The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 563: Chapter 563: Visitation

Xia Wanqing felt that something was amiss. He was unaware of what happened before, but from what he observed after arriving, it seemed rather farcical.

Could it be that the Deputy Commander of the Capital Guard and the Junior Minister of the Ministry of Justice handle a case so carelessly?

No interrogation, no trial, no evidence presented, just on an uncertain accusation, they detained him? He glanced at Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin, the two brothers hadn’t killed anyone, yet now they were here. Was someone plotting against them?

Not just against them, but perhaps even involving him as well?

Xia Wanqing’s suspicions had just arisen in his mind when he heard Song Chang say, ”However, as Chief Xia holds a special status, although in custody, we will treat him with respect! Once all suspects are gathered, a thorough investigation will follow. If Chief Xia is truly not involved, he will naturally be fine!”

He turned his head, his expression turning serious, exuding a strong authoritative presence: ”Come, take these three away. Hmm, there’s no need for Chief Xia to change into prison garb. Arrange for him a separate, clean cell!”

Xia Wanqing: ”...”

Everything seemed like a dream.

He just intended to go out for a drink, and then he ended up here, with his two brothers suddenly becoming murder suspects.

Now, in front of so many people, it wasn’t convenient for him to ask Hua Yuanming and the others what had happened, especially when they mentioned the grandson of the Duke of England. What was the connection there? ℴℴ𝘮

He would have to wait until he could speak with Hua Yuanming and the others.

Xia Wenjin had already inquired about the situation.

The only legitimate grandson of the Duke of England, the only son of General Zhan, Zhan Baoqing, had been killed, causing an upheaval at the Duke of England Mansion. The Duke immediately exerted pressure on the Ministry of Justice.

According to the testimony of Zhan Baoqing’s servants from the Duke Mansion, two strong men had kidnapped the young master. By the time they found the young master, he was already dead.

Very soon, they identified those two strong men as Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu.

Now, all evidence pointed to the two of them being the murderers.

Because the opposition was from the Duke Mansion, they suspected a premeditated plot, implicating even his father.

What a mess.

Xia Wenjin made some arrangements, preparing to visit the prison.

She needed to get the facts straight to resolve this matter.

A group of people were escorted by the Capital Guard to the cell of the Ministry of Justice. Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin were indeed held together, but Xia Wanqing was kept far from them, in a separate room. It had a bed and bedding, cleaned thoroughly, likely the most refined cell among them.

Xia Wanqing was puzzled.

If he were suspected of being one of the masterminds, they wouldn’t treat him like this, but if not, he shouldn’t be locked up here.

What exactly was the situation?

Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin were both distressed, indignant, and anxious, with some fear as well.

They hadn’t committed murder and had let Zhan Baoqing go unharmed. How could he be dead? Did something happen on his way back to his servants?

Even Gan Jinming thought they did it.

The situation was quite unfavorable for them.

Gu Hongxin regretted not escorting Zhan Baoqing back, but the old servant behind Zhan Baoqing was too skilled in martial arts for him to do so.

He suddenly hit his head, saying regretfully, ”It’s all my fault, my carelessness. I should’ve made sure Zhan Baoqing safely returned to his servants.”

Hua Yuanming sighed, ”Who could’ve anticipated this outcome? We were all panicked then, but it’s okay. We didn’t do it, and no one can frame us.”

Gu Hongxin recalled something and said curiously, ”Vice Commander Song claimed they had both witness and physical evidence, but after just a few questions, they locked us up. What kind of witness and physical evidence?”

Hua Yuanming shook his head, ”I don’t know either!” Reflecting on the past events, he was indignant: ”Is Gan Jinming an idiot? He actually knelt before Vice Commander Song to thank us!”

Gu Hongxin said, ”Gan Jinming thought we did it!”

Hua Yuanming said embarrassedly, ”Being wronged ourselves is one thing, but even Big Brother has been detained now. Our way to handle this as officials is truly pathetic.”

Gu Hongxin sighed, ”It was an accident, don’t be discouraged. We haven’t done it, and I believe the authorities will eventually clear our names!”

Hua Yuanming suddenly said, ”Do you really think justice always prevails? We’ve encountered too much injustice in the Jianghu, and I hear the bureaucracy is even darker. They mentioned evidence, yet we saw nothing before they locked us. If the real culprits aren’t found and the Duke Mansion keeps pressing, Mr. Song might hand us over as scapegoats to protect himself!”

Gu Hongxin understood this logic too, sitting on the ground in despair until he suddenly saw a glimmer of hope. He lifted his head, eyes shining, and said to Hua Yuanming, ”The reason we could be framed as suspects is because the Duke Mansion is too powerful for Mr. Song to oppose! But we aren’t without supporters; Young Master Xuan is our backer! No matter how powerful, can the Duke surpass the Imperial Grandson?”

Hua Yuanming’s eyes brightened too but soon dimmed again, sighing, ”That’s true, but we’re suddenly locked up here with no way to contact Young Master Xuan. How can we send out a message?”

Gu Hongxin said confidently, ”There’s always a way!”

Xia Wanqing tried for the third time to look outside through the bars.

Sure, having a bed and bedding is nice, and the single, clean room is nice too. Nonetheless, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a prison, with the outer wall just a row of bars.

Regrettably, everything was silent here, with nothing visible.

Xia Wanqing tapped the bars, calling, ”Anyone there, anyone!”

Despite calling several times, not even a shadow appeared.

Xia Wanqing sat down, feeling quite helpless.

In Haotian Village, he was the chief; in the Jianghu, he was a leader others called Hero Xia. Yet in this small cell, he had no one to use, no news, not even knowing why he was here, utterly baffling!

Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu were nowhere in sight, locked somewhere unknown, without any clue what had happened.

While sighing with frustration, he suddenly heard footsteps approaching.

Xia Wanqing felt a surge of joy—if someone was coming, he could at least gather some information to analyze the current situation.

He stood swiftly and moved toward the bars.

A group was approaching.

Through the barred door, in the gloom of the cell, the figure in resplendent azure attire was so striking, making everyone around him mere foils, enhancing the noble and elegant demeanor of that handsome man, noble and imposing.
