The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 581: Chapter 580: The Story’s Content

The Emperor glanced at him, Huangfu Jingchen had a dignified appearance, with an air of majesty between his brows. His looks were exceptional, refined yet not lacking in heroism, delicate yet exuding wisdom. Suddenly, he recalled what Prince Zhuang had said.

No matter where Prince Zhuang heard it from, how much of it was true?

If it is true...

The Emperor’s gaze instantly deepened, in that depth was a chilling coldness, he said faintly, ”You’re overthinking it. If you behave yourself, whose path would you obstruct?”

Huangfu Jingchen smiled and said, ”Grandfather is right. As your grandson from Yunzhou, I am narrow-minded, fearing everything. Thank you for your reward, Grandfather. Could I ask for one thing?”

Seeing Huangfu Jingchen’s naïve demeanor, and his eyes full of admiration for him, the Emperor’s mood improved considerably. He shook his head in his heart and thought of ”fear of everything,” as if he too could be counted as such.

A grandson who grew up in Yunzhou, how could this be possible?

If it’s not that Old Third cleared himself of crime, then it’s that Old Third was deceptively used by others.

After all, Old Fifth’s lineage is the least favored among all his princes, how could he pass that position to Old Fifth?

Old Fifth’s son would have even less chance.

As the Emperor, he was unexpectedly disturbed by Old Third’s words, which provoked a slight feeling of guilt towards Huangfu Jingchen, as he spoke gently, ”What would you like to ask of me?”

Huangfu Jingchen said, ”Grandfather, I would like to plead for a Holy Decree!”

The Emperor asked curiously, ”What do you need a decree for? What kind of decree are you asking for?”

Huangfu Jingchen said, ”Grandfather, a friend of mine has been wrongfully involved in a murder case. He’s actually innocent. The evidence from the government is insufficient, but due to the special status of the victim, he also faces execution by decapitation!”

The Emperor narrowed his eyes slightly, ”The person you’re referring to is the Ministry of Justice’s reported suspect in the murder of the Duke of England’s grandson?” The Capital City Government Office just presented the case file, the Injustice Bell rang after so many years, the Emperor naturally remembered.

Huangfu Jingchen said, ”Yes! Grandfather, I swear on my life, he is definitely not the murderer. I plead for your leniency!”

”You swear on your life?” The Emperor’s gaze deepened, bottomless, and said expressionlessly: ”You are pleading for a suspect? Who is he to you?”

”Grandfather, that person is Xia Wanqing. Your grandson was attacked on the street, escaped death narrowly. It was Xia Wanqing’s daughter, with exceptional medical skills, who saved your grandson’s life, allowing me to stand before Grandfather now!”

The Emperor stared at him. Attacked on the street; Huangfu Jingchen managed to stay alive because of a woman’s rescue?

Huangfu Jingchen’s gaze was honest with a touch of pleading, his expression candid.

The Emperor laughed heartily, ”Since his daughter saved you, then that is indeed a great merit. Based on that merit, it indeed can exchange for a life. I approve!”

Huangfu Jingchen was overjoyed, knelt and said, ”Thank you, Grandfather!”

The Emperor said, ”You may leave! I will have the Holy Decree sent to the Capital City Government Office!”

With the Emperor’s golden words already given, there’s no reason to go back on it. Huangfu Jingchen felt relieved, thanked on his knees, and left the palace.

At the Capital City Government Office, Wen Yuanting, having reviewed the case docket up to now, felt it incredibly absurd. The whole matter was full of loopholes, and Sun Liangcai concluded the case like this. Now with Gan Jinming’s testimony overturned, it became increasingly evident that Sun Liangcai’s main purpose wasn’t to capture the real murderer of Zhan Baoqing, but to implicate Haotian Village in crime.

Across from him, people and evidence were submitted again, combined with the past autopsy process by Capital City Government Office’s forensic doctor, it was obvious that Gan Jinming was speaking the truth at the government office; not only Xia Wanqing, but even Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin were innocent.

However, when Wen Yuanting asked Gan Jinming who had instructed him to slander Xia Wanqing, he clenched his teeth and refused to answer, not even torture worked.

Clearly, he was resolved to die.

That person either held something over him he could not speak of, or had given him grace that made him prefer death over disclosure.

Obviously, it should be the latter.

Wen Yuanting organized all case files, except for not yet knowing the true mastermind, the case was clear, even the manager of Duke of England Mansion changed his expression, having observed the whole process. Since the mastermind isn’t Haotian Village, then who could it be?

He had to hurry and report to the Lord.

Wen Yuanting conducted the trial fairly and justly, even Duke Mansion had no objections.

People involved had their crimes reevaluated, Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin, although initially involved in sequestration, couldn’t evade responsibility.

And Xia Wanqing, he was entirely a victim of unjust disaster. But as the Village Chief of Haotian Village, with Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin as his subordinates, corporal punishment was inevitable.

Gan Jinming’s murder and framing; unforgivable.

Sun Liangcai and Song Chang, for dereliction of duty, will have their faults recorded and presented to the Emperor for his ruling.

The principal suspect turned accessory, the innocent were held as culprits, now the accessory is the principal suspect, such a major reversal.

This outcome was unsurprising to Xia Wenjin.

Or rather, after she had visited Gan Jinming, she knew the retrial would yield this result.

She told Gan Jinming a story in the cell.

The story was about: a young boy accompanying his sister to the Capital City with no place to rely on, inadvertently discovered by a noble young man.

The noble young man took him as a subordinate, but didn’t keep him at his side, rather sent him with his sister to a mansion as servants. Due to the noble young man’s connection, though servants in that mansion, they were leisurely, their days were pleasant.

His master provided education to practice martial arts, though he learned secretively, he understood such life was hard-earned, studied diligently and seriously.

Later his master gave him silver to buy a house, the siblings lived a normal life. The young boy appreciated his benefactor’s kindness, did many things for him.

Recently, another noble young man was dining with his master, when the young boy’s sister happened to go out shopping, walking past their dining venue.

The noble young man was captivated by his sister’s beauty, emboldened by wine, sought pleasure and blocked his sister with servants, started harassing her.

In her resistance, accidentally slapped a noble young man, causing him to lose face, infuriated, ordered his men to seize his sister, and just then, the young boy happened by and saw this situation, extremely enraged, but fists couldn’t defeat many, he too was captured.

In the end, his sister saw him about to be beaten to death by the noble young man’s subordinates, knelt down crying and pleaded, eventually sacrificed herself, ramming into a wall to save him.

But unbeknownst to the young boy, it was actually a wager between that noble young man and his master. At that time, the noble young man had no real interest in his sister, it was his master who instigated, making a grand wager with a manor in the West Suburb as a stake, only then did the noble young man taunt her in public under the influence of liquor.
