Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1306: Chapter 1306: A Difficult Choice

Seeing this scene, Yan Huan felt an additional pang of heartache.

”Mom! What are you doing? Why have you run all the way to the hospital entrance to wait for people? Cheng Yue is someone who doesn’t lie; he said there was a family issue, so there must be a family issue. You should stop waiting here! When he comes back, can’t I just look for him and take him to see you?” Yan Huan took Feng Yuzhi’s hand, half pleading, half negotiating.

”No, this matter can’t be delayed! You’re not getting any younger, and we don’t have time to waste on him! Huanhuan, you are my only daughter; I can’t let you be wronged! There’s too much uncertainty in this matter. If it can’t be settled now, the future is even less certain.” Feng Yuzhi had lived the first half of her life for her husband, and the second half for her children. For their sake, she was prepared to do anything, regardless of her own dignity.

”I already told you about his family situation...”

Yan Huan hadn’t finished speaking when Feng Yuzhi interrupted her: ”Enough! I came here today to get a clear answer, to see Cheng Yue’s attitude! I won’t make it hard for him!”

Just as she finished speaking, she saw someone approaching from a distance.

”See, I wasn’t waiting in vain!” Feng Yuzhi said, seeing Cheng Yue coming back, and hurriedly went to meet him.

”Auntie! Yan Huan!” Cheng Yue, carrying a luggage bag and not yet at the hospital entrance, was stopped, ”Are you waiting for me? Is there something wrong?”

”Yes! I just want to ask you, was it you who asked Yan Huan to wait for you for two years?” asked Feng Yuzhi with a stern face.

”Yes.” Cheng Yue realized the gravity of the situation and understood most of it already.

It seemed that today, this issue couldn’t be avoided, and an answer was necessary.

Seeing Cheng Yue speak so lightly, Feng Yuzhi was furious. She looked up at him and coldly asked, ”I’m asking you, can you guarantee you’ll definitely marry Yan Huan after two more years?”

Yan Huan looked at Cheng Yue, her palms sweating involuntarily.

Cheng Yue noticed Yan Huan’s nervousness, hesitated for a moment, but still answered truthfully, ”I’m sorry! I can’t!”

”Can’t? Ha? You make it sound so easy!” Feng Yuzhi was ablaze with anger, ”In two years, you’ll just be in your mid-twenties! And what about Yan Huan? Have you thought about her feelings? How old is she? In two more years, she’ll truly be an old maid! Are you gambling with her youth?”

”Auntie... when I made that decision, I was truly serious about Yan Huan!” Cheng Yue said, ”She knows the situation with my family...”

”Don’t talk to me about your family matters! I don’t want to hear it! I’m just asking whether you can resolve this issue or not. If you can’t, I need to speak directly to your parents!” Feng Yuzhi said angrily.

”I’m very sorry!” Cheng Yue furrowed his brows, speaking in a low voice, ”I’m afraid you won’t be able to speak directly to my parents. My mother fainted after hearing about this! The doctor said she has high blood pressure and should avoid getting upset. I’ve also asked my parents what they think. I fear that they won’t agree to let me stay in Nancheng!”

”What do you mean? You don’t love Huanhuan anymore?” Feng Yuzhi grabbed his collar and demanded, ”You’re simply playing with Huanhuan’s feelings! You never planned to take responsibility!”

”No, that’s not it! Auntie, that’s not what I mean.” Cheng Yue held his head in frustration, ”I’m caught between a rock and a hard place! On one side are my parents, on the other is my lover! Auntie, tell me, if you were me, what would you choose?”
