The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 116: Chapter 116: This Case Is Not Simple

Immediately, Jiang An asked, ”Senior sister, did you participate in the entire scene investigation at that time?”

Zhang Yean nodded.

”Yes.”

”I remember following Mr. Wu and two other senior brothers from the office to examine the scene.”

”Did you measure the relevant data from the scene?”

Zhang Yean recalled for a moment.

”We should have measured it.”

”At the time, I recorded the data. There should be relevant records in this dossier.”

Then, Zhang Yean walked over, picked up the dossier on the table, turned back over a dozen pages, and found the scene investigation transcript.

”Look, all the data is on this paper.”

Jiang An took the dossier and looked at it carefully.

He found that the measurement value of the body distance from the wall was 0.5 meters.

For a moment, Jiang An’s heart raced at seeing this number.

For a body that falls from a height, if it is a jump, there must be an initial velocity.

According to the principle of gravitational acceleration in physics, when an object falls from a height, it will take a certain amount of time.

If the falling object initially has a horizontal initial velocity, then after some time, a distance in the horizontal direction will inevitably form.

Immediately, Jiang An asked again, ”At that time, what floor did you determine the deceased fell from?”

Zhang Yean replied, ”I seem to remember it was the 10th floor.”

”There should be records here.”

Then, she once again turned to the last page of the scene investigation report.

”After investigation, it was found that the deceased’s water cup and masonry tools were on the 10th floor, so it was analyzed that the deceased likely fell from the platform on the 10th floor.”

”10th floor?”

If calculated based on each floor being 3.3 meters in height, the deceased’s fall height was about 33 meters.

According to the calculation formula h=1/2gt2, it would take 2.5 seconds for the deceased to fall from the 10th floor to the ground.

The body was only 0.5 meters away from the wall.

So the initial speed at which the deceased left the fall point was only 0.2 meters/second.

Generally speaking, the normal walking speed of a person is 1.1-1.5 meters/second, even for children and the elderly, it’s above 0.8 meters/second.

Thinking of this, Jiang An began to doubt the conclusion of accidental fall.

Subsequently, Zhang Yean said, ”The concurrent perimeter investigation at the time showed that the deceased Liu Jun drank with friends from the same dormitory the night before and felt thirsty after returning.”

”He remembered that he left his water cup at the workplace during the day, so he went back to the 10th floor to look for the cup.”

”The next morning, a co-worker found his body.”

Jiang An asked, ”Did he go looking for the cup alone that night?”

Zhang Yean nodded.

”The other co-workers went back to sleep, only he went to look for it.”

”Did the construction site surveillance see anything?”

”At the time, the local precinct retrieved the surveillance and found that Liu Jun indeed entered the construction site alone that night.”

”But after entering the construction site, there was no more surveillance.”

”And the entire falling process was not captured on surveillance either.”

Jiang An nodded lightly after listening.

”Was Liu Jun’s water cup still up there?”

Zhang Yean remembered, ”I recall when another senior brother and I went to the 10th floor to investigate, we saw the water cup knocked over on the ground.”

”That’s right!”

”At the time, we took photos, you can look at the scene investigation photos.”

Zhang Yean was very familiar with the scene.

She took the dossier and quickly turned to that photo.

Sure enough.

You could see in this photo, a black metal water cup was knocked over on the ground, with masonry tools around it.

However, not far from the water cup, Jiang An noticed a water stain and some tea leaves.

Jiang An asked, ”Is this Liu Jun’s water cup?”

”Yes!”

”At the time, after identification by other co-workers, this was indeed Liu Jun’s water cup.

”Could any valuable footprints be seen at the scene?”

Zhang Yean shook her head.

”The scene was an open environment, with many co-workers working during the day, and there was a lot of trampling.”

”Moreover, there were a lot of sand and stones, so the shoe prints couldn’t be completely visible.”

”We searched the scene for a long time and didn’t find any useful footprints.”

Jiang An fell into thought, his gaze fixed on the next photo.

This photo showed the abrupt edge of the wall, not far from the position of the water cup.

Zhang Yean pointed to this gap in the edge.

”At the time, there was no railing at that place, so we inferred that the deceased possibly fell due to poor nighttime lighting.”

”Also, this position was directly above the body.”

”Between this gap and the body, there was a very thin wire.”

”Later, we used the fire department’s crane to investigate, and found a lot of blood and human tissue on that wire.”

”After testing and comparison, that human tissue and blood indeed came from the deceased Liu Jun.”

Jiang An nodded.

”This position is indeed very easy to fall from.”

He lowered his head to look closely at the wire photo, and sure enough, there were some blood stains and fat tissue on it, very much in line with the separation process of the neck during the deceased’s fall.

