Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1314: Chapter 1314: Can’t Struggle Free, Can’t Escape!

”What good does it bring? Can’t you and your mother just live peacefully without stirring up trouble? Why must you always cause a commotion?” Song Jincai said angrily.

”How is it us causing trouble? She singles me out and makes my life difficult!” Song Yueqin was referring to the incident where she and Yang Erdan had a secret rendezvous down by the river.

”In any case, as long as I am around, you two cannot go looking for trouble! Otherwise, if you anger me, I will leave you to fend for yourselves!” Song Jincai issued his final ultimatum.

If he did not step in to control the mother and daughter, their family’s life would truly become unmanageable, while others were prospering day by day, their lives only became increasingly bleak.

Seeing her father angry, Song Yueqin did not dare to say anything more.

Zhang Juyun also sulked in silence, with no one to share her grievances. It was a real injustice to get beaten for just saying a few words.

After dinner, Song Yueqin sneaked off to find Yang Erdan.

Since the last incident where Song Yueqin’s leg was broken, their relationship not only continued but became even more intense.

Previously, their liaisons were merely for a thrill, but now, the interactions had kindled a mutual sense of sympathy.

Furthermore, after the new year, Yang Erdan had found a decent job.

He worked as a deliveryman for a shoe factory in town, working for half a year and resting for the other half, with pretty decent earnings.

He earned enough to cover his living expenses and, if he wasn’t extravagant, to get married and live modestly.

Everyone in the village knew about his affair with Song Yueqin by the end of the year. And as he was of a suitable age to marry, no family was willing to give their daughter to him.

Consequently, the two of them grew closer.

Song Yueqin originally married Qin Fen just to spite An Hao. If she couldn’t be happy, she wanted to make sure An Hao couldn’t live peacefully, either.

But later she realized her mistake; if An Hao didn’t come back, she would have no chance to even get close to her.

Any initial fantasies she had about Qin Jian vanished completely; they were from different worlds and no amount of effort could forcefully bring them together.

So now, Song Yueqin had given up, and the person she wholeheartedly wanted to marry was Yang Erdan.

Now, if only she could get Qin Fen to divorce her, she could marry Yang Erdan and be happy.

But it seemed impossible.

After all, Qin Fen was still dragging his feet and was firmly against mentioning divorce.

She felt like an animal trapped in a cage, unable to break free or escape.

She had a heavy heart but could not express her distress.

This was truly a case of reaping what she sowed.

When Yang Erdan saw Song Yueqin coming to see him, he dragged her to a secluded field outside the village.

”What’s up? Why are you looking for me now?”

”I’m feeling down. Can’t I come and talk to you?” Song Yueqin sat down on the edge of the field, idly twirling a foxtail grass in her hand.

”What’s the matter?” Yang Erdan sat down beside her and asked, ”Is it because of your mother getting beaten today?”

”You already know about it? That sure spread fast.”

”Not just me, the whole village knows by now, An Hao had her brother beat your mom with a stick, and your mom was so scared she ran home without uttering a peep.”

Yang Erdan relayed the gossip to Song Yueqin, who, not having heard it until then, became so enraged that she was fit to burst: ”Can’t a person live in peace? What do you mean my mother was too scared to make a sound? She was just not stooping to their level.”
