Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1694 - 1695: The Third Uncle Who Impressed Cheng Su

The best way to stop yourself from constantly thinking about someone is to keep yourself busy and fulfilled.

That’s exactly what Cheng Su did. Once she learned that Qi Taiguo had safely reported to the Zhucheng unit, she felt at ease and got busy with her own affairs.

Now it was the last year of the 1980s. Guangcheng was developing, but the sense of the era hadn’t faded just yet. Many shops actually had quite outdated renovations.

Cheng Su had checked out other seafood shops for reference. Their renovations were actually quite average. Expensive supplements like ginseng, shark fin, and bird’s nest were kept in cabinets, while many seafood items were packed in large bags, left open on the floor for people to choose from.

She didn’t plan to put things directly on the floor. After all, the ground was damp and there was earth energy. At least put up a couple of racks or something to place wooden boards on, right?

As for the renovation style, something simple and unpretentious would do. It didn’t need to be too luxurious.

”...This side needs to be partitioned for a storeroom; this space must be kept dry, and the materials should be waterproof and moisture-proof,” Cheng Su said as she pointed to a corner of the shop to Third Uncle Cheng.

Third Uncle Cheng looked at the floor plan drawn by Cheng Su in his hand, compared it, and then took out a ballpoint pen from his pocket, bit off the cap, and started jotting things down on the paper.

”I plan to put cabinets on both sides, and spotlights at the end; here in the middle too, we’ll use big lights,” Cheng Su pointed out again.

Third Uncle Cheng took notes while also advising, ”According to feng shui, I think the cash register should be set on this side as well. Facing the customers, it’ll bring in plenty of them...”

The uncle and niece walked along the shop discussing. In no time, the once tidy floor plan became full of scribbles.

The entire renovation plan was initially settled. By noon, Cheng Su found a tea restaurant, and the uncle and niece ordered rice dishes and milk tea, continuing their talk about the shop’s renovation.

”This drawing doesn’t look good anymore. Later, I’ll sketch a new one referencing this, writing down these points so it looks much simpler,” said Third Uncle Cheng.

Cheng Su asked, ”Third Uncle, you’re going to draw it yourself?”

”Yeah!” Third Uncle Cheng chuckled bashfully, ”I might not draw it well, though.”

”Third Uncle, you’re just being modest. I heard from Xiaozhi that you’re now reading books on renovations and feng shui layouts, learning about home design too?” Cheng Su laughed.

Third Uncle Cheng replied, ”It’s because there’s no other choice. You have to specialize in the field of business you’re doing. When it comes to renovations, knowing how to do the work only requires careful attention and observation. The challenging part is giving advice to clients. If you don’t understand or know how to handle things, you can’t even create a simple design plan, let alone convince others. So, I have to learn it.” He paused and then added somewhat embarrassedly, ”To be honest, I’ve been thinking of enrolling in a school to learn design and similar courses, but it seems there aren’t any available.”

Cheng Su was surprised and said, ”Third Uncle, you’ve really made me see you in a new light today!”

Everyone could try doing business, but not everyone is suitable for it. What’s crucial is having a flexible mind. That Third Uncle Cheng thought of studying is already impressive, and it’s no wonder his business is doing well now.

Just from the pointers exchanged in the shop, Cheng Su knew her Third Uncle was no longer just a renovation worker who would bury his head in hard work like when he first joined the renovation team.

”Learning is necessary, as you said, being able to do and design it yourself is what convinces customers. But as for these training classes, they’ll indeed take some time to find,” Cheng Su said with a gentle smile.
