The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 592: Chapter 591: There Is Someone

Huangfu Jingchen pondered, ”The first suspicion: Haotian Village is in Jinzhou City, where Huangfu Yuxuan should originally be in the Capital City. How could he just happen to appear at the foot of the mountain to apply to be your husband?”

Xia Wenjin smirked and said, ”According to him, he wanted to travel through the Jianghu to broaden his horizons. It just so happened that he came across my father’s reward notice and felt that saving a life was more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda, so he willingly agreed to marry!”

Huangfu Jingchen furrowed his brow. If that’s true, it’d make sense why Chief Xia and the others trust and like Huangfu Yuxuan so much. Helping others in urgent need and possessing a compassionate heart, of course, they’d like him.

Actually, he had some doubts too. He had been in the Capital City for some time, and based on what he knew of Huangfu Yuxuan, would he be willing to marry a woman he’d never seen or heard of just for her life? Unless he already knew of Wenjin’s stunning beauty. But even if that were the case, back then Prince Liang was still the Crown Prince, and Huangfu Yuxuan had a good chance of becoming the Crown Prince’s successor. If his wife were not of noble descent, but rather a woman of the Jianghu, wouldn’t it jeopardize his future in front of the Grandfather?

However, he wouldn’t say that out loud, as it would seem like he was making assumptions about someone from an insidious point of view.

He continued, ”The second suspicion: since your father usually listens to most of your wishes and dotes on you, naturally he would hope for your happiness. Knowing that you don’t want to marry, even trying to run away from it, why would they still want you to marry Huangfu Yuxuan?”

Xia Wenjin said, ”You might not believe it, but when I was very young, I fell extremely ill and nearly died. An old man with white hair came and saved me, but he said although he saved me temporarily, I would still die young, not living past sixteen unless there’s a turn of fate. He left a poem, saying the turn of fate was in that poem. My father and brother deciphered the poem’s meaning and concluded that it aligned with Huangfu Yuxuan’s identity and background, so they believed he was my destined one, and only by marrying him would I avoid an early death!”

Huangfu Jingchen was stunned. He never expected there to be such details.

He remembered at the Shian Temple when the fake Kong Chan said he and Wenjin were both destined to die young! Was it just a joke, or had something truly been predicted?

If he was indeed the destined one, if it really concerned Wenjin’s life, it would further explain why Chief Xia was so determined about this marriage!

After a moment of silence, he shook his head, trying to shake off the rising sense of powerlessness in his heart, and continued, ”The third suspicion: about that blind man at the foot of the mountain, can he be trusted?”

Xia Wenjin burst into laughter and said, ”When I ran away from the marriage, the first thing I did was find that blind man. Guess what I saw?”

Knowing it must be something unusual, Huangfu Jingchen asked, ”What?”

Xia Wenjin said, ”That blind man, who could only barely afford three meals a day, was dressed in silk and satin, going in and out of Jinzhou City’s finest tavern!” She laughed, ”My father did give him some silver, but it shouldn’t have been enough for such extravagance, so I felt something was off. But before I could find out anything from him, the blind man suddenly died!”

Huangfu Jingchen laughed, ”That’s great news!”

Xia Wenjin: ”???”

Huangfu Jingchen realized his lapse and quickly said, ”I don’t mean it’s good the blind man died, I mean, since the blind man died, it proves there’s something unusual about the whole situation. Perhaps this destined match is a sham, and the heaven-made union is as well!”

Xia Wenjin nodded, sighing, ”Yes, I think so too, but there’s nothing I can do. My father still doesn’t believe me! He even thinks I killed the blind man in anger, given my admittedly poor temper in the village!”

Huangfu Jingchen: ”...”

The blind man’s sudden wealth, although not necessarily because of the marriage, is suspicious, and his sudden death is too coincidental, almost as if to silence him. If the people coming for the reward were all determined by the blind man’s reading of their fortunes, could it be that the match was determined by him? If the blind man was bribed, another question remains: why would Huangfu Yuxuan move from the Capital City to Jinzhou City to set up such a scenario?

Looking at the results, it seems that he went there specifically for Wenjin!

He hesitantly asked, ”Had Huangfu Yuxuan ever met you before this?”

If he hadn’t met her before, yet specifically went for this matter, it’s truly perplexing!

Xia Wenjin confidently said, ”No!”

Huangfu Jingchen’s mind raced, suddenly feeling enlightened, ”If he’d never met you but still made a point to go to Jinzhou City to marry you, could it be, like you, Huangfu Yuxuan also faced some fate, like dying young or a great calamity? That only you could help him avert it?”

Xia Wenjin’s heart skipped a beat, and she looked sharply at Huangfu Jingchen. Under the clear, bright gaze of the maiden, Huangfu Jingchen suddenly felt his idea was a bit grim. Was he interpreting others’ intentions with such malice that Wenjin might not be angry?

Uneasily, he said, ”This is unlikely, I was just speculating, you don’t need to dwell on it!”

”No!” Xia Wenjin’s eyes lit up like stars in the sky. She said happily, ”Huang Zheng, maybe you’re right. I’ve never been able to understand this aspect, but hearing you say this, I have a thought. My father insisted on marrying me to Huangfu Yuxuan because of the prophecy that I wouldn’t live past sixteen. But even if my father wanted to marry me off, Huangfu Yuxuan had to be willing to marry me. With Huangfu Yuxuan’s status, marrying a Jianghu woman is against common sense, let alone him specifically traveling from the Capital City to Jinzhou City for this purpose!”

Huangfu Yuxuan is someone who wouldn’t act without benefit; he clearly understood the consequences of marrying a lady from a prominent family versus a Jianghu woman, Prince Cheng was a clear example!

Unless the benefit was so great that he could ignore the Emperor’s displeasure, he wouldn’t have done so!

No wonder, perhaps, that Huangfu Yuxuan continued to pursue her even in the Capital City.

Xia Wenjin suddenly felt amused. If this were true, then her past life was truly a joke! It’s a pity she dedicated all her passion and efforts to it.

Huangfu Jingchen didn’t expect Xia Wenjin to believe him, and stumbled over his words, ”I-I was just making a wild guess. Prophecies aren’t that reliable, you’re living well now without marrying Huangfu Yuxuan, aren’t you? After all, who can predict the future?”

Xia Wenjin shook her head, ”Others might not be able to, but Huangfu Yuxuan might be able to, because he has someone by his side!”

”Who?”
