The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 564: Chapter 564: Not Righteousness, but Grace

Accompanying them were prison guards, servants, and even Sun Liangcai, the Junior Minister of the Ministry of Justice.

Xia Wanqing’s gaze fell on that person, showing some surprise.

The group quickly approached and unlocked the cell door.

Sun Liangcai beamed with a smile and said, ”Young Master Xuan, Chief Xia is arranged to be here; you can talk slowly, and we won’t disturb you!”

Huangfu Yuxuan nodded slightly, saying, ”Hmm!”

Though it was just a response from his nose, Sun Liangcai was not at all displeased. He cupped his hands and left with the prison guards and the others.

The previous commotion quickly vanished, leaving only Huangfu Yuxuan and Cui Huaihong outside.

Huangfu Yuxuan lowered his head and walked into the cell, shedding his previous noble and aloof demeanor, looking somewhat worried, and sincerely said, ”Uncle Xia, I just heard the news and rushed over immediately. Are you okay?”

Xia Wanqing responded, ”I’m fine, just don’t know what has happened!”

Huangfu Yuxuan was surprised: ”Uncle Xia still doesn’t know?” He sighed and said, ”This matter is indeed significant. The Duke of England’s family has generations of achievements, and now the little lord is still guarding the border in the army. But the little lord’s only son was killed last night. This has broken the foundation of the Duke of England’s mansion, and Grandfather already knows about it. He has ordered a thorough investigation, demanding that the murderer be captured within seven days and executed by dismemberment to soothe the Duke of England’s pain!”

Xia Wanqing knew this was no small matter, but hearing it involved Hua and Gu, he couldn’t help but worry: ”Yuxuan, your Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu are not the murderers! If they were, they wouldn’t deny it!”

Huangfu Yuxuan said seriously, ”I can only say that Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu are not such people. I also figured out the situation back then. It was Young Master Zhan Baoqing committing violent acts on the street, intending to beat someone to death. Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu stepped in to help the victim. However, there was a master beside Zhan Baoqing, so Uncle Gu held Zhan Baoqing hostage and had them leave, but somehow Zhan Baoqing ended up dead. I believe they didn’t kill him. But my belief is useless; all the evidence currently points unfavorably toward them.”

Xia Wanqing said worriedly, ”As long as the real murderer is found, they should be cleared of suspicion, right?”

Huangfu Yuxuan let out a bitter laugh and said, ”Superficially, that’s the case, but after the Capital Guard arrested Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu, they searched their residence. They found the murder weapon, a sword, with bloodstains on it. Following the trickle of the blood, it was confirmed to be Zhan Baoqing’s.”

Xia Wanqing: ”...”

Without further details from Huangfu Yuxuan, Xia Wanqing already knew this matter was unlikely to end well.

Huangfu Yuxuan looked at Xia Wanqing and said, ”They are finding it difficult to escape suspicion, and even you, Uncle Xia, are implicated in this!”

”Me?” Xia Wanqing was surprised.

Huangfu Yuxuan looked grave and said, ”The Duke of England holds an extraordinary position. Not only has his family served for generations, but he’s also the father-in-law of Prince Zhuang, and the little lord is a military leader stationed at the border. This matter could be seen as an accident on a small scale but as a conspiracy against the Duke of England on a large scale. So Uncle Xia, just by knowing Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu, without knowing anything else, you’ve been brought here. This shows they are adhering to ’better to wrong than to let go’.”

Xia Wanqing, being a respected figure in Jianghu, knows a thing or two about the Court’s affairs. If it’s indeed concluded as the latter, it could cause devastation.

Huangfu Yuxuan said, ”I intended to find some acquaintances to mediate, to get you out, Uncle Xia. But when they heard about this case, they all avoided it, so for now, I’m afraid you’ll have to put up with this situation. Now, it depends on how the Ministry of Justice concludes.”

Xia Wanqing said, ”Thank you, dear nephew. At the moment, I’m fine. I hope the real culprit is captured soon, to clear my brothers’ names too!”

Huangfu Yuxuan sighed and said, ”Hopefully! What worries me now is that if they can arrest you, Uncle Xia, who knows nothing, they might even get Wenjin, and even Haotian Village could become a suspect. But I firmly believe this has nothing to do with you, Uncle Xia. If they indeed aim at so many, I’ll do everything I can to protect you and Wenjin!”

Xia Wanqing looked at Huangfu Yuxuan, feeling a wave of comfort.

Although respected in Jianghu, they were without friends or family in the Capital. Now being arrested here, they were at their wit’s end.

However, upon hearing of his situation, Huangfu Yuxuan immediately came to see him and was running around for his sake.

As a noble Imperial Grandson with a special status, he was willing to exert himself for them.

Knowing the gravity of the situation and aware that if he were involved, he too might not get out, yet he didn’t hold back.

This wasn’t just righteous, it was kindness!

He thought that though he could handle being here, Wenjin didn’t know anything. If she were caught and brought here, as a young lady, her reputation would be ruined.

Thinking of this, he hurriedly said to Huangfu Yuxuan, ”Yuxuan, if you see Wenjin, tell her to find her brother and return to Haotian Village soon. Don’t worry about matters here!”

Even though Huangfu Yuxuan said this involved the Duke of England, hence the Court held it in high regard and even suspected irrelevant people like himself, Xia Wanqing instinctively felt someone intended them harm.

Haotian Village, being a significant force in Jianghu, had offended many.

If someone deliberately committed murder to frame his two brothers, the three of them might all be entangled and unable to escape.

Huangfu Yuxuan earnestly said, ”Rest assured, Uncle Xia, I will! Though you are inconvenienced here now, I’ll mobilize all my strength to clear your name!”

”Clear my father’s name? Is this whole thing not a scheme of your own design?”

Just as Huangfu Yuxuan had declared righteously, a cold voice interrupted.

Since Xia Wanqing was only temporarily detained, and treated with some courtesy, visitation was, of course, possible.

Xia Wenjin had arranged to visit, arriving just in time to hear Huangfu Yuxuan’s words clearly.

Huangfu Yuxuan’s heart skipped a beat, yet he displayed a countenance of surprise, delight, and grievance, saying, ”Wenjin, do you have some misunderstanding about me?”

Xia Wanqing also displeasedly said, ”Wenjin, Young Master Yuxuan came as soon as he heard of my trouble, doing everything he could and running around for your Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu. How can you speak like this? Quickly apologize to Young Master Yuxuan!”

Huangfu Yuxuan immediately said, ”Uncle Xia, Wenjin is worried about you, and she’s not in a good mood. No matter what she said, I won’t mind, no need to apologize!”

Xia Wanqing looked at Xia Wenjin. He was pleased to see his daughter but didn’t agree with what she had just said. Young Master Yuxuan put righteousness first, hearing about his trouble, and came to the cell; speaking like this would truly chill one’s heart.
