The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 577: Chapter 577: Do You Like Her

Huangfu Jingchen looked at the girl’s profile, feeling very guilty.

If he had known about this earlier and intervened sooner, things wouldn’t have come to this point.

He pondered, ”Wenjin, there are traces of manipulation in this case. The person behind it, I don’t know what kind of grudge they have with Uncle Xia, but every step was impeccably timed. Do you have anyone in mind?”

Xia Wenjin glanced at him and said, ”Do you know who I am?”

Huangfu Jingchen nodded.

”Then who am I?”

”Wenjin, I know, you are from Haotian Village. Your father is the Village Chief of Haotian Village!” Huangfu Jingchen spoke with a calm voice. He was shocked when he heard this news, recalling his previous disdain for Haotian Village, thinking they were lawless bandits forcibly marrying a husband. But it was not like that at all.

”Do you know why I left Haotian Village to roam the Jianghu?”

Huangfu Jingchen shook his head. He had some guesses, like escaping a marriage, but he didn’t want to mention it.

Xia Wenjin said, ”This matter started because of me. I was gravely injured and unconscious, bedridden and couldn’t wake up. In his desperation, my father resorted to traditional superstitions, thinking that a wedding could bring good fortune. So he found a husband for me at the foot of the mountain. But as soon as the man came up the mountain, I woke up. My father thought that the man brought me luck which allowed me to awaken. Additionally, the man promised to marry me. If I refused, I’d be breaking my word. He forced me to marry that man, so I secretly ran down the mountain. This is the man’s revenge!”

Xia Sichen’s handsome face showed a bit of coldness as he said, ”I’ll go kill him!”

Xia Wenjin said helplessly, ”Focus on healing your wounds first. Don’t get involved in this.”

Xia Sichen said with remorse, ”Father wouldn’t listen to advice at the time. I shouldn’t have just left. If I had stayed, things wouldn’t have gotten so complicated!”

Xia Wenjin said, ”What use is it for you to be here? You can’t undo a false accusation. Furthermore, it involves the Duke of England’s grandson. That Duke is Prince Zhuang’s father-in-law!”

Because Huangfu Jingchen was found and is still alive, whereas Prince Zhuang has already lost his position as Crown Prince, the Emperor now has more favoritism towards Prince Zhuang. To maintain the Duke of England’s goodwill, someone must take the blame.

Huangfu Jingchen understood this as well, so he felt even more obligated to help Xia Wenjin.

He asked, ”Brother Xia, is your wound okay?”

Xia Sichen suffered from a beating. Whenever he walked, his clothes rubbed against the wound, causing significant pain. But in front of his sister, he didn’t want to show it, so he said, ”I’m fine!”

Xia Wenjin hired a carriage to take Xia Sichen back to their residence.

This is where she and Xia Wanqing lived, but the place was big enough to accommodate Xia Sichen as well.

She helped Xia Sichen into the house. He looked quite disheveled and could only rest on the bed. Changing his bloody clothes, cleaning his wounds, and applying medicine... Xia Wenjin couldn’t do these. She intended to call Uncle He for help, when Huangfu Jingchen volunteered, ”Let me do it!”

Xia Wenjin looked at him.

Could he do it?

Xia Sichen waved to dismiss them, saying, ”Stop dawdling. I have this medicinal patch. I still have to go to the Capital City Government Office in the afternoon. Wenjin, go find us something to eat!”

Xia Wenjin, helpless, handed the antiseptic medicine to Huangfu Jingchen. Huangfu Jingchen gave him an assuring nod, implying he could be trusted to handle it without worry.

After Xia Wenjin left, Huangfu Jingchen closed the door.

From the bed, Xia Sichen called out to him, ”Hey, kid, are you called Huang Zheng?”

Huangfu Jingchen fetched some water, soaked a clean cloth into it, wrung it out, walked over, and asked, ”Will you undress yourself, or should I help you?”

Xia Sichen’s gaze wandered over him before he weakly said, ”Do you think I can manage on my own?”

Huangfu Jingchen looked over at Xia Sichen lying on the bed. He did look rather pitiful.

If Xia Sichen hadn’t come along back then, with Wen Yuanting’s strict adherence to rules, and the Injustice Bell incident, there would have been no room for compromise. In the end, Wenjin would have suffered injustice.

From this point of view, this brother was still decent.

He said, ”Don’t move!”

He came over to uncover Xia Sichen’s coat, revealing the inner clothes that were shredded from abuse. Tearing away the rags, he saw the dense layering of the clothing wounds. Stained with blood,

Huangfu Jingchen placed the warm cloth on it to clean the bloodstains, while Xia Sichen sighed, ”If not for the old man being unreasonable, ruining my mood, I’d have some wine and a game of chess by now, showing true heroism!”

Huangfu Jingchen: ”...”

He said speechlessly, ”You really have leisure at a time like this! Aren’t you worried? This case might not overturn!”

”My father always said that in the Jianghu, life and death shouldn’t be taken too seriously. His greatest fear in life is for a parent to bury their child. Other than that, he’s afraid of nothing!” Xia Sichen shifted to a more comfortable position, hiding the worry in his eyes, and said indifferently, ”My old man is just too stubborn. I advised him to return to Haotian Village earlier, but he wouldn’t listen. Now that he’s in this mess, he should see through some people’s facades!”

Huangfu Jingchen felt there was more to his words, but upon closer inspection, Xia Sichen’s emotions were masked with a nonchalant attitude, making it hard to discern his true feelings.

After cleaning the wound of bloodstains, Huangfu Jingchen applied the antiseptic medicine to it and wrapped it up. Xia Sichen gave a carp leap and stood up.

Huangfu Jingchen hurriedly said, ”The wound might open up like this!”

Xia Sichen waved his hand dismissively and said, ”These are just minor wounds, mere skin injuries. People in the Jianghu have tough skin; if they can’t handle even this, they’d be too soft!”

Huangfu Jingchen: ”...”

But you were pale, on the brink of death, moaning in the carriage, as if gravely injured!

Xia Sichen found a place to sit down. He looked Huangfu Jingchen up and down, asking, ”Do you like Wenjin?”

Huangfu Jingchen was taken aback, then he nodded with some embarrassment.

Xia Sichen laughed heartily, ”That’s good, then I’ll entrust Wenjin to you. You must treat her well in the future!”

Huangfu Jingchen looked at Xia Sichen with a strange expression. Wasn’t this brother too big-hearted? Although he indeed wouldn’t let Wenjin down, he wasn’t that familiar with Xia Sichen. Why would Xia Sichen entrust his sister to him?

Feeling a sudden urge, Huangfu Jingchen asked, ”Are you already thinking about what to do if the case doesn’t turn in your favor?”

Xia Sichen said, ”If it can’t be overturned, so what? What are you trying to say?”

Huangfu Jingchen said, ”You’re planning to storm the execution ground!”

He spoke with certainty, not inquiring if it was true!

No wonder he didn’t care if the case could be overturned, because he had already decided on what to do if it couldn’t.

Xia Sichen looked into his eyes and asked, ”Would you report me?”

Huangfu Jingchen instinctively shook his head. He wouldn’t report, but he knew that storming the execution ground was also a dead end!