Then, Jiang An continued to flip through the photos and noticed the tumbler lying on the ground, with its lid still on.

”Did you check the fingerprints on this mug?”

Zhang Yean replied, ”Other than the deceased’s fingerprints, there were no other significant findings.”

In the corner of Jiang An’s eye, he noticed a dent on the edge of the metal mug.

”Does this dent seem recent, and is it related to the death?”

”The dent you’re referring to is thought to have occurred when the mug fell to the ground before the deceased’s fall.”

A dent caused before falling?

Why were the water stains and tea leaves scattered elsewhere?

Jiang An promptly asked again, ”How much alcohol did the deceased, Liu Jun, consume that night?”

”There were eight of them in the dorm, and they drank four bottles of liquor in total.”

”According to a coworker’s recollection, the deceased drank over half a catty and was still walking steadily at the time.”

Zhang Yean continued, ”We examined the surface of the body and found no signs of external force injuries.”

”We initially believed the deceased completed the fall alone.”

Jiang An asked, ”Was an autopsy performed on the body?”

”No!”

”The victim’s family was deeply distraught and quite traditional, unwilling to have the body dissected.”

”Thus, a full autopsy was not conducted at the time.”

”Was there an estimation of the time of death?”

Zhang Yean answered, ”At the time, Mr. Wu estimated the time of death to be around 1 AM based on the cadaveric lividity, rigor mortis, and body temperature.”

”The surveillance at the construction site’s entrance showed they returned from drinking at 12:30 AM.”

”Therefore, the estimated time of death matched the time he entered Building 5.”

”Did anyone else enter the building during the time of the incident?”

Zhang Yean shook her head.

”No! All the surveillance footage was reviewed at the time.”

”From two hours before the deceased entered the building until the body was found the next morning, no one entered.”

Jiang An suddenly had a question in mind.

”Shouldn’t there have been a sound when the body fell from such a height? Didn’t anyone hear it?”

”That question was raised at the time.”

”There was a strong wind that night, and the surrounding construction was ongoing overnight, the machinery was loud, and none of the other workers heard anything.”

”At the time, Mr. Wu conducted a thorough examination and found that the deceased’s body had multiple fractures: besides the decapitation, both lower limbs and ribs were severely fractured.”

”Such fractures couldn’t be caused by human force; only a fall from a height could account for them.”

”Therefore, it supported the theory that the body was not disposed of post-mortem but rather fell from a height.”

”The deceased’s torso had multiple fractures, but the skull remained relatively intact.”

”This was because the head fell onto a pile of sand, which provided good cushioning, preventing fractures.”

Finally, Zhang Yean shook her head.

”I don’t understand why the family doesn’t accept this conclusion.”

Jiang An did not continue to speak, his gaze fixed on the case file.

He slowly flipped through the file from the first page, reading carefully.

He scrutinized every photo, every paragraph, every sentence, and pondered deeply.

After a long pause, Jiang An’s gaze settled on the clothes of the deceased.

The clothes of the deceased had dust on them, yet the area where the body touched the ground was very muddy.

How to explain the source of this dust?

The only possibility was that it came from the construction site.

Zhang Yean noticed Jiang An’s focus on the deceased’s clothing.

She said, ”At the time, we considered the possibility that the deceased did physical labor at the construction site, so it wasn’t surprising for dust to be on his body.”

Jiang An nodded.

A moment later, he said, ”I think there’s something off about this body.”

Zhang Yean asked curiously, ”What’s off?”

”After a careful look, I found that the distribution of dust on the deceased’s body is quite peculiar.”

”What do you mean?”

”The dust isn’t only on the deceased’s clothes but also on the back of his hands.”

”Interestingly, even the face of the deceased had some dust on it.”

Hearing this, Zhang Yean immediately turned her head to closely inspect the deceased’s hands and face.

”Now that you mention it, there really is some dust on the back of Liu Jun’s hands and face.”

Then, Zhang Yean suggested, ”Could it be that Liu Jun fell somewhere while climbing the building?”

Jiang An stared at the back of the deceased’s hands.

”Normally, if we fall to the ground, we instinctively extend our hands to protect ourselves, so the dust would be on the palms.”

”However, the dust is on the back of Liu Jun’s hands.”

Suddenly, Zhang Yean was astonished.

”Could it be that he didn’t protect himself while falling? Was he unconscious?”

Jiang An nodded and then dialed Li Jian’s number.

”Mr. Li, is Liu Jun’s body still preserved?”

Hearing Jiang An’s question, Li Jian had a moment of unease.

”The body hasn’t been processed yet; it’s frozen at the funeral home.”

”Do we need to examine the body again?”

Jiang An responded, ”I think this case isn’t simple; there are still some uncertainties.”
