The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 586: Chapter 585: I Can Help

Xia Wenjin did not know about the dilemma in Huangfu Jingchen’s heart at that moment. She asked, ”Did you settle your matters in the Capital City?”

Huangfu Jingchen nodded and said, ”It’s mostly settled.” His eyes sparkled as he looked at Xia Wenjin and asked, ”Wenjin, you will stay in the Capital City, right?”

”Will you return to Yunzhou?”

Huangfu Jingchen said, ”I probably won’t be able to return for the time being!” Although he wanted to go back to Yunzhou, even though Prince Zhuang was no longer the Crown Prince, and the matter of the Princely Heir staying in the Capital City as a hostage should be concluded, he couldn’t go back because his Grandfather hadn’t given permission.

Xia Wenjin was not surprised. When he left Yunzhou for the Capital City, it seemed urgent. She jokingly said, ”Does your family have industries in the Capital City, and were you, this young master, assigned to manage them here?”

Looking at the girl’s smiling face, Huangfu Jingchen felt a slight relief as she finally stopped questioning his identity. Although he knew he wouldn’t be able to keep it a secret for long, he needed to find an appropriate opportunity to reveal it.

He was certain that if he disclosed his true identity now, the heart that Wenjin had just opened to him would surely shut immediately. She would avoid him and never meet him again.

He couldn’t take that risk.

He said, ”It’s not really about industries, but Grandfather is in the Capital City!”

Xia Wenjin understood and said, ”I see!” In Nanxia, filial piety is highly valued. It’s quite natural for him to come to the Capital since his grandfather lives there.

Suddenly, Xia Wenjin felt something was off. She glanced at him, her clear eyes filled with curiosity, ”Your grandfather is in the Capital City? So, is your family actually based here?”

Huangfu Jingchen said, ”Something like that!”

Xia Wenjin gave him another look, her eyes brimming with questions, ”So actually, you’re not a Yunzhou person but a Capital City person?”

Feeling uneasy, Huangfu Jingchen said, ”Something like that!”

Xia Wenjin furrowed her brows, but soon relaxed them again. Perhaps she was overthinking it. What does it matter if he was originally from the Capital City?

After all, men aim high, and it’s common for people to develop and settle elsewhere.

What if he’s from a wealthy family? With her current status, she’s already above many, so even if she’s attracted to him, she won’t be considered to be aiming too high!

Thinking about this, she felt a bit lost, realizing that her experiences over two lifetimes had indeed changed her a lot.

In her past life, she had dedicated everything for the sake of loving someone, ignoring everything else. She didn’t believe there would be obstacles on the path of love, and if there were, she would just remove them.

However, in this life, she finds herself considering more.

Even though her heart was moved, it became less pure.

She even thought, she only knew that he might come from a wealthy background, but she didn’t know his exact identity. She only knew his sincere heart, yet she had never met his family. She and he traveled the Jianghu together for more than a year, experiencing many things. Her heart was gradually warmed and melted by his fervor, and despite being unable to ignore her inner feelings, there remained numerous concerns.

But Huang Zheng did not.

Since when did Huang Zheng, after confirming his feelings, see only her?

He did not know her identity, nor did he know her family.

Even her brother and father had appeared, but she hadn’t introduced them to Huang Zheng. It wasn’t until this time in the Capital, when her father was wrongfully accused, that Huang Zheng found out by himself.

This seemed a bit unfair to Huang Zheng; after all, he was genuine to her, while she was held back by worldly considerations, with many aspects of concern.

Xia Wenjin felt a trace of guilt.

Such a good young man with such sincere intentions, since she had already confirmed her feelings, she certainly wouldn’t let him down!

Perhaps, she was really overthinking.

It doesn’t matter if he’s from a noble family, as long as he’s not entangled with the Imperial Family. Even if his grandfather holds a high position as the Prime Minister, it doesn’t matter!

With this thought, she proactively took his hand, pulled him to sit down, and said happily, ”Later, I’m going to personally make some dishes for Dad and Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu and send it over. You stay here and try my cooking!”

Huangfu Jingchen happily responded, ”Okay!”

Wenjin’s culinary skills were excellent. He still remembered the fragrant roasted deer at Shian Temple, and how the fake Kong Chan had eaten with oil dripping from his mouth.

He had even helped then, and now he eagerly said, ”I’ll help you!”

Xia Wenjin laughed, ”Alright!”

She had Aunt He go buy some groceries. When she entered the kitchen and saw Huangfu Jingchen indeed come to help, she couldn’t help but laugh, ”A gentleman stays away from the kitchen. Just keep me company and chat, don’t actually start working!”

If his clothes got dirty, this meal wouldn’t be worth that price!

Huangfu Jingchen said, ”I can help!”

He didn’t mind about the clothes. Rather, this kind of warm interaction with Wenjin was something he cherished.

Xia Wenjin thought for a moment, took some vegetables, and said, ”Then help me clean these!”

Huangfu Jingchen happily agreed, ”Okay!”

Aunt He managed the kitchen, keeping everything inside orderly. As Xia Wenjin washed the pot and vegetables, she occasionally glanced back to see Huang Zheng painstakingly picking vegetables. His serious demeanor amused her so much she couldn’t help but smile.

In her past life, her failure to understand people led her into traps and schemes, resulting in such a fate.

Looking back, what she most desired was a peaceful life.

Perhaps due to the past experiences or witnessing its splendor, she came to appreciate the value of simplicity—having seen the great ocean, mundane waters held little allure; having seen majestic mountains, mere clouds seemed insubstantial. Understanding the scenery of the world made her realize the happiness around her.

So living another life, she had no thoughts of revenge; if others did not wrong her, she did not wrong others. Simply living well was enough—husband sings, wife accompanies, washing hands to make soup; simple yet happy.

Husband sings, wife accompanies, huh?

These words made her face warm. She couldn’t help but glance again at Huangfu Jingchen. The young man’s profile was indeed pleasing to the eye, but oh, look how few vegetables were left from a handful after he cleaned them, yet he wore such a focused expression, as if solving examination questions—a contrast so endearing it melted her heart.

Finally finishing with this batch of vegetables, Huangfu Jingchen sighed in relief. Holding the cleaned vegetables, he looked up to meet the girl’s bright gaze. She watched him with a gentle smile.

Huangfu Jingchen also smiled, raising the vegetables slightly as if asking for credit, ”Wenjin, see, I’ve cleaned them! But the vegetables are a bit few, how do you plan to stir-fry them?”

Xia Wenjin took the nearly depleted vegetables and laughed, ”No stir-fry, I’ll just make a vegetable soup later!”

Huangfu Jingchen looked around for other things he could assist with. He realized that what Xia Wenjin handled with ease was incredibly challenging for him, far more strenuous than practicing swordsmanship.
