The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 588: Chapter 587: Were You Adopted?

Xia Sichen knew that when he told Wenjin about the fortune-telling of the white-haired old man back then, Wenjin still remembered it.

But he didn’t want to hear any of that. He pointed at Xia Wenjin: ”You are not allowed to think about those nonsensical things. Back then, that old man said you wouldn’t live past sixteen, but you’ve already lived beyond that, so the disaster is already averted! Don’t talk about these things. And you!”

He pointed at Huangfu Jingchen: ”So young, why believe a charlatan? My sister is alive, so you have to be alive and treat her well. If you dare to die even a day earlier, I’ll come and whip your corpse!”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

Is this her brother suddenly turning into a little tyrant?

And what was he saying? Life and death are determined by fate, wealth and honor are in the hands of heaven, and he’s saying if someone dies earlier, he will whip the corpse? This kind of domineering and irrational behavior is simply incomprehensible!

Huangfu Jingchen earnestly replied: ”Okay!”

Okay? Xia Wenjin was stunned. He actually agreed to something so bizarre?

But Xia Sichen laughed heartily and said: ”Not bad, I actually think you’re much better than that other guy. From today on, I’ll acknowledge you as my brother-in-law, but you have to work hard. The son-in-law my dad favors isn’t you. You guys still have a long way to go!”

Is this arranging everything for her so clearly? Xia Wenjin rolled her eyes: ”What are you blabbering about? Dad is still in prison!”

”Didn’t we already turn a bad situation into a good one? The old man will learn from this mistake, which is a good thing! It saves him from always thinking that Imperial Grandson was so great!”

Xia Sichen picked up his chopsticks and reached for some food, but halfway through, he stared at the dish for a couple of seconds, sighed, and said: ”Looks pretty good!” After hesitating for a moment and feeling a bit scared, he put it down and asked: ”No wine?”

He had been tense, ready to storm the execution ground if necessary. Now that he knew his dad was okay, Xia Sichen truly felt relieved.

Xia Wenjin replied annoyedly: ”No, there’s only one jar, it’s for Dad and Uncle and Second Uncle.”

Xia Sichen snorted: ”Considering the old man went through tough times for the past couple of days, I won’t fight him for it. Hey, Huang Zheng, why are you standing there staring? Eat, my sister, though she speaks harshly, has a bit of a temper, isn’t the prettiest, is a bit spoiled and willful, and her cooking tastes bad, but the fact that she’s still willing to cook is a good quality! Don’t hesitate, eat it all, don’t leave any for me!”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

He really is her brother!

Huangfu Jingchen laughed: ”Brother Xia, were you adopted?”

Xia Sichen was startled: ”Why do you say that?”

Huangfu Jingchen casually picked up a piece of food with his chopsticks and said: ”You and Wenjin aren’t familiar at all, if not, how could you not know her well if you weren’t adopted?”

”How am I not familiar? Did I say anything wrong?” Xia Sichen put down his chopsticks, looking surprised.

Huangfu Jingchen said: ”Wenjin is kind-hearted, doesn’t have a bad temper, looks beautiful, isn’t willful, and her cooking is delicious! You didn’t get any of it right! Isn’t that unfamiliarity?”

”My sister’s cooking is good?” Xia Sichen burst into laughter, and while laughing, said: ”My sister can’t cook at all. I estimate these dishes can only be looked at, definitely not eaten. If you don’t believe me, don’t blame me for not warning you when you get deceived!”

Huangfu Jingchen ate some food, swallowed it, and then said: ”If you don’t eat, you’re the one missing out! Don’t blame me for not warning you!” After speaking, he picked several pieces of food for Xia Wenjin and continued eating.

Seeing him eating continuously without pause, Xia Sichen looked on and on again. He thought they must be putting on a show, pointed at the bowl of soup, and said: ”No need to pretend, if it tastes bad, just admit it, don’t try to fool me! Look, vegetable soup! Have you ever seen anyone making soup with vegetables?”

Xia Wenjin ignored him.

Huangfu Jingchen felt embarrassed, as the vegetables probably shouldn’t have been made into soup, probably because he had messed it up so there wasn’t much else left to do, so he turned it into soup. He scooped a spoonful into a bowl for himself, drank it, and then took several more sips, saying: ”Vegetable soup is tasty too!”

Xia Sichen was puzzled: ”Isn’t it bad?”

Xia Wenjin said: ”It tastes bad, you shouldn’t eat it!”

There were only three dishes and one soup on the table, originally intended for Xia Wenjin and Huangfu Jingchen. Xia Sichen just happened to arrive for dinner. Now seeing that half of the food was eaten and feeling hungry, Xia Sichen, after some thought, said courageously: ”Even if it’s bad, I’ll have some!”

With that, he once again picked up his chopsticks and put a piece of fish in his mouth.

Feeling a bit anxious, he wondered if it would be so salty that it would be inedible, or maybe she hadn’t added salt at all.

Hmm, it melts in the mouth, it’s fresh and fragrant?

Xia Sichen blinked, feeling something was off, and picked up another piece. After this piece, his eyes were widened, and his chopsticks went up and down like raindrops, eating rapidly.

He even had two bowls of the despised vegetable soup.

Strangely enough, it was clear water and vegetables, without a trace of oil, nothing else, yet how could this soup taste so good?

Looking at the empty plates on the table, he patted his full stomach, burping as he said: ”No wonder, I said how could my sister’s cooking be so good, turns out she claimed Aunt He’s cooking as her own!”

Xia Wenjin said: ”As long as you’re happy!”

She looked at Huangfu Jingchen, apologetically saying: ”Didn’t get enough to eat, right? I’ll make something good for you next time!”

Xia Sichen looked eagerly and said: ”What about me?”

Xia Wenjin snorted: ”Aunt He cooks well too, you surely can’t get used to the terrible food I make.”

”It’s not particularly bad, it’s alright.” Xia Sichen blinked, as he slung an arm around Huangfu Jingchen’s shoulder, saying: ”I say brother-in-law, in the future, whether or not I can eat well all depends on you!”

”Xia Sichen!” Xia Wenjin’s face flushed red. This scoundrel who would sell his sister for a bite to eat, how can a brother behave like this?

But Huangfu Jingchen listened with a heart brimming with joy.

Even though for the time being only Xia Sichen acknowledged him, he was confident he would also gain Uncle Xia’s approval.

The siblings laughed and played for a while, clearing away all the worries, resentment, helplessness, and exhaustion that had been building up in their hearts during recent days.

Xia Wenjin picked up the prepared food box and asked Xia Sichen: ”Take some wine and food to Dad and Second Uncle and Third Uncle, are you going?”

Xia Sichen glanced at Huangfu Jingchen and waved his hand: ”I’ll pass, the old man sees me the same as an adopted son and doesn’t treat me as his real son. If I go, won’t it just add to his frustration? You go!”

The jail was such a place that, ordinarily, he’d never let his sister go. However, the person his sister fancied needed to show his face in front of their dad to help quickly overthrow Huangfu Yuxuan, whose Imperial Grandson title seemed fake.

When is it most effective? Of course, it’s when you’re offering timely assistance during a crisis!

Moreover, having his sister around would also give them more time alone!

His heart was almost worn out with worry, he was indeed a real brother, no doubt about it!
