Entertainment Creator System: Building an Anime Empire

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Twenty-Five Pages

Haruki woke up at six in the morning. The first thing he saw was the mission window. The second was the clock. The third was his own reflection in the dark monitor screen — dark circles, messy hair, an expression that suggested sleep and productivity were currently engaged in a brutal war. Not encouraging.

The system appeared immediately.

Physical Condition: Acceptable Mental Condition: Focused Sleep Quality: Poor Recommendation: Go back to sleep.

Haruki stared at it, then ignored it. The system stayed visible anyway, silently judging him. Unfortunately, he was already used to that.

A week had passed since graduation. A week since the Entertainment Creator System activated. A week since he’d decided to gamble his future on a dream he wasn’t entirely sure he deserved. And somehow — the Chapter was almost finished.

His gaze shifted to the monitor. Twenty-three completed pages. Only two left. The realization sent a surge of energy through him — not because twenty-five pages was some huge achievement, but because he’d never finished something this ambitious before. That distinction mattered, more than he expected.

He sat down and opened the project. The final sequence waited: Ren standing before an ancient stone gate hidden beneath the city, invisible to ordinary people, tied directly to the mystery of his missing destiny. The Chapter’s climax. The first real hook. It had existed in Haruki’s head for days; now it needed to exist on paper.

His stylus touched the screen, and the work began.

Hours disappeared. The outside world faded, the city noise turned into background static, and only the story remained — Ren’s cautious steps, his growing curiosity, the strange energy around the gate, the feeling that something impossible waited beyond it. The scene flowed almost effortlessly, which surprised him. Not because drawing had gotten easy, but because he’d finally reached a point where he trusted the story. The characters felt like they could guide themselves now — not literally, just creatively — and the shift from the effortful first pages fascinated him.

Around noon, a knock echoed through the apartment. He already knew who it was; the timing gave it away.

He opened the door. Yui stood outside holding two drinks.

”You’re alive.”

”You ask that every time.”

”One day the answer will be no.” A concerning level of confidence accompanied that.

She stepped inside, then immediately spotted the monitor. Her eyes widened. ”Twenty-three?”

Haruki allowed himself a small smile. ”Twenty-three.”

The reaction alone was worth it — for once, Yui looked genuinely impressed. Not supportive, not encouraging. Impressed. Surprisingly satisfying.

She walked closer, studied the latest pages, then sat down quietly. Several minutes passed with neither of them talking — Haruki drawing, Yui reading — and the silence felt comfortable, natural, the kind that only exists between people who’ve known each other for years.

Eventually she reached the last completed page and looked up. ”You’re really going to finish.”

Not a question. He noticed that immediately — not are you going to finish, but you’re going to finish. The distinction always mattered.

”Yeah.” The answer came easily, no hesitation, no uncertainty. For the first time, he actually believed it.

Yui smiled — small, and dangerous in the way that could do real emotional damage. ”I’m happy,” she said, casually, like the words weren’t capable of completely wrecking his concentration.

He looked away immediately. The safest option. Unfortunately, she noticed — she always noticed — which annoyed him more than it should have. A soft laugh escaped her, and she stood. ”Finish the Chapter.”

Simple advice, but it carried more weight than any motivational speech could have. She headed for the door, then paused.

”Haruki.”

He looked up. ”What?”

She seemed to consider something, then smiled again — the genuine one this time. ”I think people are going to like it.”

The door closed behind her. The apartment went quiet again, but somehow felt less empty than before.

Haruki went back to work. Page Twenty-Four. Then Twenty-Five. The final page took more out of him than all the others combined — not technically, emotionally. Endings mattered, even temporary ones. A first Chapter existed for one purpose: make readers want Chapter Two. The hook had to land. The final scene had to linger. The last page had to raise questions, not answer them.

He revised dialogue, adjusted expressions, redrew backgrounds, refined pacing — and then, finally, the last panel came together. Ren stood before the ancient gate, its massive stone doors slowly opening onto darkness. Beneath the image, a single line:

”The Threadless One has arrived.”

Haruki stared at it. The apartment was silent, the city kept moving outside, and for several seconds he just looked at the completed Chapter.

Twenty-five pages. Done. Actually done.

The realization hit harder than he expected — not because the Chapter was perfect (it wasn’t), and not because it would become famous (he had no idea if it would). Because it existed. Complete. Finished. Real. For years, unfinished ideas had followed him — projects abandoned halfway, plans interrupted by doubt, dreams postponed for some imaginary future. This one had crossed the finish line.

Create and Publish an Original Manga Chapter Requirement: 25 Pages Status: Completed Reward Available Upon Publication

The screen glowed softly, waiting. Patient. There was still one final step: publishing. The thought spiked his heart rate immediately. Creating the Chapter had been hard. Showing it to strangers would be worse — readers would judge, readers would criticize, readers might ignore it completely. Terrifying and exciting, both at once.

Haruki leaned back in his chair. Afternoon sunlight filled the room. Twenty-five completed pages sat on the monitor — his first Chapter, his first real step. The future was still uncertain, success still distant, failure still possible. None of that mattered right now, because for the first time in his life he had undeniable proof of something important: he could finish what he started. For a creator standing at the beginning of a very long journey, that might have been the most valuable discovery of all.

Tomorrow, he would publish. Tomorrow, strangers would decide whether the story deserved a future.

Tomorrow, his real journey would begin.
