Chapter 122: Chapter 122: This String of Questions!

Quickly!

A white police cordon surrounded Building 5.

Li Jian, Jiang An, and others placed the crime scene investigation tools neatly on the ground.

Mr. Zhang wore a mournful expression, as if attending a funeral.

He walked over and said, ”Mr. Li, can we reschedule the site investigation?”

”Today is the day our construction site reopens.”

Faced with this heart-wrenching case, coupled with media reports at the forensic autopsy center.

Now.

Captain Li Jian was burning with fury inside, with no outlet for his anger.

He sternly said, ”To us detectives, the truth is paramount.”

”Liu Jun’s fatal fall three months ago is still unresolved.”

”If you repeatedly obstruct our examination, I have grounds to detain you for interfering with justice.”

Then, Captain Li Jian stepped forward and said word by word, ”Furthermore, I don’t rule out the possibility that you are the murderer.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Mr. Zhang broke out in a cold sweat.

He stared wide-eyed at Li Jian.

”Mr. Li, this joke shouldn’t be made.”

”Alright, alright, you go ahead with the investigation, I’ll fully cooperate.”

Having said that, Mr. Zhang hurriedly left.

Seeing him jog away, Zhang Yean chuckled and said, ”That Mr. Zhang, once he heard he’s a suspect, immediately bolted.”

”If it weren’t for the trouble at their site, we wouldn’t be willing to come over.”

”This building almost became an unfinished project.”

Wan grumbled a couple of complaints.

Captain Li Jian turned and said, ”Time is tight, we must race against the clock.”

Then, the four of them with tools in hand, walked into Building 5.

Wan asked, ”Boss, can this elevator be used?”

Li Jian turned and glanced.

”That temporary elevator hasn’t been used for 3 months; do you dare to ride it?”

Wan scratched his head.

”Boss, climbing stairs is good too, it can strengthen the calf muscles.”

Thus, the four of them took the stairs.

After Jiang An stepped onto the stairs, he deliberately stayed at the back.

He lowered his head and focused his gaze on the places where the three ahead had stepped.

Indeed.

On these raw cement stairs, obvious footprints won’t form.

Five minutes later, the four of them reached the 10th floor.

Compared to the others, Wan was already panting.

Li Jian and Zhang Yean’s foreheads had tiny beads of sweat.

Only Jiang An was still breathing evenly, showing no signs of climbing fatigue.

They stood at the entrance of Apartment 1 on the 10th floor.

Zhang Yean raised her hand and pointed.

”We determined the deceased fell from here at the time.”

Following the direction of her finger, everyone saw a gap.

”Has the construction here changed?”

Wan asked.

Zhang Yean looked around, ”Basically, there’s no change.”

Li Jian said, ”The day after the incident, this site temporarily halted due to financing issues.”

”So, from the timing, there shouldn’t have been any construction since the incident.”

Immediately, images of the original case file photos flashed in Jiang An’s mind.

In an instant, his exceptional memory replayed all the previous layouts.

Comparing with the original site photos, Jiang An noticed that apart from the workers’ missing tools, nothing else had changed.

However, the pool of water had long evaporated, disappearing without a trace.

Nonetheless.

Dried tea leaves were still visible at that location.

Fortunately, the ground at this central site had a lot of fine dust, providing the best conditions for footprints.

The indoor lighting was dim, and Jiang An bent down to take out a high-powered flashlight from the toolbox, walking inside.

Li Jian turned to signal Zhang Yean to follow.

”You’re most familiar with the original scene, follow and explain.”

”Yes! Mr. Li!”

Wan was eager to enter too, but was stopped by Li Jian.

”Let’s wait it out.”

”The fewer people entering the central site, the better.”

Wan turned and glanced at Li Jian.

A phrase ”disparate treatment” stuck in his throat.

At this moment.

Jiang An, holding the strong flashlight, carefully examined the traces on the ground.

Occasionally, he bent over, sometimes squatting down.

Zhang Yean followed behind him.

”Whether before or after the incident, many people have entered this scene.”

”Workers were here, along with project managers, and police officers investigating and handling the scene.”

Finally, Zhang Yean said somewhat disappointedly, ”So, the footprint evidence here is of little value.”

Jiang An nodded, saying, ”The frequent entries indeed greatly interfere with and affect footprint observations here.”

”However, we must focus on finding Liu Jun’s own footprints.”

Zhang Yean curiously said, ”Liu Jun was also a worker here.”

”It’s not surprising for his footprints to appear here, is it?”

Jiang An softly said, ”It’s not surprising for his footprints to appear here.”

”However, if there are footprints that don’t match usual work actions, then that’s peculiar.”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Yean repeated, ”Footprints not matching normal work actions.”

Just as she was puzzled, Jiang An stopped and squatted down.

”Did you find something?”

Jiang An nodded.

”Sister, look at the dust here.”

