Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1391: Chapter 1391 Anxiety

”Don’t be afraid! An Hao, don’t worry, it doesn’t matter that those two unreliable ones aren’t here; your mom is with you! We’ll absolutely have a safe childbirth,” Zhang Yun kept encouraging An Hao.

With her mother-in-law’s words, she felt much more settled.

...

Military headquarters.

The meeting was still ongoing, and it was the first time Qin Jian felt the ordeal as he repeatedly checked his watch.

He didn’t know how An Hao was doing; the doctor had said it was expected in these two days.

He was worried that he might miss An Hao giving birth.

He wanted to be by An Hao’s side, to keep her from worrying and being frightened.

The meeting had been going on for the whole day.

During the break, Qin Jian hurried to an office to call home. The phone at home rang over and over but no one answered, and he grew anxious.

Zhang Jianguo stepped out of the meeting to get some air and saw Qin Jian standing in the hallway, seemingly lost in thought. So, he approached and patted Qin Jian on the shoulder.

He noticed Qin Jian, who normally didn’t smoke, standing there silently smoking.

”It’s strange. Why are you smoking today?” Zhang Jianguo also pulled out a cigarette, lit it near Qin Jian, took a couple of deep drags, and said, ”What’s on your mind? You’ve seemed distracted all day.”

”My wife is about to give birth. I’m not at home today; it’s making me uneasy,” Qin Jian admitted honestly.

Zhang Jianguo nodded and said, ”I understand how you’re feeling. Calling you in for a meeting today was really a last resort. Today we’re studying the latest weapons developed as well as combat techniques in exercises. Everyone is here, and as a leader of our key training unit, you had to be here.”

”Yes, I know.”

”Just wait a bit longer. It will be over in an hour, and when it’s time for free discussion, you can just leave,” Zhang Jianguo said.

”Alright. Thank you, Commander.”

Qin Jian barely got through the hour, grabbing his books and heading out.

The other group leaders thought the meeting was over and stood up too.

”What? Can’t everyone endure it anymore?” Zhang Jianguo said with a laugh.

”Isn’t the meeting over?” asked the tank group leader, puzzled, pointing at Qin Jian, ”Didn’t Qin Jian already leave?”

”Yes. Commander, you wouldn’t be this biased, would you?”

”Biased? Who said I was biased?” Zhang Jianguo smiled at the group leaders and combat staff and said, ”Qin Jian’s wife is about to give birth, does anyone else’s wife have the same situation? If so, I’ll give you leave right now.”

”Having a baby, ha! When my wife gave birth, I wasn’t even present. It’s only natural for old women to give birth. While I was drinking with my political commissar, she gave birth,” the tank group leader said.

”Ugh. You call your sister-in-law an old woman! You must have been chased around and beaten up plenty?”

”Ha ha ha! Try to hit, but can’t catch me. We’re men and soldiers, it would be shameful to be hit by a woman!”

Listening to the group leaders’ banter, Zhang Jianguo laughed and said, ”These military wives have it tough too. I don’t advocate being too harsh on your own wives. You guys really should learn from Qin Jian.”

”That’s because he has a young, delicate wife. If my wife looked like that, I’d pamper her too.”
