The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 147: Chapter 133: That Conclusion Was a Bit Too Hasty!

The entire layout of the room isn’t much different from last night.

However, it looks a bit brighter now.

Zhang Yean walked in and said, ”Last night, while we were examining the body at the forensic autopsy center, the other two scene investigation members had already conducted a meticulous examination of the scene.”

Li Jian looked up and asked, ”Did they find any special items at the scene?”

Zhang Yean replied, ”Before we set off this morning, I took a look at last night’s investigation extraction records.”

”Because the firefighters used high-pressure water guns to extinguish the fire, many items at the scene were displaced, making it very chaotic.”

”Moreover, after the fire, the indoor items burned and deformed, making accurate identification impossible.”

”Last night, among many burned items, they found a phone, severely charred.”

”Also, they found a partially damaged ID in a handbag, showing Zhang Biao’s personal information.”

Li Jian nodded.

He looked around at the walls, pitch black.

”The fire must have been very intense.”

”Zhang Yean, go and call Mr. Zhang over; I have some questions for him.”

”Okay, I’ll go out and call him in right away!”

Three minutes later, Mr. Zhang came in, jogging.

”Captain Li, you wanted to see me?”

Li Jian asked, ”Where did Zhang Biao usually live?”

Mr. Zhang replied, ”Since Zhang Biao started working as a security guard with us, he has been living at the construction site.”

He raised his hand and pointed to the security room inside.

”In the rest room there are two bunk beds, and the innermost bunk bed is basically used by Zhang Biao.”

”So you mean Zhang Biao always lived in the duty room?”

Mr. Zhang nodded.

”Then where did he usually keep his personal belongings?”

Mr. Zhang answered, ”Each of them has a wooden wardrobe in the rest area, which is basically where they store their bedding and clothes.”

”But now, they’ve all been burned to ashes.”

”Besides the wardrobe in the rest area, each person has a metal locker in this work area.”

Mr. Zhang took two steps forward and pointed at the metal locker near the wall.

”This metal locker is a small compartment, usually used for storing personal items.”

Li Jian walked over to take a look; the originally white metal locker was now smoked black.

At the moment.

Jiang An was observing the distribution of burn marks inside.

Comparing the overall burning state of the two rooms, the rest area was burned more heavily than the office area.

Moreover, from the direction of the fire and smoke marks after the fire started, you could see the first place it ignited was the rest area.

Then, the flames spread from the rest area to the office area.

After an overall observation, Jiang An walked into the rest room area.

In Jiang An’s view, most of the items at the fire scene were burned and unrecognizable.

However, determining the initial ignition point was very important.

In fire cases, if there is only one ignition point, it could be an accidental fire, with flames initially spreading from one place.

But.

If there are many ignition points at a fire scene, you can basically rule out accidental fire.

After all, in a relatively enclosed environment, it’s impossible to ignite and burn simultaneously at multiple locations.

To determine the number of ignition points, you need to find the places with the most severe burning inside.

With this thought, Jiang An carefully observed inside the rest area room, especially the burn extent of walls and items.

At this moment.

Sunlight from outside was streaming in, greatly improving indoor visibility.

After scanning the scene, Jiang An found the area with the most severe burning was near the wooden cabinet by the wall.

Moreover, to the right of the wooden cabinet was an electric kettle plugged in.

Jiang An stood here, bent down to observe.

He thought to himself that, judging from the burning extent here, it should be an ignition point.

Could the fire cause be an electrical short in an appliance?

Next, he straightened up and turned to look at the bunk bed where the deceased was.

Meanwhile, images of the initial discovery of the deceased’s condition and burn extent flashed through Jiang An’s mind.

In memory, most of the deceased’s skin was burned and carbonized.

However, observing the burning extent of the whole body muscle tissue, it was not completely consistent.

The inconsistent burning extent of the deceased’s body precisely indicated the variability in burn intensity when the fire started.

While Jiang An was deep in thought, Captain Li Jian suddenly came over.

He looked around and said, ”The fire department has determined this fire was caused by an electrical short in the kettle.”

”Moreover, last night they extracted combustion residues from many locations inside.”

”Preliminary inspection of the extraction did not reveal any alcohol, oils, or gasoline components as accelerants.”

While speaking, Captain Li Jian walked to the wooden cabinet.

”Looks like it must be this kettle.”

”The burning here seems very intense.”

”Also, there was a record of alarm tripping in the electrical system on site at the time.”

After hearing that, Jiang An remained silent, only nodding gently.

As for the conclusion about the fire cause given by the fire department mentioned by Li Jian, Jiang An did not deny it.

However, he still had many questions in his mind.

Noticing Jiang An’s frown, Li Jian asked, ”Jiang An, are you thinking about something?”

Jiang An replied, ”Mr. Li, through my understanding of this fire scene, I always feel there’s something strange about it.”
