Entertainment Creator System: Building an Anime Empire

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: One Hundred Readers

Haruki discovered something important the next morning: analytics were dangerous. Extremely dangerous — possibly more dangerous than deadlines. The realization arrived the moment he woke up and checked his reader count before even getting out of bed.

The site loaded. His eyes locked onto the number.

Readers: 97

He sat upright. Ninety-seven — three short of a hundred. The number wasn’t special by industry standards; thousands of creators pulled bigger audiences every day, popular series gained hundreds of readers an hour, and Haruki knew all of that. His brain knew it. His emotions had completely ignored the memo. Ninety-seven readers was ninety-seven more than he’d ever had before, and that distinction mattered a lot.

He refreshed the page. Still ninety-seven. Refreshed again. Still ninety-seven. He stared; the number stared back. This was getting personal.

A buzz interrupted the standoff. Yui: Checking the numbers again?

How do you always know? he typed back.

A few seconds later: Because you’re predictable.

Cruel. Accurate. But cruel.

What’s the count?

Ninety-seven.

The typing indicator appeared instantly. Congratulations.

It’s not one hundred yet.

It will be.

Simple confidence — the kind Yui always seemed to have when it came to him, and it warmed him more than he expected.

After finally dragging himself out of bed, Haruki spent the morning working on Chapter Two, or at least attempting to. His attention kept drifting back to analytics — a deeply unhealthy habit he recognized and kept indulging anyway. The Chapter itself was going well: Ren had crossed through the gate, the hidden world beyond was starting to reveal itself, questions multiplying, mysteries deepening. It felt stronger than the first Chapter, and that excited him. A lot of creators focused on attracting readers; keeping them was harder. Chapter One earned curiosity. Chapter Two had to earn trust.

Around noon, another notification appeared. He opened the site and froze.

Readers: 100

Exactly one hundred. He stared at it for several seconds. Triple digits — not because a hundred readers was a huge audience, but because it was his audience. A hundred strangers had chosen to spend part of their day reading something he made. It felt surreal.

A blue screen appeared.

Warmth flowed through him — the familiar, subtle, comfortable sensation of improvement. Then another window opened.

[Reader Feedback Analysis]

Haruki blinked. This feature looked absurdly useful — dangerously useful — not because it told him what to write, but because it showed him what readers actually cared about. Ideas sparked immediately. The gate mystery was working, which meant future reveals would land even harder.

His phone rang. Yui, naturally — at this point the timing bordered on suspicious.

He answered.

”You hit one hundred.” Not a question. A statement.

He looked at the reader count and smiled. ”Yeah.”

Silence. Then: ”I’m proud of you.”

The words arrived casually, as if they weren’t capable of completely derailing his thought process. He froze — Yui rarely said things like that, not because she didn’t care, but because she usually preferred teasing him instead. It hit harder than he expected.

”It’s only one hundred.”

”I know.” A pause. ”But last week it was zero.”

Zero. One hundred. The gap suddenly felt enormous — not because of the number itself, but what it represented. Progress. Actual, measurable progress. For years his goals had felt distant and abstract; now he could watch them move.

After the call ended, Haruki leaned back in his chair. The apartment felt different — not physically, emotionally. The room where he’d spent years wondering what to do with his life now held evidence that he was actually doing something. Not successfully, not yet. But genuinely.

His gaze drifted to the Creator Point menu.

[Current Points: 195]

Nearly two hundred — enough to buy several analysis tools, and the temptation showed up immediately: spend them, see what happens, learn more, gain an edge. He considered it seriously, then stopped himself. The system rewarded information, information had value, and that meant points had value too. Spending them carelessly would be stupid. He’d save them — a bigger opportunity might come along later, and his future self could either thank him or blame him for it.

The afternoon moved quickly. Chapter Two kept growing, page after page, the hidden world sharpening, the mystery deepening, the excitement staying intact. That mattered most — readers could usually tell when a creator stopped enjoying their own story, and Haruki never wanted that to happen if he could help it.

As evening settled over Tokyo, he checked the analytics one last time.

Readers: 118

The number kept climbing — slowly, steadily, patiently, the same way every meaningful achievement seemed to. One step at a time. One reader at a time. One Chapter at a time.

Outside, city lights lit up the streets below. Inside, an eighteen-year-old creator sat with a reader count of a hundred eighteen and a future that felt slightly less impossible than it had a week ago. The entertainment industry still didn’t know his name. Publishers didn’t know he existed. Professional creators weren’t paying attention.

Yet.

The word came back again. Every large audience started small. Every famous creator started unknown. Every success story started somewhere.

Tonight, Haruki allowed himself a rare moment of satisfaction. Tomorrow, he’d keep working.

The journey was still just beginning.
