Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1308: Chapter 1308: Disaster Strikes

Summer thunderstorms in Nancheng City came as suddenly as they spoke, with dark clouds swirling with fierce wind that ravaged the entire city.

It didn’t stop all night long!

As soon as day broke, the warriors in the military area got up early to clear the accumulated water.

The swooshing sound of the brooms sweeping water woke An Hao from her sleep.

She opened her eyes to see the still gloomy sky outside, shifted her body, and then settled into a comfortable position, curling up in Qin Jian’s arms to sleep again.

Qin Jian glanced at the clock on the bedside, realized it was getting late, and gently withdrew his arm from under An Hao’s neck.

Just as he was preparing to get out of bed, a urgent ring of the telephone sounded.

He hurriedly reached out, took the phone, and placed it to his ear, ”Hello...”

The voice of An Ping immediately came from the other end, both urgent and agitated, ”Brother-in-law, it’s me, An Ping!”

Hearing his brother-in-law’s voice, Qin Jian’s heart sank. He quickly turned over and sat up, ”What’s wrong? Take it easy, don’t panic!”

”Last night’s storm destroyed all the vegetables in the field! We still haven’t fulfilled our supply contract due these days. If we can’t deliver the vegetables, we’ll have to pay a large amount in damages,” An Ping quickly explained the situation.

”How could the rain destroy the vegetables?” Qin Jian wondered.

”The storm last night brought hail here! The hailstones were like small rocks.”

”How much was destroyed?”

”Everything!”

As they were talking, An Hao opened her eyes and sat up too, ”What’s wrong? What got destroyed?”

”The vegetables at home,” Qin Jian said.

An Hao, upon hearing this, quickly snatched the phone, ”An Ping, what exactly happened?”

An Ping briefly repeated the situation to An Hao.

”How much is the estimated total loss?” An Hao asked.

”I don’t know. The estimate so far is already nearly twenty thousand, not including the penalty fees! All the vegetables in over ten acres were destroyed. Dad was so anxious that he fainted on the spot.” An Ping knew he shouldn’t be telling An Hao this.

But with the loss and penalty fees lying there, it was no small amount.

As for how to handle this situation, he really needed to hear An Hao’s opinion.

Upon hearing this, An Hao’s head buzzed, truly a case of misfortunes never coming singly.

Recently, the An Family’s clients had been taken away, which already dealt a significant blow to the family.

Fortunately, retailing had helped them slowly recoup some losses.

Now that the storm had smashed all the vegetables, leaving nothing for even a recovery, what was to be done?

”Sis, sis? Are you okay?” An Ping hurriedly called out when he heard no response from the other end of the phone.

”I’m fine. Don’t worry about this issue, both you and Dad. I’ll come back, and we’ll figure something out together,” An Hao said before hanging up the phone.

”Are you okay?” Qin Jian, seeing An Hao’s pale face, asked with concern.

”I’m fine,” An Hao waved her hand, signaling him not to worry.

She had seen plenty of storms over the years and could handle this one steadily.

At worst, the An Family’s situation could revert to zero overnight, which was still far better than the rough times she and An Ping had undergone in the past, homeless and pursued, fending for their lives.

”Qin Jian, I think I need to go back,” An Hao said as she looked at Qin Jian, ”My dad has fallen ill this time! Now that I know, I can’t just stand by and do nothing.”