Immediately, Zhang Yean also crouched down.

Following the direction of Jiang An’s flashlight.

”Linear drag marks?”

Jiang An nodded.

”They are very faint.”

”It’s a pity that only a portion is visible, as some of it is covered by cobblestones.”

Curiously, Zhang Yean asked, ”Is there a possibility these short drag marks could be formed by tools from the construction site?”

While speaking, Jiang An extended his index fingers to gesture a tool with two points of support.

Jiang An said, ”What you’re suggesting is indeed possible.”

”However, I recall seeing quite a bit of dust adhered to the deceased’s shoe tips.”

At this moment.

Li Jian, standing at the entrance, seemed to sense Jiang An had discovered something.

He shouted, ”Can we come in?”

”No problem!”

Zhang Yean added, ”Wan, please bring the case file from the box here.”

Wan was momentarily taken aback.

Weren’t they investigating the scene?

Why would they suddenly need the case file?

”Junior, are you sure?”

”I’m sure!”

Soon, Li Jian and Wan hurried over.

Li Jian also crouched down and took a look.

”Is it valuable?”

Jiang An replied, ”Mr. Li, these two marks, I suspect, were formed when the murderer dragged the deceased’s body, causing the shoe tips to touch the ground.”

After hearing this, Li Jian again lowered his head to observe.

In his eyes, the marks were less than 20 cm.

Is it really related to the deceased?

While Li Jian was pondering this, Zhang Yean took the case file handed by Wan.

She immediately flipped to the original scene’s body examination section and found the photo of the deceased’s shoes.

Suddenly, she excitedly exclaimed, ”Jiang An, just as you said, you can see a lot of dust on the shoe tips of the deceased indeed.”

While speaking, Zhang Yean unfolded the photo, allowing everyone to see clearly.

Eyes moved back and forth between the shoe tips and the marks several times.

Li Jian instantly understood.

He raised his head to look at the nearby cliff.

The distance between the two was no more than 8 meters.

Li Jian said, ”If this is the place where the deceased was dragged, does that mean the deceased could have been ambushed here?”

Jiang An nodded and said, ”Captain, my viewpoint aligns with yours.”

”At present, we observe the drag marks on the ground interrupt because there is a patch of cobblestones here.”

”Otherwise, we ought to see continuous drag marks.”

”Therefore, since the starting point of the drag marks is here, it clearly indicates the deceased collapsed right here.”

Next, Jiang An surveyed the surroundings and said, ”If the murderer’s tool was improvised and there’s no bleeding from the deceased’s head, the tool likely won’t have any blood stains either.”

”The murderer likely didn’t take the tool away.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Zhang Yean said, ”Are you suggesting the murder weapon is still at the scene?”

Instantly, Li Jian, Wan, and Zhang Yean all began looking around.

Following that, the four of them stood up and conducted a thorough search.

Ten minutes later.

Zhang Yean excitedly said, ”Come and take a look!”

”Does this rebar look suspicious?”

Upon hearing her call.

Everyone instantly ran over.

Sure enough.

Among a pile of bricks, there was a piece of rebar about 50 cm long.

Jiang An immediately took a pair of gloves from his pocket and put them on.

He crouched down and picked up the rebar.

Wan glanced at it, ”The length is quite handy.”

Curiously, Zhang Yean asked, ”If this was used to hit the head, would there be any hair caught on it?”

Jiang An examined it closely.

He said, ”I don’t see any hair!”

”However, we can send it to the lab to check if the distal end has any skin tissue from the deceased’s head.”

Li Jian nodded.

”The lab just bought a scanning electron microscope this year, we can focus on examining it.”

”The sudden appearance of this rebar among the bricks is indeed suspicious.”

”Earlier, I saw most of the rebars were cut in a fixed area, but this one is particular.”

Zhang Yean blinked her big eyes and said excitedly, ”This definitely indicates a high likelihood that the murderer deliberately threw it here.”

Just after she spoke, Jiang An suddenly said, ”Mr. Li, there seems to be some grease attached to the other end of the rebar.”

”Grease?”

Instantly, the three directed their gaze to the other end.

Zhang Yean pointed a flashlight in the direction of Jiang An’s fingers.

A light layer of grease could be seen attached to it.

Jiang An said, ”This should be the grease left behind after being gripped by someone’s hand.”

”Senior, can you check for fingerprints on this?”

Zhang Yean furrowed her brow slightly and said, ”The surface of that rebar is uneven; it might be difficult to leave fingerprints.”

”But I’ll take a close look.”

Then, Zhang Yean moved the flashlight, starting her observation.

Li Jian looked around, having many questions in his mind.

Was the murderer premeditated?

If it was a premeditated crime, why didn’t they prepare tools in advance?

Without lighting in the corridor at night, did the murderer lie in wait early?

If not lying in wait, did the murderer follow up without the deceased noticing?
