxuan is absolutely unmatched.

Seeing that Xia Wenjin no longer spoke in an ”insolent” manner, the two engaged in a back-and-forth exchange. Xia Wanqing felt comforted; he had high hopes for Huangfu Yuxuan. But Wenjin’s attitude had always been bad, her heart unwilling. If they spent more time together and got to know each other better, Wenjin would surely be captivated by Yuxuan’s charm. By then, everything would fall into place.

He said: ”I have nothing much to do here. As you can see, I have enough food, a place to stay, and supplies. It’s just that I’m not allowed to go out. Once your Uncles Hua and Gu’s matters are cleared up and their names are cleared, naturally I’ll be fine too. This is a cell, staying here too long isn’t good. Wenjin, take Young Master Xuan out! You should leave too, I’ll be out soon!”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

She had just arrived, and her father was already trying to send her away.

It seemed he hadn’t given up trying to pair her with Huangfu Yuxuan.

She said: ”Father, I just came. I have questions to ask you!”

”There’s nothing to ask. I don’t really know the specifics. However, Young Master Xuan has been running around on my behalf, and he knows quite a bit. Just ask him directly!” Xia Wanqing said.

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

Is there a father in this world who’s this worried about his daughter not getting married?

She was only seventeen, wasn’t she?

Knowing that further argument wouldn’t change her father’s mind, she could only say, ”Fine, take care of yourself!” Annoyed, she naturally didn’t have a pleasant face for Huangfu Yuxuan. Turning around, she left first.

Huangfu Yuxuan’s lips curled into a slight smile. Indeed, handling matters with Xia Wanqing would bring great support, and his relationship with Xia Wenjin would gradually draw closer. As long as they got closer, he would eventually win the beautiful woman.

He cupped his fists toward Xia Wanqing and said: ”Uncle Xia, I’ll leave with Wenjin for now. I’ll keep an eye on your matters, and I’ll also look out for Uncles Hua and Gu to the best of my ability. Don’t worry!”

Xia Wanqing saw that he was still courteous at this time and felt a bit more satisfied: ”I appreciate it!”

Huangfu Yuxuan quickened his steps to catch up with Xia Wenjin.

Despite her frustration, Xia Wenjin remembered that this was inside a prison cell at the Ministry of Justice. Especially recalling the previous efforts that allowed her to visit her father, while Uncles Hua and Gu were burdened with the name of murderer, not even allowed to be visited. The situation was indeed dire.

She had no mind to argue with Huangfu Yuxuan over these matters.

Huangfu Yuxuan said: ”Wenjin!”

Xia Wenjin turned her head sharply and said coldly: ”Do I know you that well?” Addressing her so intimately, he sure didn’t consider himself an outsider.

Huangfu Yuxuan chuckled, ”You are my fiancée, of course we’re close!”

Xia Wenjin was furious and suddenly reached out. A short dagger slipped from her sleeve, pressing against Huangfu Yuxuan’s throat. Cui Huai and Hong Jie had been following behind. Seeing this, they were shocked. They shouted, ”What are you doing?”

”Drop the knife!”

Xia Wenjin was unmoved, her icy gaze fixed on Huangfu Yuxuan: ”Say that again, and I’ll kill you!”

Huangfu Yuxuan smiled brightly: ”But what I’m saying is the truth; you can’t deny it! Even Chief Xia is pleased with this, or do you want to be an unfilial daughter?”

The coldness in Xia Wenjin’s eyes almost turned to murderous intent. The dagger moved even closer, already touching Huangfu Yuxuan’s neck. Just a little more pressure and it would cut through. She said coldly, ”It doesn’t matter who’s pleased. No one can force me to marry someone I don’t want to!”

Huangfu Yuxuan leaned his head back, forced by the dagger, yet his face still wore a smile. He even extended a finger to press lightly against the back of the dagger. Finding it wouldn’t budge, he stopped pressing, speaking relaxedly: ”You can’t kill me. It’s not good to start waving knives and guns around!”

”You think I won’t dare?”

Huangfu Yuxuan said: ”If you could kill me, you would have done it already. After all, I’m an Imperial Grandson. If you kill me, it will only bring trouble with no benefits. Someone as smart as you wouldn’t do such a foolish thing!”

Xia Wenjin was furious—she did want to kill this guy to avenge her past life’s hatred. But she couldn’t be impulsive, because she wasn’t just herself; behind her was Haotian Village.

If she had nothing to hold on to, just by herself alone, what would killing a Huangfu Yuxuan matter?

She had to admit, what this guy said was correct. But because of that, her heart felt even more stifled. She sheathed the dagger, shot Huangfu Yuxuan a hateful glare, and turned to leave.

There, Cui Huai and Hong Jie were as tense as if facing a great enemy. They were extremely vigilant but didn’t dare come closer. Afraid that approaching would provoke the woman, she’d suddenly go berserk and end up killing their young master.

Just as they were thinking about how to rescue him, they saw their young master speak a few words, and the woman voluntarily put away her dagger. They couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

Huangfu Yuxuan said to Cui Huai and Hong Jie: ”I have something to say to Miss Xia. Both of you stay back a bit.”

Cui Huai and Hong Jie exchanged a glance. They didn’t dare disobey their master’s words, and they immediately stepped back.

Huangfu Yuxuan caught up with Xia Wenjin and said: ”Miss Xia, there’s a question I’ve always wanted to ask. No matter what, we have an engagement and are close. Yet why do you always treat me like an enemy? Actually, when you first saw me in the Capital City, you had already recognized me, right? But you hit me twice. Can I know why?”

He maintained an excellent posture, with a modest and humble attitude, speaking gently, manners between them displaying refined elegance.

If she hadn’t seen his true face in the previous life, having a good impression of such a person would be normal.

This showed that Huangfu Yuxuan knew very well how to use human nature to make people lower their guard and trust him.

But that’s just for others; Xia Wenjin would not believe him, nor would she let down her guard against him.

Xia Wenjin said indifferently: ”For no reason? There are people who, no matter how long you associate with, you can only treat as strangers. And yet, there are people you just met, and you click instantly. Isn’t this a saying—’To grow old as new friends, to meet by chance as if old acquaintances’—have you heard it?”

Huangfu Yuxuan: ”...”

He had these advantageous conditions, this handsome appearance, this knowledge of conversation, this graceful demeanor, this noble background...

Any of these should be enough to draw attention, shouldn’t they?

Yet why did this woman before him despise him so?

What does it matter if she despises him? What he wants will be his; the person he wants will still be his!
